Got my delanclip kit today (jan2020). Came with everything including the monitor brack for the camera. Kit is high quality. Packing of the units alone is impressive and if they take that much care in packaging then you can imagine what the actual product is like. Ingame in 15 min. No tweaking. No messing around with curves. Bending the metal clip to make it vertical again took the longest time out of the setup. I am really, really happy with the delanclip. I did not want to spend as much as trackir costs but i still made the right choice and it works very well. you will not be disappointed with the delanclip. I give this a thumbs up. I am on every single delanclip review stating my opinion now cos i am that happy with it.

Thanks mate. I'm sold. Was about to check out the TrackIR until the bill displayed! Eye popping just for a tracker. I think the Delan is for me. Appreciate the in depth review.

about 7 years ago I started developing a concept to avoid what I disliked most about trackir: the monitor stayed in place while looking around, so you'd have to squint at the screen to see it. I developed a solution that became focused on VR, but that could be used as a trackir/delanclip/etc alternative: Trinus VR what Trinus VR does is connect an Android phone to the PC, stream the video game on the phone's screen and convert the phone's orientation data into mouse (or freetrack) data. while limited to 2dof (or 3dof with FT), it is a cheap option to get headtracking. you don't need to use the video/VR part, but it can be handy too to track those bandits on your 6

I never write anything off. Hmm, it was a while back and i think it was mostly to do with comfort, I seem to recall it actually did work, just not as convenient as eye-tracking or Bespoke lightweight head-tracking options. I mean no offence.

@@SimUKReviews none taken :) the extra weight brings great value when used in VR, but I do understand it is unnecessary when playing 'flat' mode. what I wonder is how much longer this kind of tech will be around, considering how much of an improvement VR is. any thoughts as to why people still use ir-tracking vs VR headset? I'd assume price to be a factor, but at $150, TrackIR is certainly not cheap and has way worse tracking (responsiveness, range, precision) vs VR

Hi there. Good video but that's not what the comment is for. I applaude that you took the time to recognise another YTer. I was making videos, albeit in a very different genre i.e. politics. Despite trying to put a lot of effort into my videos it seems if you just can't 'work the algorithm', you are going to find it hard to get on....that's understating the situation 🤯 So, Sir, you are a great bloke for doing what you did. This is great, I'm looking for a way to get into DCS without having to strap on my Oculus every time, and the COVID situation has me looking at cheaper alternatives for the TrackIR5, this might be it!

I'm also getting started on DCS and quickly realising that a head tracker /VR with HOTAS is a must have. I can't afford the crazy money for the trackir so this makes the game accessible for those of us on a tight budget.

@@Catinthehackmatrix I've been using it for some time now. It does a pretty decent job but I get issues with slight dead zones at times which can get annoying. Still, its so much better than nothing and would recommend for this price.

Re making the Declan wireless. Just plug your USB cable into a USB external battery mounted on your wireless headset. I did this successfully with my Trackir 5 Pro clip when i was running a wireless headset

Great idea, simple solution! I'm just starting trying to get my head around this having recently got into DCS, but I assume all the head set needs is a small amount of power to the IRLEDs?

How can one device have more latency than another? The wired version just uses wires for power, there is no communication happening. Only the camera has latency.

I would say the diodes are brighter and or less constant.

Have the Clip now for 2 years+, and it works flawlessly. One complaint i have though: The setup of the clip on the headset is fiddly and annoying, with extra cables running along the headset cable. i would recommend to instead use a trackhat (hat with 3 IR LEDs) instead of the clip now. But if you dont mind the cable, then the clip is ideal. Improves the flying experience (in Arma 3) by 500%.

You could always buy a USB power cell and connect the clip to that....put it in your pocket perhaps?

It looks like the DelanClip has large IR LED's to the UTC II. UTC looks like it uses 3mm LED's vs DelanClip that looks like it uses 5mm LED's. Larger LED's means larger clearer IR signature for the camera to pickup.

Nope plugin and go (software installation required). Tweaking g to your exact liking...that takes time.

Hi Mike my Thanks for very helpful video I am considering the possibility of using a head-tracker I have narrowed the choice down to Edtracker, Delanclip, and Trackhat,mainly for use on ETS2. The performance of the three seems very similar. My question as a non techie is which of the three did you find the easiest to set up and use? Many thanks.

Good review. After seeing your review I ordered Delanclip with the camera, but it seems that it can use the TrackIR device? I have TrackIR 5.4. I also have Tobii Eye Tracker 4C, a waste of 159 euros. The thing stopped working after the latest Windows 10 update, and it seems nobody is going to solve the issue.

Yes, all of the led based headtracking alternatives should be compatible with trackir. Hope you're up and running straight away.

Good review except the part where you said the fuse was to protect the pc from power surges, but it was on the delay clip not the pc at all

Hi mate, sure. Yes I am using opentrack, in fact I think I use Trackhats latest version as I installed something else and had conflicts.

Just saw your review of Edtracker. Until a couple of months ago i thought head tracking was limied to Trackir. Now there is Edtracker, Delanclip, Trackir, UTC II, Tobii Eye Tracker… and maybe some i don´t know of. Which of all these gave you the most satisfaction when using in games, not taking into account easy of setup, robustness, wireless or price?

Honestly they all do do great job. DelanClip seems the most responsive but is wired. UTC II has been my goto for ages but has slightly more latency than the DelanClip. Trackhat is a workhorse...stays charged for ever, works well everytime just feels feels a little less consistent than the UTC II. we are talking milliseconds difference btw. Then there is the EDTRACKER which will work in almost every game, even when head tracking is not included in the game. The UTC II has been my goto for fora long while but honestly I'd be happy with any one of them.

From what I understand, any webcam with the IR filter removed. You'll need to Google it but possibly a cheap solution if you already have an old cheap one.

Excuse me, what exactly is faster? Must be the biggest delay is introduced by the camera... LEDs are just LEDs and the software should be fast in any case.

Based on numerous headtracking devices, I think it is position and quality.of led which makes the response time more accurate.

@@SimUKReviews well... based on physics, LED's can have different maximum emitting angles or light patterns, which can result in some issues at critical movement angles, but the speed of light is the same :D so no delay here - the camera either sees the LED or it doesn't.

Are you trying to put your self to sleep with the background :P. Nice dreamy scape there :). Ok you said you use the same software but one is wireless while the other is wired. It looks like your ITC device has a 45 degree imputs on the device ie you turn your head a little and nothing happens until you hit that sweet spot and it turn again, NOW If thats not the case then its to do with its inputs, so you turn your head a little and it reactgs only to the 25 or 45 degree markers that its got. While the DelanCiip seems like its got a small lag time but better on screen performance and doesn't have that lag that your getting with your wireless device. ok.. Another thing heres the big Q) HOW MUCH did you have to turn your head for it to flow from say looking straight ahead to looking behind you on ETS2 ?. What does the camera do ? help track the device ?... The software you use are you going to demo it at some stage ?... Stop putting your self down for using the keyboard im 100% dedicated to it, why do you feel guilty every time you use it ? Im going to bed. Peace.

I'm not feeling guilty Richard....lazy perhaps; I just couldn't be bothered to get my wheel out :-) As for your suggestions; The UTC II has excellent LED range again I think it's around 80 degrees; but certainly that must be the issue, or a combination of things like led brightness and angle, perhaps the extra enclosing somehow blocks it? It could be software related, as I say tweaking would make a difference, but the DelanClip felt noticeably more responsive. Head turn is 100% adjustable to look behind, lets just say I have mine setup so I can still see the screen when looking out of the rear...but 100% adjustable. I'm not intending on demoing the software, there are many good tutorials out there already and the whole thing is bespoke to the user. Maybe if I get time. Cheers!

I have delan clip, but got many troubles configuring it properly, and after hours trying, it is on a shelf taking dust. Nothing of SW configuration id in the review. Any advice would be nice.

SW configuration? It's early I can't figure that out. What's the issue your experiencing? I have previously recommended placing the camera above and to one side??

@@SimUKReviews well, the delan clip needs various SW to be downloaded and installed, that is kind of easy, but could be tricky as documentation is a bit sparse. Additionally, the three LED have a very limited movement window before they become garbled and the head tracking go bust. So while I found Delan clip cheap and effective (once working...), the setup part is not trivial, or not as expected. I think this part should be considered in the review of this kins of equipment. No idea of the amount of effort to setup Track IR.

@@cnmg7121 did you actually used the gadget? Two or three years since I used that piece of metal, so great effort to rember. You need the ps3 cam driver (3$?), some free SW for head tracking and I m not sure if something else. Aside conflict in selecting my logolitech C920 or PS3 Cam on the head tracking software, the LED on the clip are really closed to each other and have a small tolerance in head movement before they overlap and become a big light blob losing all tracking. Additionally the SW is very sensitive to IR threshold and even a bright light can hamper the tracking capabilities. My experience has been negative. Now, in your review, nothing of this has been hinted. It seems that the delan clip is a plug and play device, while is not. It can work, but is not hassle free. I don t know how to explain it more clearer.

Yes I would say more responsive than Trackhat. Trackhat is a great device and I still highly recommend it , plus Trackhat is wireless.

Sim UK I'm interested in the strap though instead of wearing my headset all the time... I've just ordered a go pro head strap to see if I can modify it for the trackhat... If not its only £3 from fleabay so no great loss
