I'm a photography teacher and once you learn, you can take good photos with just about anything sometimes it's actually harder with more megapixels because it actually highlights your faults so the new cameras well.... fantastic they are sometimes more challenging

My only argument against the R50 is the lack of lens selection. For anything wider than the 18-45mm kit lens you'll be adapting older EF or EF-S lenses. Which is perfectly viable but less than ideal. Just means you're shopping for used or discontinued glass to cover this. My own budget choice would be the Panasonic G9 here. Pro level build quality and controls, compact, vast and affordable lens selection, and the tripod hi-res mode can help it punch higher than the 20MP M43 sensor would suggest. I don't own this camera, but have come to realize what a capable little powerhouse it still is.

I am all for the GFX!! I got the GFX 50Sii last year and i have got all the glass i need this year. The GFX 50sii is an awesome camera for landscapes and at an fantastic price point. I will get the GFX 100s in time just because... :) The glass alone is worth the expense!!

Well, the best landscape gear is always the camera, that's with you. 🙂 I've done landscapes with 35mm film, with 6 MP APS-C/DX gear, up to 24 MP 35mm DSLM...

I am now 58 years old. I caught the photo bug at a relatively young age...for my 13th birthday, I was gifted my first SLR, a new Canon AE-1. In my late 20s, I purchased a Mamiya RZ 67 Pro II. A couple years later I purchased a Toyo 4x5" view camera. I have owned close to a dozen different brands and format digital cameras over the last twenty years yet not one has come close to producing the image quality I get from my medium and large format film cameras. I do use digital today but this is primarily due to speed and convenience when producing images for paying clients. When shooting personal projects, I still rely on film.

I like your choices! I also find the Fuji xh2 to be a great option in the mid priced range. 40mp sensor, high resolution mode, film sims including Velvia which is popular for landscapes, good lightweight lens options, awesome IBIS for possibly no tripod, and rugged,

@@32BitLink none that I know of. You are comparing a top tier 40mp APSC to a mid to bottom end FF. there are some good ones like the Sony a7iv with close to the resolution but quality glass is more expensive and heavier. The IBIS isn’t as good, doesn’t have Velvia, and it’s $500 more for just the body. For $1999 the performance is hard to beat.

I have a Z7. I wish I could show you my prime example of it's dynamic range. I was shooting a covered bridge winter scene into the morning sun. I had to under expose, so I could keep the sky detail. When I got back to the office to edit, the photo looked unusable, way to dark. With a little editing, I got detail and color I could not believe. I now can take photos in bad light conditions that are spectacular landscapes. You don't need a Z7 2. Just buy a used Z7 for $1500. If you saw these photos, you would never claim better dynamic range was possible.

For the past year or so the wife has been using a Nikon Z50 with the plastic kit zoom lens. I have been happily surprised at the quality of image files she obtains with this lightweight kit. She shoots 100% in "P" mode. Cost was about $1K US.

Thanks for the video. I do shoot Nikon but I don’t have a z7II for landscapes. When I take landscape photographs I use my Z9 which has sort of the same sensor as the Z7II. Landscape photography is an alternate option for me. It’s not my primary interest, but that doesn’t mean I am not interested.

I have a super limited budget and I knew that I could only afford a camera upgrade vs getting a new computer (using a MacBook Pro from 2016). I found a Panasonic G9 for just over 1000 Canadian dollars, great deal from a photo store in Sweden. I had some Panasonic glass that worked on the G9. The photo files from the G9 are not super big, so my 2016 Apple computer could still process the files. I found some decent cheap lenses, b Most of them used. Micro 4/3 . The G9 works as great landscape camera!

right now for a affordable camera. I would actually look at a Nikon D810 or a Nikon D850. Both of them are relatively affordable and still one of the best landscape cameras. Are those two cameras, massive amounts of megapixels and dynamic range given that most landscape photography is done with the tripod. I would recommend these two cameras which I'm surprised you didn't include

Not everyone brings in six figures. I started with a Rebel T7. I just bought my first good lens a Canon 300mm f/4 L USM. My next camera will be a Sony A7ii and an adapter for my EF lenses. Then I’ll need to spend 2-3 thousand on a Sony lens. Then my next upgrade will be a nicer Sony camera.

All three out the window. Why no links to the products. For the beginner. As I understand t, a great number of beginners don't go far, so lets suggest something that they feel comfortable and isn't too hard to learn to use. Bonus of you can use the kit lens on a pro version of the camera, and pro lenses on this. This, perhaps? Panasonic Lumix G100 with 12-32mm f3.5-5.6 Sale price$799.00 Even the G90 is less than $1,000. From there I would work up the chain. I would not recommend a camera that isn't supported by professional cameras and lenses at the high end, lenses that are designed for that camera. So, Canon Nikon and probably Sony are out of it. All three have lenses that can be used, but they are designed for bigger cameras. Dynamic range isn't as important as you seem to imagine, and enthusiasts shouldn't find blending multiple exposures a great challenge. When photographers come back for an upgrade, enquire about what specific problems they have. Often, I think their concerns can be addressed with one of the regular workshops you (should) run. If the workshop doesn't keep them happy, offer them an upgrade at a discount, maybe half the price of the workshop. Or a non-expiring gift voucher for the next workshop. I'd not encourage clients to change brands.
