PLEASE READ BEFORE COMMENTING The fatal flaw for me isn't just that it has no RGB or ARGB. The fatal flaw is that there is a header on the board that looks EXACTLY like a 3 pin 5V addressable RGB header. This is actually only a 3v serial port (UART) and if you put 5v from a controller into it, bad things could happen. This is a pretty daft thing to overlook in my opinion, but i am interested to hear your thoughts. On the Discord we get a constant stream of system builders that have plugged connectors into the wrong ports, and i think this will also be one of those boards that it will definitely happen. And if it doesn't kill the board, the disappointment of informing the user that it has zero rgb support is going to be a real hard pill to swallow. I wasn't able to fit an RGB connector over the square pins of the UART header of my ASRock board. That said, people in the Discord have a talent for making things fit that aren't meant to.
So did you try to do it like you said you would? Bard says you can control ARGB through UART. The fact that it's 3v instead of 5v makes me think it will just make the leds glow less bright. I have just bought the ASRock B650M H/M.2 Do you think this one is the same in that regard? Most that could happen is the fans breaking
I don't see how this is an issue at all. If you're just plugging pins into pins without looking at the labels or anything then you're committed to playing Russian Roulette. If you do try to check the labels, you'll notice it doesn't say RGB.
You were right, it's official! "Regarding your inquiry, the UART1 header is for internal debug use, and it's not compatible with ARGB connector. Please do NOT connect ARGB connector to UART1 header to avoid any damage."
So nice to see a complete review on this board. I had no idea about the RGB and am glad it is addressed. I bought a BeQuiet! 500DX case which has its own RGB in it, but is minimal. One thing to note is that the RAM isn't recognized and you need this to change manual in the BIOS. I had bought Kingston Beast 2x16 5600 mhz and it read only 4800 mhz. AMD 5 7600 chip and Liquid cooler II AIO Asus 3060 Gpu Very happy with the set up and temp.
Mine arrived yesterday, just waiting the CPU and RAM arrive to see how well it will perform with the Ryzen 5 7600. Even when won't use RGB in my initial build, I'm the kind that surely would plug a RGB header on that UART port, great video!
I have this mobo with Ryzen 7600 and G.Skill Flare 6000mhz CL30 - works flawlessly. Ran into some issues with enabling EXPO but after fiddling with various settings i finally managed to make it work.
@@freezak3864 Hey what did you encounter? I'm planning building similiar parts with 7600x, this motherboard and Lexar Ares 6000Mhz in the coming weeks. How's the setup playing so far?? Grtz
@@Dailyrider94 It was just a bug where the EXPO profile setting to make the 6000mhz cl30 work didn't work and my task manager kept on showing only 4800mhz or so. I'm sure it's fixed with the newest bios update, make sure your ram is listed on ASRock's website. Other than that this combo, ryzen 7600 + 6000mhz cl30 + rtx 4070 is the best midrange combo you can buy on sale, at least in europe. It's perfectly adequate for 1440p 165hz, every esports game runs at constant 165fps, and every AA game on ultra settings with at least 60fps with dlss and frame gen, if necessary. You can't go wrong with Ryzen 7600, it's the best CPU for the money, with performance being on par with a much more expensive i5-13600k/14600k.
i have personally used this board with a 7600x. its fantastic fastest boot times for am5 as i have tried many other motherboards. love the integrated io shield
One of the few AM5 boards I will give God tier status. Price/performance, nothing beats it. 2.5 GB Lan, only two memory slots (big plus), decent VRM's and the top PCI-E slot is in the right place for a mATX build. Nice review, tyvm:) Oh, the lack of RGB headers really does not concern me: if they had to cut costs, that is not a bad place to do it.
Can't seem to find the link to the m.2-wifi-card you've used. I'm about to build a pc with this board and have been searching for a cheap m.2-wifi-card
@@mikesunboxing Thanks - sadly that's unavailable but now I know the type so I'll manage to find a reseller. If you'd allow me one more question - I've bought a case with 2 RGB-fans even though I did realise that the MB did not have RGB-headers. Which kind of 3rd party thing would I need to buy to light the fans up? I'm eagerly anticipating your other videos on the motherboard!
This board has zero coil whine. The fan control also works great. In short, this MB works great. I rather see more stuff like this from Asrock. Try to keep it simple and performing like this. Both Gigabyte and Asus is having whine issues this time around, which leaves us with only Asrock and MSI for this gen.
most user don't even read the manual or the writing on the motherboard, they just see what fits where, our discord it littered with tales of this happening. This is why i am concerned about it. sending 5v down a 3v header might not be enough to cause a fire, but it could damage more sensitive components on the 3.3v rail
Is it me or are the "50" boards getting lower specs? Nice to see "C" port on mb, odd no rgb, yet cud run high end cpu and m.2 gen5. Entry price i get but seems we get upgrades at expense of expected min stds. Thanks for reviewing Mike & Kath, hope the replacement Asus is higher spec. 👍🐈
the complexity of the new modern chipsets and VRM solutions is pushing prices higher and higher. I can remember getting a AX370 board for £30 only a few years ago what is going on, and when will we see tangible improvements revenant to the increases in pricing?
Quick question please, What M.2 port should I use for my main system for the M.2 NVMe Internal SSD port? should I use the 1 Hyper M.2 (PCIe Gen4x4) or 1 Blazing M.2 (PCIe Gen5x4) or does it matter? This is what I have Crucial P5 Plus 2TB M.2 NVMe Internal SSD.
@@mikesunboxing Thanks for answering! i think so.. it has wifi 6e, bluetooth 5.2 and XMP/EXPO compatibility, talking about that.. can i use XMP on this with amd cpu? XMP ram are cheaper for some reason..
@@Raikas XMP ram is for Intel really , but might work on AMD, it is a risk, but it might work. Best option is to check the motherboard QVL listings and look for the RAM you are considering and see if it is listed and tested as working on the motherboard at the speeds on the box
Still a nice board and up to date (ok without RGB). back in the day. 10 to 20 years ago. a PCI card upgrade was able to keep up with the new USB etc. did nobody make a RGB Pci card at all ??? there most be a ton of money in that. 😲
DUMB question, I already bought this motherboard, it arrives this week, it is my first build, I also bought 6 thermalright ARGB fans and a cooler for the cpu also thermalright with ARGB, now watching this video I find out that it does not bring the ARGB connector, this means that none of my FAN will turn on the lights? or if they will turn on but there will be no way to change the colors? there is no option to control the colors?
@@mikesunboxing Thank you! This will probably seem silly of me, but I appreciate a motherboard with 2 DIMM slots instead of 4 because I've heard/read that using 2 is more stable than using 4. Also, motherboards with 2 slots seem to be less expensive than motherboards with 4 slots. Ideally, an AsRock MATX motherboard would have 2 DIMM slots, AM5, and Gen 5... with included Wi-Fi. 😌
Need fast answer Got thos board and still waiting for cpu. Just wanted to check some fans but i cant turn on the board without cpu. Did I get defective board or you cant turn on AM5 board without the CPU. Can someone confirm?
funny story, i bought this motherboard without knowing that it doesnt have argb/rgb header, and after i realize, i just get along with it and build all black pc, but i dont regret it, in fact im now joining the non rgb side 💀
I ended up choosing the MSI PRO B650M-A. really wanted the ASRock, but at trigger time it was sold out. So I've around a bit MSI is a good brand, So I'm excited. this will be my 1st MSI product.
is it still somehow possible to correct it and install rgb in a different way, if not, maybe you recommend anothermotherboard that still has an rgb header
I love how some people are really emotional about RGB in the comments 😂tbh RGB is an ok feature not the biggest fan of it but its always a nice to have.
@@ajjames1960 If you sacrifice just 5-10% of performance with these 7000 series processors you literally cut power and temps in half, its insane how far amd pushed it with the clocks and voltages this time around.
This is the cheapest mobo in my country. No RBG is okay for me. Just waiting for the 8700g next month so I can finally go AM5. The Pro RS looks good too but sadly not available in my country. zzzz
@@mikesunboxing can u please do just a test, open network section in task manager under downloading and check if spikes are present or not. I mean share the screenshot or video. Thanks
@@mikesunboxing indeed that's what I thought... I mean at least give us just 1 and we can use either a splitter or a hub.. I mean I understand if they do this on their a620 line up but on b650 really asrock?
Before watching the video, all i hear is negative reviews for asrock motherboards. Just in general. I'll save a few bucks more for a more trusted btand
I think it depends with Asrock. Sometimes they mess up, the next gen they make pretty nice boards. The only established brands I wanna avoid are Gigabyte (shitty support, risky quality) and Asus (just cause of what they did :) )
@@Greenalex89 My current board is that nice looks white NZXT board, am4. Apparently it's built by ASRock and it's good, exept for the WiFi antenna. So I'm not sure, any thoughts on a good brand? And I've also heard about Asus and agree
Never buy Asrock they have audio problem they use Nahimic Audio software which can't be set realtek audio chip doesn't support original realtek control panel from bios gives error. Forces Nahimic to be used.. And now my board trip back to the seller.! SORRY ASROCK
I have this motherboard, i use the Hyper M.2, but i want to buy another nvme storage, i know the blazing slot is for pci 5x4, but if i buy one 4x4 same as the one i have for the Hyper m2, will it have any problem? Im sorry im not that good at english
Okay so, wait This might sound like a dumb question, but I am a certified dumbass when it comes to computer parts What exactly is the downside of a lack of RGB headers? Does it mean the RGB just won't turn on? Does it mean I can't control the RGB? I'm just very confused.
Yes it has no ability to control any additional argb or RGB devices. But more concern is from the port on the board that looks like an argb header and could be used to connect argb devices but could burn out the port or the devices
@mikesunboxing Okay, so, assuming I have a moment of lucidity from my caveman brain and don't plug into the port that looks like an ARGB header, the main downside is that there is no control of the RGB? I'm not sure I understand. As in, even if I installed software to change the color of the RGB, the software just wouldn't change the color of the RGB?
