I don’t think Kirk knows how much that song changed how people saw gospel music. Kirk changed the game and that song is still being sung at church almost 20 something years later. Forever a hit!
I got to meet Kirk Franklin and Donnie McClurkin 2 years before that in 2012 at the Dove Awards in Atlanta. I grew up in a straight lace white Methodist church and I used to sneak and listen to 97.5 in Atlanta during the night in my room, they'd play Kirk, Donnie, Dorothy Norwood, Andrae Crouch, CeCe Winans, Yolanda, The Clark Sisters, Donald Lawrence and The Tri City Singers, alllll of them. I grew up now raising my kids on this. My daughter LOVES Hezekiah Walker.
Never liked the song, or thought it was good. Some churches sing songs over and over because the original group, etc. was/is popular and they (the church) want to seem hip and trendy by performing it. I do appreciated that others sing songs repeatedly, because they like the song.
YESSUH I remember singin them in third grade and not knowin these songs was Kirk until yeeeeears later 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Kirk been in these streets relevant for too long
People can say what they want about Kirk Franklin But he write AWESOME Songs, Melodies From Heaven,Take me to the King, Smile ,Something about the name Jesus & the list GO on!!!!!!!

Coming from Ft Worth....Kirk and Cornell Murrell used to conduct the MLK Celebration Choir. Rehearsals were spirit filled and performance night we glorified the Lord in the highest praise. I will always remember the act time I heard Tamela Mann lead a song smh
At 4 years old, I'm 26 soon to be 27, and at 4 years old I fell in love with Kirk Franklin's music ministry. he is amazing! Melodies From Heaven was the first song l heard.
Love this!! Kirk is just an awesome director.... saw my old high school chorus teacher Mr. Earl Bynum in the audience. His choir was the first nominee. Wow... It's such an honor to even be recognized. I'm glad to see him doing so well.
Every time I’m going through hard times in my life I just watch this it’s like it gives me chills and just hopeful vibes that everything is going to be ok ❤️❤️
