This video explains a good basic set of CNC router bits beginners need to start with for a CNC router. This includes down bits, endmills, carving bits. You will also learn where to get everything you need. All links for the CNC router bits are below. Below is a link to a complete starter set of cnc router bits that are set up for the beginner. It also includes free files.
A good starter set of CNC router bits should be made of carbide steel. Cheap 'practice' bits are okay for just that. Consider them throw-away bits. they do not last long at all.
BEGINNER CNC *MUST HAVE* BITS AND TOOLS
ROUTER BITS FOR CNC ROUTERS
→ 8-pc carbide CNC router bit set (w/ free vector files) bit.ly/3d1iQnF
→ 1” Surfacing bit required for surfacing your spoil board: bit.ly/2QEYLKz
OTHER THINGS YOU'LL NEED
→ Calipers (NUST HAVE). For the price, it is a very good set: amzn.to/338MAt3
→ Hearing protection (earplugs don't work): amzn.to/2Hs1RgW
CHEAP STARTER BITS FOR PRACTICE
→ 1-1/8" facing bit: amzn.to/2HmV7kg
→ Well rounded set w/ down bits: amzn.to/2UNQcvT
→ 90-degree V-bit & ball nose set: amzn.to/3lThs7X
→ 60-degree V-bit: amzn.to/3pTbUg6

Once you get a basic understanding, then comes the search on Amazon and boy, is that frustrating. Don't worry, the entire list of what you need is below and all links are provided for you to save that hassle (you'll thank me later)
Without this basic set of router bits and tools, you will not be able to effectively run your CNC router. So, what are the best (and necessary) router bits and tools you will need for your new CNC router?
As much as you may not think you'll need calipers, you'll be glad you got them. Otherwise, you'll unexpectedly cut into your spoilboard (and that's not fun)
The video discusses this and a list is below so you don't have to search for it.
You will need the items listed below to get started with your CNC router. Below are links to all the things I mentioned in the video including router bits and other tools you will need

The irony is that I've acquired all of the things you defined in this video by trial/error. Thank you for validating my purchases.

@Karl...thank you. and THANK YOU for the donation! So much appreciated. I am always planning the next video. On the drawing board: → Must know for clamping materials in CNC routers → What does all that G-code mean in my G-code program → Climb vs. Conventional cutting explained → Several 'how to' projects → Important planning 'order of operations' when designing a project Ugh! I can't make them fast enough...

Hi Garrett Thanx you so much for the help[ful video I am just starting out (haven't even purchased my machine yet)but I am learning the soft ware an learning about the bits and things nut I am starting out with aluminum mainly just drilling and rounding off .25 in edges. any recommendations for aluminum bits
@IDCWoodcraft
@IDCWoodcraft 3 года назад
@@rolfjohansson3827 for aluminum bits, you want to use up cutting bits, not down cutting. Typically your standard end Mill router bit can handle aluminum

I recently decided to purchase a CNC (Lugana) and it comes wirh the VCarve Pro software. I have watched several different tutorials, but your the only one that I can follow. Thanks for making it simple enough for me. I downloaded the free trial and when I follow your step by step video for beginners I don't always get the same results. Are there different revisions of this soft ware?
@IDCWoodcraft
@IDCWoodcraft 2 года назад
Dennis, I'm always happy to help! I know VCarve can be a pain to learn but stick with it and with a little practice, you'll be a pro in no time! Yes you're right, there's different versions of VCarve and I use the latest version. What differences are you having on the projects? Congrats on the Lugana, it's an awesome machine I'm jealous man! Keep up the good work!

With the thinner engraving bits, especially the 1/8" and thinner should you dial down the inches per minute feed rate so as not to break the bits? The spindle can exert a lot of side force on the cutting edge of the bits. Don't want to ruin any investment on the tools if we don't need to. Thanks,
@IDCWoodcraft
@IDCWoodcraft 3 года назад
Hi Brian. You always want to get feeds and speeds for bits. Especially when they are getting very small, just for the reason you are concerned about.

Nothing better than someone giving you the right knowledge and tools, you can literally cut out months or years of trial and error. I recommend buying Garrett's starter kits or other bits to help you and Garrett and support these fantastic tutorials. CNC is a small audience of creative thinkers, so not a great (if any) income from millions of views on RU-vid so any purchases I'm sure will help out.

Great video, is it possible to use a conventional router bit with a bearing on a CNC, as an example an round over bit or a raised door panel bit.
@IDCWoodcraft

David, I cannot recommend it brother! There are special CNC bits without the bearing designed for that job!

Is the CNC chuck holder size adjustable? I'm planning to buy.. But afraid the size doesn't fit to my spindle chuck
@IDCWoodcraft
@IDCWoodcraft 3 года назад
Hi Husien. Chucks for CNc routers are fixed. Meaning a 1/4" chuck is for 1/4" bits. To hold a 1/8" bit in a 1/4" chuck, you either need a smaller chuck collet *interchangable with 1/4" collet) or a collet adaptor/reducer. That's why I include reducers in the beginners set I sell.
