i've tried a lot of setups for bowl riding, the last one probably being my favorite which is a 8.5 with 169 trucks and 60 mm 100a wheels, realy stable and cool to ride
No idea why, but for me board set up videos are the most satisfying videos to watch. Especially when you explain the gear you got and why. I personally am a two set up guy, one for street one for transition, but both within a quarter inch of each other (8.75 and 9). Biggest crucial/noticeable difference for me is the wheel size (52mm vs 54+). I also prefer aces over indys for transition skating. Something about the turning on them. Anyway, killer vid!!
I ride a 9.13 Powell AA flight deck, Ace 55s, and 54mm slime balls for everything, park, street, transition, and I love it. Wide boards and nice surfy trucks just feel good.
If your still struggling with frontside slappy's what I found helpful when I was learning them was to loosen up your trucks and think off it as more off a carve grind on flat.
Love hearing different perspectives. Just got some 55mm wheels and I felt like those were big. I wonder what 58’s feel like! Awesome video and good input! New sub
I've had 2 Polar decks in that shape and it's probably my favorite shape I've ever skated. Super comfy, not too long and neither is the wheelbase, is a great all around shape. Great pop as always from Polar and the shorter wheelbase keeps it from feeling too heavy.
setup looks awesome! one day i'll have to try a board with that sort of shape. I personally have 2 setups, but one is for vert and one is for everything else. vert setup is 8.5 with 58s and my everything else is a 8.38 with 52s. decided to do the dual setups cause my local park/shop hooked it up with the complete from an IG contest during quarantine
I just got a Nick Boserio, the only Polar that was left at that the shop. It's wide for me (8.625) and I love it. The concave is great too. with some 149 MIDS.
Nice board ! I only skate transition and ride a 9” Steve Caballero Flight that has a lovely square tail, round nose and steep concave that keeps my front foot firmly planted in the pocket at the nose. Indy 149’s bones hard bushings to make the indys turn sharper. 1/8” risers, 58mm Spitfire F4 full conicals that grip any surface and lock in great & go nice and fast, and bones Swiss 6 ball bearings and Powell thin rib rails which are super slidey ands it’s perfect 👌 Installing the bearing spacers means you can tighten the wheel nuts all the way down as tight as they go and the wheels spin as fast as they should. I made a few videos demonstrating on my channel.
similar to my most recent setup too, I got my first christmas complete since I was a teen, I got a deck from Detested a UK company more on the punk and black metal side of things, 9" with a similar shape to yours, ace 55's, similar grip job, bronson g3's and spitfire 54mm F4 conicals.
Go big or go home. I still collect pops but skate anything bigger than 8.5. I'm old school. Pigs Rule! Looked like a fun session with Dan the other day. Enjoyed that one. He gave me a heads up on what is coming! Keep up the collabs and good work Brother! 👊🐷🤘
I’m trying to get into transition skateboarding, coming from street, not use to skateboarding with big fat boards, I ride a 7.75 , don’t think that’s a good size for transition right? What would be a good size to start with, I like this deck shape ,something I would want to try.
Hey Zach how are you liking the Aces so far? Thinking about getting a pair of 55s for an 8.5" street/park setup. I've heard a lot of good things but I'm scared of switching from what I know lol.
ace trucks you dont want to tighten right away anyways the bushings are too soft and will blow out. you need to right them stock for the first week until they break in and round out a little before you tighten up any of the kingpins
Unfortunately you kind of need risers on the 9" Independent Trucks. They make them so flat. Not sure why they do that. Assuming it's not an issue on the Ace Trucks
Are you still riding 58mm wheels? I’m keen to know, for mini ramp and transition, if you would choose 54mm or 56mm. I don’t see many 55mm wheels available…?
Thought on Ace vs indies? im thinking about getting new trucks and since i dont skate a whole lot (and the few spots in my home town are mainly gaps) trucks last a long time with me. Want to make sure i make a good decision Keep up those videos, your whole vibe and skating style makes you hands down my favourite skater on youtube :) take care
@@ZackDowdy opinions are personal but this one feels like a no brainer! My doubts were because i heard people saying that aces have a smaller wheel base. I assumed it wouldnt be that noticeable since the wheel base of the board obviously wont change. Do you feel the difference that much or is it an issue?
what shape is that? most polar shaped decks look weird on pictures so im afraid i wont like it. Also when to change wheels? had my bones SPF for 10 years and i dont feel like i they are bad or anything, last time i checked their size they were 2mm worn, so idk
The onl ything I like about your board is the maple top..but you covered it u............Doh! Be so kool if someone did cactus graphics with som skulls.
@@ryansmith248 ive never heard of that. and i cant imagine why. only truck that i know has an issue with risers are thunders cause theyre drilled more in the middle of the baseplate. i allways use Smucks risers. the oval holes should fit any truck, and both new and oldschool bolt patern. my friend rides them with Psycho risers and those dont have oval holes. so i guess most risers shuild just work.
did you put your "middle thing" (speed ring) between your bearing and wheel? my heart exploded. they go on either side of the bearings, against the truck and the axle nut. (axle nut not axle bolt, bolt is like a screw the nut screws onto it.)
Is it just me... or have the prices of these items not changed in 20+ years? If my burrito was $2.75 - and now it's $9.00, how are these things still the same price?
I don't get it. 58 mm wheels without riserpads on ACE trucks and original bushings? I ride 60mm wheels with 1/4 riser pad on ACE trucks and still have wheelbites.
I heard there's a shortage of skate parts, especially outside of the US, because of the current global situation. Anyone else found the same? I've struggled to find stuff online locally, but I only started skating again during the pandemic, so I can't really compare.
