I'd be interested in a video on how it feels on a vert ramp and bowl! Looking at making a hybrid setup myself but am airing more on 58s vs 56s...but might go with 56s if you think they feel alright

I have a 8.75 welcome shaped board it’s wide where needed for transition but it’s light enough where it doesn’t feel heavy. I also use 99a spitfire 54mm conical literally the perfect wheel for street and transition with the perfect slide and perfect feel. I also have indys 159 but if you want it light get the hollow ones but I prefer a little heft on my board.

Get videos! I've had 4 Madness setups, they are sick decks. I also use risers. With 56mm wheels you dont need both risers. You might try to just use the solid shock pads and you wont have the same stick out. I normally use 58mm wheels with a 1/8 shock pad but even with my 60mm bones wheels I don't get wheel bite.

Nice. I have been looking into making my board more of a hybrid by changing the wheels. Not sure if I’d need to change anything else. Any input or advice is much appreciated! I have an 8.25” Powell peralta Vallely deck, mini logo trucks with risers, 54mm bones stf wheels, and I forgot what the bearings are. I was thinking since I want to skate both street and park/transition that I’ll change the wheels to 56mm oj mini elite combos, and other than that will probably just change the bearings to bones red or bronsons g2 or g3. What do you think? Thanks

LOVE in depth setup videos like this. Subscribed. I don't want to be a negative Nancy here but personally I can't deal with those little knubs that stick out on the side of the deck. I had them on a Welcome Effigy shape and they get absolutely destroyed and crappy looking when your board lands on its side. Overall that setup looks incredible though, I can't wait to try a Madness deck.
@PHeMoX

Some risers have a front and a back to them, but I have some that stick out from underneath the trucks too. It will only matter for nose slides / tail slides if the rubber can make contact with whatever you are sliding onto I think, but in general shouldn't be an issue. I know the video is old, but just saying.

Hey bro, I believe thunders are pretty low compared to indys, like 51mm right? and with 56mm wheels? does that work? without riser or shock pads? I have my doubts tbh! what do you say?

Board looks sweet. Madness decks are so nice looking. Buy some shock pads with elongated holes. I just did because my Indie Shock Pads only fit my Indie trucks. But those with elongated holes will fit any truck.

Also I loved my Raws for the first 6 months. Didn’t skate them that much but suddenly they were very squeaky and felt quite slow and even on spin tests with no load they would sort of slow themselves down. I’ve skated a variety of bearings and of all of them the Raws must sadly be said to be the worst in my mind. I say sadly because I really wanted to love them. The sound and the looks are absolutely top notch. I’ll give them another chance at some point perhaps.

You might try just the thin rubber risers - those hard plastic ones, not so good. And rubber ones, you can cut to fit, neatly. Rad setup still!

I could be wrong but I think you can just loosen your base plate bolts and shimmy the riser upwards 😅 like the set up though, I was rocking something very similar. Same slimes with a different madness deck

I thought this would be the case but it seems that the indy risers are just massive vs thunder trucks hahaa

Love your videos. Check out DOOKS risers and shock pads , they fit my thunders great. I have a Beckett Madness but prefer Welcome boards made by PS Stix, great hybrid shapes and crisp lively feel to the wood. You might find a shape that does it all there. Aloha!

the biggest difference is going to be your timing of your pop and flip tricks depending on the wb you switched from.

Great video! I'm trying to get back into skateboarding in my 30s and imagine I'll be spending a bit more time doing park and transition. Does shoe size/height matter when it comes to deck size? I'm size 9 US and can't decide if I'd be better off with an 8.25 or 8.5 deck. Thanks for making these videos!
@LewisFarley

It's just personal preference really mate. I would test both if you can. I'm a 9 and have been riding a 8 most of my life but recently moved up to 8.5 and loving it so far

You should've used the shock pads and make extra holes for the thunders to fit right and then nothing would've stick out

How did you level up to a private warehouse already?! That's the absolute dream! Another good vid man keep them going! Also I reckon you can get away with no risers on 56mm - although you skate your boards harder than I do...

risers dont fit well because you used indy risers with thunder trucks, i did the same thing lol. but I got some cork risers on ebay made for thunders and they fit perfect
@s.ibnihenry.abdullah2165

I thought about same when I saw risers with trucks on, it was tho interesting thing to see how you really in practice can see how difference is between indy and thunder trucks with regards to where trucks are on board this effect how wheelbase will feel hence thunder and indy trucks have some different feeling to it .

I tried Indy shock pads and didn't like them at all. You can't tighten the bolts down properly. They mush out. I'm using 1/8" risers (hard plastic, not rubber) on my setup with 63mm cruiser wheels and Independent trucks. I prefer taller wheels and a riser at this point. I like the steeper angle for ollies. Tried a different setup without the risers and sharked the sh.. out of the side of my shin when my foot went over the nose.

I just use razor blades for cutting grip tape. Don't ruin an expensive knife like that. I use one blade per grip job because it gets instantly dulled. Though I cut my grip from the top, which I guess most people don't. I file around the edges with a round screwdriver first. Then, cut from the top with a razor blade right in the center of where it was filed. Usually comes out pretty decent.

I skate with riser pads, almost looks like you put them on backwards
@sasproductions701
@sasproductions701 3 года назад
riser pads whats that! we had them in early 2000s, then it wasnt cool to have them lol but for impact down drops, risers are the shit. the reason why some people dont use risers is because the deck and trucks create a snappier pop than it would with rubber and plastic in between. u get me? also if u got low trucks and cant afford mids or high trucks then u could use risers and also fit bigger wheels on. i hope i helped some ppl understand this.
@idmhead0160
@idmhead0160 2 года назад
I was thinking the same thing. Even if you are using Indy risers with Indy trucks, they have to be put on a certain way. It looked like, like you said, they were on backwards, and needed to be flipped. Though, I think I've heard that they don't fit Thunders properly. So, I guess that's part of it as well.

raws dont collect dirt because they arent oiled. everyone who pops their shields need to soak their bearings in acetone to get the oil off the bearings so dirt wont stick inside the bearings.
@vorpalblades
@vorpalblades 8 месяцев назад
Acetone can weaken the cage, WD-40 is preferable as a degreaser. Just takes 24 hours to evaporate.
