NOBODY is “gifted with a naturally green thumb”. Why do people think this is a thing? We try, we fail, we LEARN, we try again and get better each season. Some learn from family and friends at a young age. What some assume is a gift, is really the DESIRE to work hard and learn. As a trained pianist, I’ve gotten this comment about music so often too. No I’m not gifted, I literally spent my entire life practicing.

I am in the south of England UK and my passion are Dahlias ,I just found out you can grow them from their own seeds which I find super exciting, also my favorites are Zinnia and China Asters (which last ages in a vase) and not forgetting Sweet peas
@twosistersflowerfarm
@twosistersflowerfarm 3 месяца назад
I grew dahlias from seed for the first time last year and it was such a fun surprise! I’ve never had great luck with asters but maybe this is the nudge I need to give them another try 😉✨

For my tiny urban flower farm I need to grow great producers with big impact, as my growing space is only about 1/16 acre. Dahlias, peonies, sunflowers, ranunculus, and sweet peas are my top five.

I live in a difficult climate(Arizona type) so my first consideration is what can do well. I like yarrow and zinnias because they grow okay here. I'm in my third year and am growing as many different types of flowers as possible to see how well they grow. Some are: flax, bachelor buttons, mexican sunflower tithonia, salvia, ca bush sunflower, hyssop, bee balm, scabiosa, dianthus, poppies...It's an experiment and terribly exciting!!! I am not planning on being a flower farmer but I would say knowing what grows well is super important. Find what thrives. Happy gardening everyone!

Yes 🙌 growing what thrives in your individual climate is such an important key to success! Love the experiment you're doing! I hope you're able to gleam plenty of useful takeaways from it... best of luck!!

Good and generous advice! Thank you! I love to grow so many, but the top ones are Canterbury Bells, Peonies, Daffodils, Statice, mint, basil, sunflowers, tulips, mahogany splendor hibiscus and lilies. And zinnias and yarrow. And probably several others I’ve forgotten.

@@twosistersflowerfarm Yes! You would only need 4-6 plants, depending on your needs, as they produce so many stems.

My favorite cut flower is celosia. There are so many forms and colors. They do really well in the heat and the pest pressure is very low where I am. It's also unique in shape. I hope to sell this one flower with its many shapes to my sister in law that is a florist and then grow the tried and true for the rest of what I do for bouquets. This is my third year so I'm getting some experience under my belt. Thanks for another great video.
@twosistersflowerfarm

I LOVE celosia too! Probably grow too much of it but it's so versatile.. makes a great dried flower if you don't have use for it while it's fresh😁

I don't cut too many of my flowers, but am interested in cutting more for my own use. Dahlias, peonies, and roses are a few favorites. I also want to continue cutting yarrow and strawflowers to dry for winter arrangements.

Thank you, Zinnia, dahlia, sunflowers, peony, Russian sage, stock, canna, globe thistle, mrs burns lemon basil as well as many other herbs. Poppies, Amaranth bunny tails, orchids, gomphrena... I'm sure I've forgotten a few and grow others that are not cutting flowers. When I lived in IL, Loved my Tulips, daffodils grape hyacinth... very difficult now that I'm in FL.

Thanks for all your sharing. I am a home gardener trying to supply for my church alone. 2nd year. Lots to learn. I love variety. I don't have room to grow all what I like or rather I am trying to figure out what is good for zone 6 or 5.

I have been growing flowers for a couple of years and when starting seeds keep getting mold on top of the seedlings, is this because I don't have overhead lighting? Also for lighting do you turn it off at night or leave it on?

If i can only start 10 dahlias which varieties would you recommend and how many of each variety? I will be growing a mix of benary zinnias, procut sunflowers, celosia, cosmos and basil.
