Being a flat footed athlete and trying to get back into running after a long while, this specific podcast has really helped a ton on what would be the best next purchase! Really appreciate all your feedback and your knowledge!
My favorite trainer right now is still the Topo Cyclone 2! Thank you for consistently putting out quality and informative content. You guys are my last word when it comes to choosing a new pair of running shoes!
My favorite trainer of the year is also the only new trainer I’ve purchased this year. The Rebel V4. I love the wide toe box, how stable it is, and how versatile it is.
I see a reasonable number of teenagers at work with lumbar spine stress fractures so this episode was highly relevant and close to home. Keep up the good work!
I picked up a new pair of the Saucony Tempus during this marathon training block for those daily miles because it just works. I wish it was a little softer but I love that I can trust it to not give me any problems
My favorite daily trainer of the year is the same as last year... I've tried many of the new models and nothing beats the Superblast. If I have to choose 2024, it's probably the Speed 4.
The Saucony Speeds have been wonderful during my plantar fasciitis comeback! A bit stiffer bc of the nylon plate, but still kind of cushioned. I know they aren't technically a "daily" trainer, but for me right now, its working!!
The “new” daily trainer I got this year since my Superblast is getting up there in the miles was the Triumph 20 since I found it for $81 and the Superblast was sold out in my size. Really enjoying it so far and can see why a lot of people praise it as a more versatile highly cushioned daily trainer since the Pwrrun+ does have some bounce to it at faster efforts. I’d still probably take the Superblast over it, but the price difference is pretty notable.
For daily miles - Ride or 880. Shoe of the year - Rebel v4. Although it’s mainly for up-tempo, it feels great going easy too. It’s bouncy without the mush and bottoming out of prior versions.
We sadly have not tried the Rebel v4. But you'll be able to get another pair, because you've won this week's Running Warehouse gift card for $100! Congrats! Send us an email to doctorsofrunning@gmail.com (add your username so we know it's you!) and we'll get you set up.
Great podcast. It elicited another question regarding the older female athlete and bone density. Emailed you. Hopefully you can cover it in an upcoming episode.
My gel cumulus 25s have been great and incredibly durable. I'm coming up on five hundred miles and there's only a little bit of wearing smooth along the outer edge of the outsole.
I switched over from the Mizuno Wave to the GEL-CUMULUS 25 and haven’t looked back. Such a smooth comfortable ride and being a tall 285lb guy I love the support.
I'm really enjoying the Puma Velocity Nitro 2 at the moment. I picked up a pair for £62 and they feel great. There's a nice amount of ground feel for a shoe with a decent amount of midsole and they feel lighter than expected on my feet. I'm also trying out the Hylo Impact right now, but only one five-mile run into them so far, so it's early days.
Kayano 30 and Vongo 5 are still my stability meat & potatoes, but the Superblast, Guide 17 and most recently (due to soleus issue) the Adrenaline GTS have taken up residence. The Superblast is just awesome I think.
The Saucony Tempus is my favorite shoe for everything from slow to fast to race day. But my running style also eats the lateral heal outsoles for lunch. So I use the Mizuno Horizon 6 for a lot of miles. It’s built like a tank and is the only shoe that does a good job of holding up to my running style.
My favorite trainer I’ve purchased this year is the Hoka Mach 6. (But my favorite in general is the Boston 12 - I absolutely love that shoe!) smooth and poppy and just works so well with my mechanics.
Picked up my first high cushion trainer (Topo Atmos) and have been loving the transition into something other than 0 drop. Thanks for the great content
The Novablast 3 is working really well for me right now. The Hoka Mach 5 was a great shoes but I didn't love how it seemed to wear out pretty quickly. I'm looking forward to trying out the Hoka Mach 6. Thanks for the great info!
Right now, I’m really digging the new 880v14. It’s firmer and more stable than the 1080v13; you lose the bounce but for me, it provides a nice smooth ride.
Another great episode since I'm dealing with injuries discussed, or briefly discussed in the video. Would love to have heard more discussion on how to properly diagnosed bone stress injuries as research indicates that x-rays may not capture fine cracks in the bone. Some research pointed out that using a tuning fork may be more accurate. Curious on your input on best way to diagnose. Also dealing with Post Tib and would love to hear a more in depth discussion on cause, repair/recover, and prevention.
I have a high arch and have had foot problems this years. Two shoes that really helped are the Brooks Ghost 15 and the Mizuno Wave Rider 27. They're basically the same shoe (I find the Ghost to be slightly softer and the Wave Rider to be slightly more responsive).
The Craft PRO Endur has been my recent daily trainer. It has a midsole that is supposed to have some type of Peba blend, but it's not that soft, which I've actually liked. The bonus is that it has a wide toebox and has high volume that accommodates my wide feet.
Favorite daily trainer : Nike Infinity Rn4. By far the best version. ReactX midsole seems to last forever. Nothing spectacular but the shoe just works for me.
Foam More 4 still works for really slow daily runs. The Prime X works for easy recovery runs 1-2x week. Waiting for deliver 21:32 y of two pair Prime X Strung just Bought.
Great episode. May have to pick up the cloud monster hyper. My favorite daily trainer currently is Reebok float ride 3. Older model on sale and couldn't pass up on. The foam is really great.
I’ve been enjoying my Novablast 3 as my trainer this year as I’ve been upping my mileage. Although, the shoe is getting close to retirement and the RW gift card would help in getting the Supernova Rise to replace my Novablast.
Loving my ASICS trabuco max 3 I just bought from Running Warehouse! Just did a 32k whisky basin trail race yesterday in them with no rubbing and feet felt great
I tend to chase deals so my latest acquisition and top daily trainer for the moment is the (new to me) Boston 10. 😂 I know the people called them bricks, but I like them so far. Oh, I get that "Clifton" blister with my Adidas SL's. I swapped out the insole and its a bit better, but I'm hoping I build up a good callous.
Not my favorite but the Pegasus 39 were very dependable for training during the summer for its durable outsole. But I do want to look for something that has more midfoot support
Best Daily Trainer for me is the Saucony Triumph 20! It's been a workhorse for me for a couple years now. I'm interested to see the Triumph 22 to come out soon...
Running in zero to 4 mm drop Topo cyclone , Altra Rivera , Rivera 3 , Provision 7,8 to address flat foot issues so far no foot issues like when running in Kinvara pro or On Eclipse
I've been running the Puma Velocity Nitro 2 and I love how the Nitro foam feels underfoot. But I think it may be too narrow in the mid foot for me. I felt some tightness on my right side after a couple of runs in it.
Loving my asics novablast 3 le, any speed my calves feel fresher than sny other shoe. Thinking about getting some novablast 4s for long runs and keeping these fresh for racing.
I’m running in the ASICS Kayano 30. I really like them but I’m hoping to get the gt 2000 to run my first marathon Would love firm stable or stable neutral recommendations?
I got the new balance fuelcell rebel v4 and enjoying it a lot - it feels like much like the novablast - but I'm worried about durability of the foam. I would love to hear if you have tried it and what your impressions are. My last year favorite was the Topo cyclone 2 and the Adidas Boston 12 - which is probably still my favorite for this year
My favorite trainer has been the Adidas Adizero Prime x 2 Strung… I know it’s billed as a racing shoe that’s “illegal”, but it’s kinda perfect for LSD or EZ miles, with the super thicc midsole and the dual carbon plates…
Nike Invincible Run 3 had been a nice replacement to my Novablast 3s for long runs and mileage. Brooks Hyperion Max feels nimble on my feet especially around the forefoot but still has a decent amount of foam under foot which is best of both worlds and I like the no plate its a good sneaker I feel like if that shoe came out this year it’d have a board in the midsole but lets see on the second version. Gym treadmill shoe has been the Asics Cumulus 25. That shoe feels very plush to me Im not sure if thats what they’re going for I’m also 200lbs bodyweight so that might be a big factor but that shoe is awesome at being extremely casual I like those type of trainers like the Brooks ghost’s of the market. Its nice for eating up miles at an easy pace. Size 14 Wearer
I have the same wide flat foot issue... the brooks ghost max still juts into my arch. The wide is ok but not amazing. Ive found the cumulus in extra wide has been good. The sc elite v4 had worked well. Endorphin speeds in wide are pretty good as well.
My favorite trainer right now are Brooks Ghost but want to try a new brand. I’m nursing my plantar fasciitis and would like recommendations on what shoes to try out. Thanks guys for the giveaway and Running Warehouse! 👍🏼
I am happy with GT 2000, I've flexible arch. In past, I have tried Kayano (gel variant) and brooks adrenaline gts (biomogo ? Support) but I tend to feel medial posting (and the drop) - need to your input as to why is that the case, my feet is very sensitive to support even though i need it (as per shoe stores) my body don't accept uneveness inside shoe (for support)
You guys have reported some concerns with using super shoes and their possible impact on decreasing the training effect on the Achilles, so I wondered if there was any concern with using the speed 4 as a daily trainer. Thoughts?
Right now is the Saucony Ride 15, granted I got 2 pair for a very cheap price. Most shoes work fine with me. And I think I have a preference towards stable neutral
I decided to try number of new shoes over the past few months - Adidas Adizero Boston 12, Saucony Endorphin Speed 4, ASICS GT-2000 12, but still keep going back to my Saucony Triumph 21s 😂
I have been running for a couple of years now and have gotten my first overuse injury. I believe it's called Posterior Tibial Tendonitis. Is there a difference when trying heal a bone stress reaction vs a tendon stress reaction?
