These lamps look intimidating but are in fact easy to do! The best part is you can use essentially anything you want as long as it connects and is hollow on the inside to push wire through.

That's a cool design. It has more features/details than mine! I like the addition of the clock/time piece. I'll have to keep that in mind for a future build.

Fire sprinkler fitter here. I scrap thousands of pounds of this shit every year. Flanges, bypass water meters, fittings, valves,etc. I collect and save all the old shit. I have sprinkler heads all the way back to the 20's. antique gauges, heavy, brass/ glass, going back to the 40's.

You are a magician..... I really enjoyed watching you put that together I could barely put two sticks together.....the rest of the wiring is just something you cut out from a lamp or just something with a plug on it....cause I'm trying to just the same thing you just did .... But I would put it out on the lawn outside after 10 minutes it would burn.......😭😭😭😭don't know exactly. How to wire it wright ....so I tested out on the lawn just in case before it comes in my house..... To have been sacrificed.... Will study more and then try a third.......thank you....Suggestions would help much thank you so much for reading this

Very cool! But why the adhesive? What if you have to do some re wiring?
@The_Jedi
@The_Jedi 4 года назад
Lou Cabrattzie I appreciate the comment! I used it because I didn’t want any of the fittings to shift at all which could possible pull on some of the wiring and damage it among other things. It’s certainly optional. Also, you can still used a wrench and pop then loose with enough force. It wouldn’t be very hard to take it all apart again if needed.

Ninna Moscato thanks so much for the support! The elbow is 3/4” And as far as the clock face, that’s a 3/4” to 1” reducer elbow and the clock fits perfect inside the 1” side

Nice lamp, curious though, are you concerned it is going to fall apart or something? That's a bunch of JB Weld, on pipe fittings no less! I mean, where is it going to go?!?!? Final thought, kill that music, so annoying I muted it, hope you didn't say anything during the course of the video!
@The_Jedi
@The_Jedi 5 лет назад
I didn’t tighten the fittings down, I wanted them to be positioned right so I used the weld. Better to have more than enough to secure it then it shift one day.

The_Jedi , you could have used Loctite threadlocker , comes in blueberry and cherry flavor , and you would have gotten the same results , Harley-Davidson engine builders use it when they rebuild an engine because of the vibration, I have used it on Gravely's lawn equipment when I would rebuild engines and I build Chevy engines , and red Loctite on flywheel bolts and pressure plates, it resists heat up to 400 degrees, the blue is for low heat applications, I call them cherry and blueberry for my own amusement

Can you show more detail as to exactly how there was one wire through a pipe then suddenly there were two? really wish that was slowed down and shown in greater detail.
@The_Jedi
@The_Jedi 4 года назад
deafcaroline I apologize, I can see what you mean. I don’t like for my videos to last to terribly long as to not exhaust the viewer. So basic wiring 101- you always have to have two wires (positive/negative) red is positive and black is negative. The original two wires I took from the lamp at the beginning are the wires I pushed through to the bulb in my lamp. The only thing that changed was having to wire that switch in that you saw I put inside that water spigot. In order to do that, the switch acts as an interruptor to the flow going through the positive wire. That’s why I wired everything first and showed you how it looks fully wired before shoving it all through the lamp. The positive and negative wire must both reach the bulb at some point. In regards to the switch, Wherever you put your switch at you must splice that switch into the positive wire before it reaches the bulb. If you need a diagram I can email one to you if you’re still confused Thanks !

this lamp is amazing, what is the device that you are using to allow the valve handle to act as a switch, and do you have any advice on how to wire this ? thanks:)
@The_Jedi
@The_Jedi 3 года назад
Hey Fergus thanks for the comment. So the device is a rotary switch that is attached to the inside of the water spigot valve with JB weld. It’s all in the video at 4:49. Maybe you can better spot it now that you know. Here’s a link to the switch I used. www.amazon.com/Creative-Hobbies-Rotary-Bushing-Stripped/dp/B015NFWBVC/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=Rotary+Switches&qid=1613790882&sr=8-3 As far as wiring, this is shown as well in the video but the possible and negative will be run together from the bottom of the lamp where the plug will go into the wall all the way up through the lamp to the light bulb. Your switch will splice into your positive wire only. It will act as an interrupter of flow when you turn the switch.

What do you call that big fitting in the middle?
@The_Jedi
@The_Jedi 4 года назад
MISSION: PREPAREDNESS That is called a Neptune water meter chamber. It’s what most people’s water meter is connected to. Your water flows through it’s diaphragm and your City can register how much your using by having some type of register connected to its top. You can go to your local water utility company whether that’s your city utilities or an independent company, and ask them if they have any water meters in a scrap pile or extras they aren’t using for a project you want to do. I work for the city I live in so I just asked my water department since they have a scrap pile with a ton of them laying around. Thanks for the question

@The_Jedi

All of these parts can be found at a local hardware store so most all of this can be followed along to exactly to achieve this result. . Obviously I’m not naive to the fact that people don’t have access to a welder for the base of the lamp but the base can be a wide range of anything as long as it’s heavy enough to support the lamp. There are many things at Lowe’s that can thread into that bottom tee I used to serve as a base. Some things have to be looked at as a way to generate creativity to make something your own and not necessarily followed to a T. But I understand what you’re saying.

I have another lamp I’m in the middle of right now that will be more detailed and posted after competition. I have more time to edit now than I did during that one. This video was a project that I didn’t have time to be specific and do all the proper editing, just set the camera up and go. For those that are handy they will be able to watch and repeat. Those who are less experienced with this sort of thing I know obviously would benefit from more info. Thanks
