BEST DPS to Pull for Every Star Rail Playstyle!

With the advent of Boothill and Firefly bringing another DPS playstyle in Super Break into Star Rail’s gameplay, I decided to put together a list of DPS characters that you might want to look into pulling based on the categories of their respective playstyles. I will give you guys a couple of options for each playstyle whilst also explaining their strengths and reasons as to why you would probably prefer specific characters, so use those points to help yourself determine which one is more to your liking, and who to choose to pull or build!

Firefly is my first limited 5 star dps and clearing content has become so much easier since I got her 😭 my only concern is just with some bosses/enemies wherein breaking their weakness doesn’t come easy because firefly doesn’t hit as hard in that scenario :’) I think people should prioritize getting hypercarries because no matter the meta, the traditional crits and brute force hits hard in almost any scenario.

Honestly everyone should just get Jingliu or a Jingliu equivalent. She’s so broken for how easy she is to use, regret getting Acheron instead of her

Great vid, but Firefly only have one or maybe 2 teams, and she needs Ruan Mei, Instead Boothill is not dependent on Ruan Mei or HMC, so he is a lot more flexible on teams. I even have see him on a Acheron Team, using him as a support to gain stacks super fast, and to finish off big enemies.

Yeah, that's the one that I had think a bit more about too. But, I eventually put her as more flexible cause she can really help in teams that require more break power, and for some reason, you can even use her alongside Nihility teams since her burn just hit that much harder :P Boothill on the other hand, pretty much plays with the same cast of characters and same type of teams, so that's kinda my other reasoning as to why team flex goes a bit more to Firefly, but valid points nonetheless!

Firefly is much less reliant on Ruan Mei, more HMC. If you want her best team, two of her best supports are free (HMC and Gallagher) and if you do not have Ruan Mei (who doesn’t at this point) then pela is a great option, more so if you have that new artifact set. To me, firefly is better than Boot Hill. She has higher consistency, better weakness application, built in super break, relatively low cost for investment, amazing F2p lightcone that is literally her second best option, and a better damage floor. Boothill is more flexible in teams, wanting a multitude of characters, as well as being amazing in single target. Boot Hill isn’t weak and is definitely the best single target right now, but firefly is competing with the likes of Acheron.

@GoatLiffy I disagree firefly is too skill point hungry to be flexible and requires eidolons to even consider the idea you can use her in pure fiction but her value is just to implant fire weakness and break for himeko to go crazy she is just too over reliant on her team comp to do big damage. I also feel like you underestimate just how flexible boothill is it's the one thing he has over firefly. He is 10 times better in DOT teams with Kafka and luka cause bleed hits way harder than fire since it scales with the HP of enemies, he does more single target damage than firefly does blast and does the highest toughness reduction in the game.You can make the argument that boothill needs mei to not feel clunky but you can solve that by using freezebot march, sustain welt and boothill's own ult to delay enemies you are mistaking boothill for firefly cuz she is the one that plays with the same cast same characters and teams cuz she feels terrible when playing outside that.

@@max_mojo4917 I actually used my E0S1 Firefly alongside Black Swan, and it worked very well for my case! And each DoT has their own properties so you can't say that one is always better than the other because Bleed's scaling ratio against elites are abysmal and harder to buff up, while Burn gets a double multiplier regardless of the enemy. Different content/enemies will adhere to different debuffs. Boothill's biggest win over Firefly is single target damage and SP efficiency, no one doubts that. But breaking multiple enemies is quite a big part of the game at the moment, and no one does Fire Break quite as simply as Firefly. And I would argue that your solution for Boothill's clunkiness (which I didn't even consider a problem) is to employ such a niche strategy that not many people would have it readily built (sustain welt).

@@GoatLiffy was there challenge buffs involved cuz imo I don't really see that team working in any place other than pure fiction. And the breaking multiple enemies can't be done alone by firefly hence why Gallagher is there him being fire and having big toughness reduction heavily contributes to that while also being sp positive on top it's why I just can't get behind firefly being the flexible unit the better break dps I can agree with since she is easy to build has lc alternatives and majority of her best teammates are free but I can get close or similar results if i slap those same teammates with boothill she needs them but they can do just fine without her. I'm aware of the niche strategy of using sustain welt I brought those options in case mei isn't present or in another team to imitate the prolonged weakness break of enemies that mei does with her ult

At this rate, I think HSR has almost explored all types of 'Meta' teams. Going forwards, it'd probably be just damage scaling and rework of old character kits into new characters. Ex Yunli is Clara with extra gimmick

I think one mechanic they haven't really done much with is entanglement (quantum break), its an interesting idea for a break quantum 5*

Or if they ever decided to be hella gimmicky, speed and turn order, a character that use speed other than just for turn order, and a character that use the turn order for some goofy mechanics like maybe if they are just 1 action order ahead of an enemy they get the mechanic or some shit, other than that there's the obvious heal/shield=dmg which i could definitely see them doing since it's not thay gimmicky

From my experience, an-averagely built Imbi will lose out to Jingliu, but if both are in best case scenarios then Imbi would come out on top strictly in damage. But then again, while his scalings are insane, he's also an insane headache to play SP-wise if you don't have Sparkle xD Thanks for the watch!

Good video, however: team flexibility for hypercarry goes to Acheron, and team flexibility in superbreak goes to boothill- both boothill and Acheron can be used in DOT teams and are actually incredibly good/meta. DOTcheron is one of the best premium teams for PF. Acheron really only needs debuffs, not even nihility characters to perform decently (even with 1x nihility, Acheron can outdps jingliu/DHIL in ST/AoE as long as she’s getting enough debuffs in a cycle. Acheron can even run in boothill teams as a flex with boothill being a support (duel counts as a debuff cause taunt, so does break) DHIL is the most inefficient, his only viable team is a hypercarry setup, and so is Jingliu, though she is slightly better than DHIL in flexibility because you have the infamously weird jingliu+blade dual DPS team. Boothill being more flexible than Firefly though, depending on how well you can abuse the mechanics. Firefly is much easier to use, but DOT Boothill, Acheron support boothill, hell, boothill has multiple variations of his team which compete with his superbreak dmg team, replacing ruan mei or HMC with bronya/asta, whereas firefly is locked to HMC because she doesn’t have a way to consistently detonate *good* break dmg on her own. Everything else though, I agree with. 👍good video!

Ahah, but I'm only talking about the pure DPS characters here. Special builds or unorthodox character uses are better suited for other videos I think :P

in which universe is topaz dealing more dmg than jingyuan and himeko ? and himeko above JY ?? and in dmg are you taking in dmg per screenshot for boothill or sum ? boothill except from single target boss content cant beat FF.

She does, you can try yourself. Purely from the amount of times you can proc her fua plus how easy it is to proc it. Her scaling is better as well. In a team with Aventurine and Ratio, no one can touch their damage in terms of fua. In current available content, Himeko is doing more damage than Jing Yuan, but quite frankly they are very interchangeable, so I prolly should've Pure damage is how much damage they deal to a single enemy. Sure, both FF and Boothill can do 2 million damage. But, Firefly is doing 2 million split between 3 enemies, while Boothill is doing that on one enemy. It's just the way it is when you compare single targets and aoe.

How is Ratio above Himeko and JY in team flex? Ratio needs 3 debuffs to guarantee his follow up while Himeko just needs enemies to be broken by anyone and JY is basically good with any support character

You can slip in Ratio into any team and he'd do well as a subdps. 3 debuffs is VERY easy to get with any proper team. Team flex in my case refers to the types of teams these characters can fit into. Himeko and JY almost always needs to be in a FUA-centric team, and SP will always be a huge consideration for you to take into in terms of which supports you should play them with.

I'm quite new to the Game. Started playing it like a Week before 2.1 came. But, I already got some good Characters with Loucha, Aventurine, Firefly and Ruan Mei. I also have Himeko (lost the 50-50 on Jingliu's Banner), Bailu (Standard Banner), Yanqing (Beginner Banner) and of course Dr. Ratio. I also got the Majority of 4 Stars and only miss Qingque, Sushang and Yukong. But, I made a List of Characters I want to pull for and I was planning on going for a Acheron Team next for the Endgame Content. I even placed the Characters I want to go for into 3 Categories/Priorities. That way I won't have to buy the Express Pass that often and only if needed. It can also change depending on how good future Units are. But, please, tell me your Thoughts about it. The first Priority Characters I want to go for are Units I could use for different Teams. Those are Huohuo, Sparkle, Black Swan, Jiaoqiu, Kafka, Acheron and Dan Heng IL. The second Priority Characters are some I could pull later on and seem useful for me. Those are Fu Xuan, Robin, Blade and Jingliu. The third are Characters I'll go for last because they seem fun to play and strong, too. Those are Jade, Boothilly Seele smd Yunli.

I have a question. I have Kafka, il Dang Hang, and Acheron. In the next version, Jiaoqiu will be available, and if Black Swan does get her return, who should I pick? (I'm guaranteed and have 55 pity)

Jiaoqiu and Black Swan literally play the same way, so you can really choose any one of em and they would virtually do the same thing for your teams! Just pick which one you like more I suppose :P Personally, I would go for Black Swan, since she also has defense shred on her Skill and her Arcanas are just a much easier mechanic to apply debufss with, so maybe that can be a deciding factor for you!

I don't understand how FF beat Boothill in terms of team flexibility when her dmg is forever tied to HMC while Boothill doesn't need HMC and can run alot more sp than FF

Firefly can reliably break multiple targets, ignoring weaknesses and repeatedly implanting fire weakness, Boothill is less reliable at breaking targets if they're not already weak to his type. As someone who has both and ran both with and without hmc and Ruan Mei just to explore... Firefly is way more versatile and easier to use

Haha, you just haven't tried experimenting my g. I've had other videos, both mine and other people's showcase the types of teams you can use those two in. I'm using Topaz no Eidolons and No Sig and she's doing just fine. Sure I'm not zero cycling MoC or whatever, but I never gave a shit about that. I've used Firefly in BS nihility teams before and she does just fine. Before you say that I'm embarassing myself, learn how to spell "embarassing".
