What are your experiences with ergonomic keyboards and mice? Do you already own one? What's your recommendation for ergonomic keyboards?! *_*UPDATE: Kinesis Advantage2 & Freestyle2 is on the review list!_*

I have the Microsoft Sculpt, and the main problem is that many keys get stuck too often, especially the Fn keys. Also the displacement of each key is too short. Does the K860 have the same problems?

I wish the Logitech had a removable numpad. On tenkeyless keyboards like the Sculpt, a right handed user doesn't have to bend the arm out as much to use the mouse, and this helps alleviate shoulder pain. I love my Sculpt, but I would like to try the Kinesis Edge sometime.

been using the MS Sculpt + mouse for about 4 years. The palm pad actually cleans fairly easily. I also love the mouse, however, it uses cheap switches in the buttons and in the scroll-wheel that wear out after about 2 years of use and so you'll have to buy a new one after 2 years of med-heavy use. The connection with the dongle also drops out randomly every so often and seemingly the only way to fix it is by unplugging it and plugging it into a different USB port. Thinking of trying the Logitech K860 and MX Master 3.
@ProjectUpside
@ProjectUpside 3 года назад
Agreed on the keypads fading away over time for MS Sculpt. I can't even see some of the keypads anymore. I don't think I've experienced connection drop but I see what you're saying. I honestly highly recommend the Ergo 860 plus MX Vertical combo. I can tell you this, "I don't think I can ever go back from this."

I bought the Logitech you reviewed about three months ago. It's the best keyboard I have had in a while. Only con for me is the position of the number pad. I have to prop up the top of the keyboard so it slopes downward to feel more comfortable for me. Wish they had the keyboard stand on the top as well as the bottom. Not a big deal though

While I do enjoy the MS Sculpt keyboard, I'd argue that there are two design choices that I really dislike and affect my workflow. First is the layout of the Home, End, Page Up, and Page Down keys. It doesn't take long to readjust your muscle memory, BUT if you have this keyboard and a different keyboard at work/home, it really throws you off. The second annoying issues is the lack of a Fn key for the function keys. I find myself having to constantly remember to toggle the switch whenever I need to change modes, which is a very big annoyance because I end up pressing a key and cause something to happen opposite of what I intended. Also, a third issue, unrelated to design, is the keyboard randomly becoming unresponsive when used while gaming. When this happens, I usually have to wait about 20 seconds before it'll become responsive again. Average users probably won't run into these issues, but power users, developers, or gamers who heavily rely on the aforementioned keys will find these to be major drawbacks. I've since switched to the MS (bluetooth) Surface Ergo Keyboard, which I feel is even more comfortable. However, just like the Sculpt, the palm rest also gets dirty easily. Since it's light grey, it actually gets even more dirty. The other drawback is that it is really slow to wake up after it sleeps. I have to press a key multiple times before it'll become responsive. Also, the batteries don't seem to last as long as non-bluetooth keyboards, probably due to having to use a normal Bluetooth dongle instead of an LE version. For some reason, the keyboard has issues with LE dongles. Other than these three, it's a very solid keyboard. I just wish it came in black.

Valid points about keyboards! I can see the pain points with each keyboard from a heavy user's stand point. With the Ergo 860 tho, the wrist pad does get dirty but still not as easily as MS Sculpt. Due to the material of Ergo 860 used on the pad, it's super easy to clean. All you need is wet towel or even kitchen paper towel. Rub it and it's perfectly clean! I still recommend Ergo 860; great ergonomic keyboard for daily users.

Check out the Microsoft Surface Ergonomic Keyboard. It is a great keyboard but it is impossible to keep clean. The Alcantara palm rest looks great out of the box, but it will stain from normal use, and it is impossible to clean. Very nice keys, but I couldn't stand how the palm rest stained so easily. I also wanted to to be able to switch between devices, so I got the Logitech Ergo K860. The Microsoft Ergo Surface actually seems to have a better build quality. The key presses on the Ergo Surface feels perfect when it comes to the clicking and key travel, and the keys are nice and smooth. I like them better than the k860, but that may be because I got used to them after two years, so the softer key presses of the rougher keys of the K860 don't seem as satisfying at this point. The Ergo 860 has excellent build quality and keys. Overall the Ergo K860 is better for me. Also unlike the K860 and Microsoft Sculpt, there is no way to adjust the tilt on the Surface Ergo, but I got used to that after using the separate palm lifts of the Sculpt and and wired Natural 4000 for a decade. The Sculpt was nice but has a major flaw, the dongle. The dongle is bulky and breaks easily. Once it breaks, the keyboard is useless since every keyboard has a proprietary dongle. I also lost my number pad, and that seems to be an issue with a lot of users. Finally, the keys are numbered with cheap stickers that rubbed off from highly used keys after a few years. I'm hoping that doesn't happen with the Ergo K860. It doesn't seem like the Surface Ergonomic Keyboard would have that issue because it doesn't seem like they use stickers to mark the keys.

Also, the Crack in between the cushion and the keyboard acts like a trough that accumulates crumbs dust and other particles over time. And the cushion has high friction so when you're sliding your forearms or palms along the cushion it can burn. I just got the Microsoft natural ergonomic keyboard which I think is the modem version of the 4000 since it was discontinued and runs for like $350 nowadays..
@ProjectUpside
@ProjectUpside 3 года назад
Thanks for the comment! Spot on with how the gap between the cushion and the keyboard accumulates crumbs, dust, etc.. I clean it out every now and then. But I say otherwise with the material of the cushion. It don't get the same backfire. It's rather very smooth when sliding around unless you go 100mph speed haha. I haven't used the Microsoft Natural Ergonomic keyboard, but seems like a solid one except it's not wireless.

I was using the Microsoft Sculpt and was great but as I'm now using a Mac switched to Ergo K860 and the experience was not pleasant as I started to have pain in the elbow and upper arm. As the keyboard is bigger now I have to put my arm in V position from mouse to keyboard and before I had it just aside the keyboard so the movement was not big I also have both ergonomic mouse Microsoft Sculp and the vertical MX mouse from logitech I hope the pain goes away due to the bigger Ergo K860 keyboard probably is that my arm wants to use it as in the sculpt
