In this video I gush about my love for WMD's Metron and Voltera. They are the closest thing I have found to the Elektron sequencer in modular. I also give a tutorial on how to use both the Metron and Voltera as I am gushing.

As a Metronome and Voltera (1) owner, I really enjoyed this. Some good reminders of features / techniques I should try and use more. Thx!

That demo track was great, really jumps around, super playful and fun, a lot like the kind of stuff I used to play when I DJ'ed (a long time ago, back in 1200's and vinyl days) so this is really encouraging, as I've found a great deal on a used Metron, put a deposit down, finalizing soon. Really looking forward to that! Once AMMT are in production, I'll be adding some Volteras.

I love my Metron as well! It's for sure the best module I own. I like it so much I bought another. I mainly use my Voltera to select a scale and key in my quad quantizer along with the ever useful "compose" preset voltages. They allow you to set one of 16 snapshots of Voltera states and place them on any trig in any pattern. This lets me make key changes as part of a song, but it could also be used to create a palette of 16 chords and paste them into your pattern instead of having to set them per step.

Very good demo/explanation. Yes, I hope to get two Volteras and an Axxent when I one day get my hands on one of these. I briefly owned an Elektron Digitone and know exactly what you were getting at. I'd get more Volteras if I could, but I need room for all the 2hp Mix modules I'll need to route the drum outputs I'll be running on this pup! I've got to finish off my main, melodic Eurorack stuff first and then I'll expand next year from the few 808-esque drum modules I have into some actual racks dedicated to drums. My new plan is to get a Moog DFAM and put it in the 2-tier rack with Moog's 60hp Eurorack case and throw this, the Volteras, the Axxent, and mixes in there, and use them with the Hexinverter Mutant Machine, WMD Fracture, Mozzenzeef Kriket, Michigan Synth Works MicroGrids and SY0.5, along with my preexisting TipTop 808-emus, and I'll go from relying on sampled loops to being able to handle my own drum sounds in anything I do at that point. Your demo/explanation is so inspiring, so it's great to come to a decision, look up a RU-vid video to see if it seems reasonable, and then instantly find a badass dude demonstrating in the coolest way that the modules are not only good, they're excellent. Thank you for your work! Instant subscribe. PS Those fills! Goddamn! Bringing Elektron style parameter sequencing to Eurorack? Not a tough decision. So much power in your hands. Gives you full control over everything. Really powerful.

Argh this video is great and I was JUST ABOUT to pull the trigger on an Eloquencer but, on this ---> without the Volteras can you not sequence CV at all - only gates? Or is it that the Volteras allow you to do both on one sequencer channel sorta independent from each other? I love the functionality here but I'm personally more interested in using different sequencer lanes to make thick, lush harmonic stuff rather than beats!
@EZBOT_

Hey im thinking about getting one these an pairing it with a Vermona DRM IV. Their triggers respond to velocity but im having a tough time on figuring out how i would do this with the Metron. I know the Metron is only gate itself, but is there any work arounds?
@EZBOT_
@EZBOT_ 2 года назад
Maybe for the velocity sensitive bits use your DRM and for the parts that don’t need it use the Metron. I think you would need to pair some modules with the Metron to create something that made it feel velocity sensitive.

Question: can you program Metron to play reverse, random and ping pong type sequencer patterns like other complex modular sequencers like Eloquencer and 512 Vector? I need these features in a sequencer.
@EZBOT_
@EZBOT_ 3 года назад
It can do random but not ping pong or reverse. The Metron is designed for live performance more than anything so most of its features lie in writing patterns on the fly and performing them.
@GuitarsAndSynths
@GuitarsAndSynths 3 года назад
@@EZBOT_ no worries, it is still 100x better than my Korg SQ-1 and Varigate 4+ sequencers. I pre-ordered the Metron today along with a new Doepfer Monster base case. It will let me manage my drum/beat modules better. For melodic sequencer, do you like the 512 Vector? That seems like the one for that sort of thing.
@torus6083
@torus6083 3 года назад
It would be great if WMD could have ping pong and reverse in an updated firmware. Is that possible?
@Nick-kb6jd
@Nick-kb6jd 3 года назад
How does this compare to using digitakt and a midi to cv? I guess retigs and rolls are lacking in the digtkt but you gain lfos. Are there any other difference?
@EZBOT_
@EZBOT_ 3 года назад
This is specifically designed for sequencing modular and sending tons of gates and cv. Sequencing modular with MIDI will never be as powerful as sequencing with a sequencer that outputs cv. MIDI to CV loses it’s fidelity because MIDI can only communicate between 1-127 typically, where as CV has an incredible fidelity. It has a assortment of performance Fx for sequencing. I’d say it’s far more powerful for sequencing modular than any piece of Elektron gear could possibly do. However, it’s not a more powerful sequencer than the Elektron sequencer, it’s just better at sequencing modular.
@Nick-kb6jd
@Nick-kb6jd 3 года назад
@@EZBOT_ Thanks for the answer. That makes sense. I think the fidelity can be an issue sometimes. Great video. Definetly has the elektron feel about it.

Mine finally arrived. Lots to learn and the Voltera and Axxent are superb for it. It is very difficult learning curve! I'd love to see a basic idiot tutorial for newbies like me on how to use the darn thing as the manual is very confusing and Alex from WMD goes too fast on his videos.

That's really cool but couldn't you do all of this with an Eloquencer for half the price and less hp?
@EZBOT_

I prefer the Metron over the Eloquencer, though it is a great sequencer. I just found the Metron to be easier to use and improvise with.
@GuitarsAndSynths

Shame it is never available for sale. If WMD Metron has a clock, why do you need another external clock in modular setup like you have in Pamela?
@EZBOT_
@EZBOT_ 4 года назад
Pam's does a lot more than just add more clocks. It has envelopes, LFO's, clock division/multiply, triggers, Euclid, and quantize - It's awesome!
@GuitarsAndSynths

@@EZBOT_ gotcha and you are 100% correct! I just got my Pam setup and lovely device for many modulation and rhythm options. I don't have a sequencer in rack yet but it works well for that as well. Holy cow, I just realized that my setup has many of the exact same modules like yours: Pam, Plaits, Mimeophon, Quadrax. I never intended to copy other setups. Too weird! Well you have great taste in quality modules my good eurorack man.
