“I had a few good years, I went to a few English Schools and I had a good time, I was ranked second in 2009 in the under-15 age group. I did it because I was pretty good and to be honest I think I could have made a career out of it - but rugby is so much more fun than shot put.” - Itoje Now, I've never been a thrower, but I have played rugby and it IS hella fun. Maro is such a great rugby player as well. I'm looking forward to him leading for England one day (perhaps soon).
Rugby training has changed alot. 25 yrs ago it was mostly running and calisthenics. And the only specialized training was the scrum machine where anyone not scrumaging piles on top the machine to add weight.
Really enjoying this little burst of Rugby content from you and the team. Query: how is rugby developing up there in the US of A? I'm down here in South Africa (is that a cricket vest you're wearing?). It might be nice to see an exploration of the positional needs, if you feel up to it? Conditioning, etc. I play openside flanker (loose forward). REALLY looking forward to running your program next year pre-season.
Hey Chad!! Rugby players in the US are developed very similarly to our American Football Players! Both sports demand needs that can be interchangeable! Agility, power, explosiveness, and mobility to name a few! We’ll consider expanding on our Rugby videos with your video idea! 💪🏼
The US professional competitive rugby circuit MLR is growing, and in fact has added i think 3-4 teams coming for 2024, so it seems to be financially working... players are coming up grass roots nicely as academy teams are building beneath the MLR teams.
great video! awesome content! I learned a lot so far. Iwould appreciate videos about stretching and or mobility for all around atheltes and average dudes. How to Stay Flexible While Staying Strong? can you share stretching or mobility routines and daily posture fixes? thank you very much
So and big so doing an explosive movement will help to an extent but personally coming from an experience of playing high level rugby Union. Working out with in the off season with big compound moments and getting as strong as humanly possible for your frame then transitioning to explosive movements then maintaining through season is what I and everyone does. Understanding periodisation is way more important than doing a couple of movements/exercises to getting better at rugby if that’s your aim
