Uni to uni is the only leader knot for me. FG is to hard to tie and mine always fail because I suck at them. I use Swindles knot for my flouro. I've destroyed Palomar knots on hooksets with flouro but it could have been in need of a retie. With braid i will run my loop through the eye of the hook twice for the Palomar. Great video Chuck. Tight lines!
Paloma’s is my go-to knot 90% of the time when I can rig ahead. Thanks for the tip on the pinch! However, if it’s cold and your hands are half numb, I’ve always found an improved clinch or Trilene knot easier. Thankfully, cold hands are not a problem fishing with Chuck, which everyone should do!
That's just one more reason we get along Chuck. Exactly my feelings on knots. Only wrinkle is I use the Alberto for joining leaders, thinking its thinner for going thru guides.
@@ChuckPippinBassFishing I thought it would as well, but I have used just about every brand of braid and haven't had one single issue. I think it ranks right up there with the Palomar.
Great video again Chuck! I carry a pocket knife type fold up box cutter blade to remove my snell knot residue if I want to use the same hook again, mainly when not tournament fishing. It works fast and stays sharp for a good while with blades that are easy to change out. Since learning to tie the snell, I’m using it also for straight shank hooks for worm and Senko fishing too, for much improved hook ups. Thank you for your instructional videos and humor too!
Jeff Shaffer Uh, I wasn’t trying to be funny. Just kidding. Glad you like the videos. Yep, the smell knot is a good one if you have the time to deal with it when you’re done. 👍🏻
Just found your channel today Chuck, and immediately subscribed. Was watching your Texas rig clip, and then found this knot video, and it substantiates what my research has shown, and the two main knots that I’ve used, the Palomar and the uni-uni knot. Have rediscovered fishing and getting several friends involved, and am having to rig all of their rods! These knots seem to work the best, and are also the least complicated to tie, as well to teach someone to tie. Anyway, really enjoy your videos and am looking forward to your next giveaway! :) Fish-on!
A good video especially for some that are new to fishing . I recently have been using the Palomar knot more and more and I really like it. I have switched from the uni to uni knot to the Crazy Alberto knot as it seems to work better for me. As you stated it all comes down to what works for you.
Reason behind going through twice with mono and fluoro is that pinch going through creates a weak point in the knot. It either has fibers broken that cinching it down creates more problems, or the kink itself is in the knot. Braid isn’t an issue. Personally I use Palomar on braid and the clinch on mono/fluoro. Never used anything else. And I can’t tie a double uni so I’ve never run leaders lol straight 30lb braid on 4 rods, mono/fluoro on the other two.
Palomar all day every day and the double-uni on my braid when I'm fishing saltwater because I use a fluoro leader for cocahoe under a popping cork. Side note - I bought a small spool of Suffix 12lb mono a while back to try it and SEVERAL times, after I tied the palomar, I would give it a final pull test after it was tied and it would pop. And I'd already had 6 reels strung up with the stuff. Smh.A fishing buddy with me said it was because of the palomar. I told him he was smoking rocks because the knot had shit to do with that line popping. Anyway, I threw the spool away and went bought some Berkley. What's your brand preference on each (mono, fluoro and braid)?
Bo M you’re correct. It was probably a bad batch of line, not the knot. I use a variety of lines. Power Pro braid, trilene big game mono, P Line co-polymer, trilene & sun Line fluorocarbon
