Dude I love your energy! Good Vibes man. I Just found this video at the end of 2021, I am just getting into photography and videography with a Sony a6600. There are plenty of videos out there about lenses and other accessories but not so much for flash. This stuff can get tedious quick, with that I thank you for your content. I shall repay you with a subscribe, a like, and a comment. Thanks again!
My on-location portrait setup is the same as mentioned (used by FHJ), 2xGodox AD200 and an AD-B2 head. Honestly, I will never need anything more. When used together, its a 400Ws flash, which is more than enough for most situation (even in midday sun in most circumstances). When I don't need the high power, I can just split it up to 2 seperate lights, which I can use as a main and rim light. I't truly the best solution out there in my opinion.
THANK YOU.... I have been looking into which external flash to get for my Sony. Lots of great info! I'm just bummed that i missed the sale 3 months ago. Keep up the great videos =0)
This is a very informative video. I've spent too many hours trying to figure out a good flash setup for my a7rii. A how to video on how to use these flashes with camera settings would be great!
When I use a GoDox V680ii S flash on my a6500 there is an approximate 250 msec delay (not the big red-eye reduction delay) that causes me to miss those fleeting expressions. Nikon D810 with a SB910 is close to instantaneous.
Thanks for your video. I am starting wedding photography and never had a monolight. In your opinion, should I consider purchasing the AD600 pro or the AD400 pro ? Cheers.
I own them all ( when they first came out) I did not get the TTL on the 600 as I used it more for setup portraits models etc. The 200 is the best for TTL and run and gun. I get mine in Canada from a local rebranded company which I can deal with direct. Either way Godox is the king in this arena for sure
Jason, I have been looking around for this. So to clarify things, the BM means B=Bowens and M=manual (non ttl). That is why when someone looking for a Godox brand through Amazon, they only have AD600BM and it is cheaper since non ttl. On the other hand, Flashpoint comes with AD600 which is non ttl and AD600 TTL. Little note, even though the Godox transmitter for Sony is capable of TTL but the monolight itself is non TTL
I think Im going to pick up the Mini R2 for my a6500. Im still a 1 man, mobile operation who pretty much needs everything to fit in my backpack to shoot and edit where ever I go.
Finally there's someone who can pronounce "God Ox" correctly. I am tired of people pronouncing it as "Go Dox". I also hope people could pronounce Meike properly instead of "Mikey".
What cheap lighting setup kit do you recommend for someone shooting their first wedding. Do I need 2 or 3 flashes? Do I need an umbrella on a light stand for off camera flash? What’s the minimum lighting gear I need to shoot my first wedding?
Hey Jason! I am new to photography and camera, and have an A7-III. I am trying to find a good entry level ring flash for my camera and also actually wondering what is the different between the regular flashlight vs. a ring light.
So how would you compare to the Sony flash systems... I’ve heard Godox is not supported with Sony when you connect them... wireless flashes from non native Sony disable your manual settings as they overcompensate. As you adjust its makes for a different process especially using off brand flashes with Nikon it’s easy you can use any wireless setup. Sony is pricey but these babies give you a better workflow? Thoughts? I’m about to drop a G note on Godox. So I may rent to get this worked out. I just don’t want to have to restart for every setting change.
I have a Sony A7 M2 modified for full spectrum. I use this camera primarily for paranormal investigations, which flash would you go with for shooting in rooms and hallways? And if I had to shoot outside in the dark which flash would you choose for that situation!
Great video as always! I have one question though, for working in very dim lighting conditions (night clubs, events etc) do you know if the Zoom R2 has a usable focus assist beam on the E mount cameras?
....... i thought that the way High Speed Sync works ....is that the flash stays on a longer on your subject helping with the balance of light from subject to background ........ and no flash can over power the sun ..........
Flashpoint XPLOR 600 HSS TTL - $549 Guys, this price is only available through the above link. When I searched the same item through Adorama, I couldn't find the same price with same features. With exact model name above, $549 item lacks TTL. The prices are valid until Nov 23.

Hey Jason! Awesome Video it answered so many Questions about this system :) there is a Godox B for 700€ out there and a godox bm version for 500 :/ but where are the differencies? An how long will the batteries last on the 600 and on the 200 ? this is at the moment my main problem on my nissin flashes
$200 OFF! ON SALE NOW!! Offer Ends Nov 23! Flashpoint XPLOR 600 HSS TTL - $549 Adorama: geni.us/j5Y6kYB Trigger: geni.us/m0fS Godox AD600BM* - $595 with Sony Trigger Amazon: geni.us/SMR2t * DOES NOT HAVE TTL
question. will the GodOx X1T-S trigger my Fotodiox H400A ? the sync is off when I use the onboard A6500 flash, to set off the strobe. Is that my problem? Need a hotshoe trigger?
Sucks the AF assist light won't work on these flashes with Mirror less cameras. I know Sony has a on body one but when u use bigger lens it gets blocked and it's also so a very distracting orange light. I would love to go full sony but not having a proper af assist when I'm shooting night clubs or other low light events doesn't help much.
Hi, Jason! Thank you very much for your great video. excellent job! Have you ever tried Nissin System? I’m switching from GH5 and looking for same HSS capabilities I had with my Nissin a60i flashes. Thank you!
Hi Jason. I love your videos and the info that's provided in your channel. I would like to ask you about weddings photography and what I need to start with? And which mirrolles sony camera is to get. I have been looking at sony a7ii or a6500. Thanks
Hey Jason, love your content! Do you think the umbrella would work well for portraits and group shots with the Flashpoint Zoom? Thinking of using it to light group pictures / wedding reception dancing. Thanks!
Thank you Jason. This is very helpful! Quick question. I am purchasing Sony A7 III. I would like to have HSS so I can take portrait photos in bright sun light. I see that you recommend this flash for Sony Godox TT685S ($110) but I am also seeing Godox VING V860IIS ($179). Would you still go with TT685S and would it work with A7 III? Until I came across your video, I was considering Sony HVL-F45RM ($348) which is quite expensive. Thank you sharing this video - it is very helpful and I would go through your links for purchasing products.
The xplor 600 worked perfectly with my Canon gear but I just switched to Sony and I even bought the new R2 for Sony and it fails to fire around 30% of my shots. Is there a camera setting I need to switch on? I mean it does Fire sometimes.
Hi, Can you tell me if this system should work on the original sony a7 camera? I have a Godox X1s trigger that works with a Godox speedlite on my a6000 but I can't get it to fire on my a7.
Do you recommend the R2 for wedding photography? I don't want to break the bank yet, but I have my first wedding next month. I need a flash for my A7iii so help me here. The umbrella or a softbox?
I have the Sony A6400, and I’m just now getting into studio portraits. I’m thinking about buying the mini speedlite you showed in the video, but what trigger would I buy? I’m scared to buy the wrong thing
Hi Jason! what about the new models ORLIT RoveLight RT 610 HSS TTL Battery-Powered Monolight With TR-Q6 for Sony, ($449.95) maybe a modern version of the Flashpoint? Thanks
in Adorama they have for Canon, Nikon and Sony, no many people know about it, and for $449 included the Sony trigger and the reflector is an unbelievable price.
I'm getting completely frustrated with my Godox AD600BM strobe with the Godox X1 wireless trigger for my Sony A7RIII. I have used it professionally but it misfires too much. Did a test this evening, right now it's misfiring at about 9% of the time. When I'm on a professional gig this just isn't acceptable. A workaround I found was using an Impact transmitter and receiver which gives me a zero percent misfire rate (or at least so low it's negligible) but this leaves me without the ability to use HSS. Any recommendations on what I can do? I'm even prepared to just start from scratch and get new gear. Anyone have any suggestions?
