On my 6400 I have various objects in the edges of my frame go in and out, or "breathe" as another photographer described it. Even my faces. I was using Wide so I decided to try zone. Hole this helps. I hate it when it searches all across the frame .
Hi, I am a Makeup & Hair Artist and Need to shoot lots of Videos Indoor for Instagram and RU-vid and sometimes going Live with Ring-Light setup and Fill Light, so which camera will be best Suitable for my profession, Cell Phone, Osmo Action, Sony A6400, Canon 80/90D or Sony A7iii with Suitable Lenses I keep on Shooting photos and Slow motion Videos for my portfolio, and in weddings most of the time, theirs low light condition if Indoor sometimes outdoors and I don't want that Noise in my Videos in low light. So Please Suggest any other alternatives if any. Thanks in advance ;) keep the good job.
I am a big camera noob, Jason, and your videos are proving themselves to be SO useful ! I'm so looking forward rebranding my channel this month and starting making videos again, with my newly bought sony A6400. Thank you so so much, you're the best.
I have a Video shot from a Sony Alpha a7RII in my 4K collection and trust me it's always a pleasure to watch it each and every time 😍😍🥰🥰 I ❤Sony and Thank You Jason for your amazing insight and useful tips. ❤ from Pakistan 👍
Dude. This is seriously such a good tutorial. I really think most people doing tutorials don't fully understand the modes themselves because they never explain when to use each. You are a life saver mate. Subscribed.
Just discovered your channel now. I just picked up an a6000 a couple weeks ago and I'm loving it. Thank you for your videos, especially the one about audio solutions for the a6000
Again another great Video Jason. Blocking and Tackling, the most basic things are most important. I learned some great info on this video. Nicely done!
This is actually really useful information! You have no idea how many reviews are out there where people talk about how useless the touchscreen is because they didn't know to use the different autofocus modes. This gives me another reason to go from my a6000 to a6500
Just bought my first Sony camera - a7riii. Thanks for making these tutorials, they are very helpful especially for a sony newbie. Love your videos and your quirkiness.
Man, I have to say big thank you, I could not figure out why it has just started hunting for focus, didn’t realize it was becuase of the monitor had to donate to say thank you.
I just discovered the focus issue with LED light behind the subject. Manual focus does eliminate it of course. I also minimized the effect if focus was set to registered face recognition. But Manual is the only sure way I could find to totally get rid of the problem. Glad you pointed this out. It needs to be a topic for a vid.
Thanks for the vid. I just got a a6500 and 10-18 for vlogging but mainly for a new gimbal cam with the Crane for weddings. No more c100 on the Ronin M lol. Your video really simplified a couple of questions I've had about the new cam. Thanks Jason!
Hi Jason, to make AF work in a 4K there is one stupid sony thing have to be made: go to Menu/Network settings/ Ctrl W/Smartfon / - and turn it off. And Face detection should start to work. Let me know if it helps! Thanks for you reviews, they are very positive!
Hi Jason, My name is Tomer and I'm a big fan of your work. I know you are using Sony a6300 for filming and wanted to ask you advise with something I can't solve: I'm using video mode and setting all to manual. (Shutter, apature, white balance and iso) After filming and looking in the footage I can see that something is still changing (like the WB or exposure is on AUTO) and this is so annoying. Do you have any solution that may help? Thanks so much, Tomer
Thank you so much for these videos. I just bought an a6400 to use for my YT channel for filming and stills (I have a tech-oriented channel) and there is a huge learning curve for me to try and improve my videos' film/picture quality. If you have an accessories video (cages, monitors, etc) or suggestions please link me! Also your humor is rocking it! I'm laughing while I learn. Also if you can suggest any lenses I should use, also would appreciate it. I got the Sony 35mm 1.8 (in addition to the 16-50mm kit lens) and I like it but the field of view is rather narrow so I have to back pretty far away from something big like a PC case to get the entire thing in shot. Anyway, I'm rambling. Thank you again!
I have Sigma 160-600 adapted to sony and i was SERIOUSLY impressed with how well it focused during an airshow(my first shoot with it) never really had an issue except when something really close came into the focus area, i am DYING to get the sony 200-600 lens, but would be open to the sigma 60-600 if it came with native sony mount
Oh dont get me wrong I LOVE the 18-35 sigma, from the build to the look it gives - I just hate the AF noise it makes lol the deadly surprise of the sigma :P
Mark Norman How did you get on man? I’m a 70d user and my go to lens is the Sigma 18-35 too! I’m about to buy an A7iii but will want to use the Sigma for a while until I buy into Sony glass! I’m a film guy mostly.
Could you make a more in depth video concerning Focusing? How to use each one (shooting & showing examples of shoot). Not for video but just when it comes to photography. LOVE LOVE all your videos & appreciate all your knowledge 😊👍🏼
Man, I just spent an hour trying to figure out why my face wasn't in focus with my new Atomos. Lol. Moving on to zone focusing like you. Hope Sony fixes this.
Chris Featherstone do you experience the same trouble when monitoring via USB port? I was recording a video, using an A7iii + sigma art 35mm, monitoring on my computer and the camera focused on the microphone I was holding. Not on my face. 😖 I have lost some hours of work. Haha I believe the A7iii has this “problem” also when monitoring via USB port.
A long shot. . . Why does my 16-35mm EF lens hunt whenever I set autofocus, shooting video. Static shot, once it finds focus, which it does very fast, it hunts, constantly focusing and refocussing while recording, even if the nothing changes in the frame. Its driving me crazy. The only way Ive found to stop it, is to turn AF off. And that's not okay for me. Sony A73.
Jason! Loved the video. Subscribed to your channel to catch any future videos. I'm unable to switch Auto Object Framing on. When I try to, I get a message that says "This operation or setting not available as follows: Shoot Mode - Manual Exposure." Any ideas on how I could fix this? I'm on the A6300. I've tried with the kit lens (16-50), the Sony FE 50mm f1.8, the Sigma 30mm f1.4, and the Sony 55-210mm f4.5-6.3. Thanks in advance!
Hey Jon, tbh I don't use that feature. I looked up what it does and it seems like it auto crops your photo for the perfect framing so my best guess is, you might need switch it to some sort of "Auto" setting on the camera and it should fix itself! hope it works
Fantastic video Jason, +1 sub here! Quick q, you might be able to demistify this for me, does the continous AF on video work with Canon lenses mounted through a Commlite adapter? Trying to figure out if it's my adapter or the camera that's the issue here. Thanks!
Hi Jason - Very helpful upload buddy. Just got my Sony a6500 last week. I shoot food vlogs. I am little worried about the constantly changing auto-focus - I mean I may have to move around a lot while shooting - show my face - crowd - food plate etc one after another while shooting. I did a trial shoot but the time it takes to auto-focus from one object to another (automatically) is almost 3-4 seconds. While shooting I will not be able to manually re-press on the screen again & again to focus on the object being video-graphed. Can you please suggest what should I do so that my camera remains auto-focused on the overall view.
Hello from France Jason ! First of all thank you so much for your channel, even if I do not understand everything (I would say 80-90%) because I'm French, your videos are very helpful as there are no comparable channels in French ;-)) Very good job ! I'm just starting to shoot with a DSLR (A7III). I was on iPhone and Gopro, what a change ! So many parameters, setting to know before have nice footages. By the way I'm quite disappointed for wide shooting if Compare to my gopro. I bought a 12-24mm F4 and the focus is not as large as the gopro. With the Sony the first 1m/1,5meter are not in focus and the very far subjects are not very clear/sharp. Whatever the focus setting I used or Aperture (I went to F22). With gopro everything between 5cm/10cm (2-4 inches) and infinite is clear and footage seems to be sharper, netter, with more details. With the Sony I film without any picture profile for the moment, I try to take control of the beast first :-) But I expected have a really better quality (for very wide because for the rest it's not comparable of course). Maybe because of wrong setting but I try to figure out, any idea ?
Awesome Tip for the MF Auto Toggle! After watching this vid I immediately assigned the MF toggle to my RX100 VI, and RX 10 IV C buttons. No more fumbling around with the menu for the rx100 vi, and the hard to reach M switch on the front of the rx 10 iv!
Awesome video thanks for posting! It's hard to find any good info on this subject. What would you suggest for doing real estate videos (a6400 with the 10-18mm lens on a gimbal)? I'm guessing either Wide or Center would work? Thanks again.
This is very useful Jason. Thanks for that! :) I just recently started using - switch to manual focus when I record something that wont change focus, so I dont have the background bouncing back and front... But still some valid points here :)
Thank you for this video mate, I feel more safe now moving to Sony from Canon. I have a Canon 80D and I am hesitating between the a6500 and the new Sony A7iii. For commercial work and interview do you think the 6500 is capable enough or would you just recommend to bite the bullet and the best one.
Thank you, this was so helpful! I just got the a6400 and was confused about why touching to focus in Wide mode was converting to MF. Will have to play around more with the Flexible Spot mode. Thanks!
so for gimbal work I best use "center" area? thx for this awesome video , this was really helpfull. just have my A6000 for a few days and there are so many options to choose.
Hi Jason thank you so much your vedio help me alot to improve my photography, tons of love. Would you please create a vedio or help me on "lock on af" I have not found that option in 6400. Your quick rply will be highly appreciated.
Hi Jason please make a camera tutorial for people who dont show their faces or have voices. Just sounds. How can we work on focus on objects. How do you shoot a paintbrush dipping into paint professionally
my sonya6400 does this weird pulsing in and out focus when I have the camera on my face while recording. even if its on the tripod filming or i'm out vlogging. I have my face registered in the camera to see if it would help. would spot focusing be the best mode to use?
Hi Jason, I have been following your channel for a while now - as a non-professional A7RII user - and have my first question: how to focus properly when blogging alone with the A7RII I recorded a short intro video yesterday for a future hiking blog and noticed that the focus was sometimes lost as I was talking. I was using the Zeiss FE 35mm f/2.8, in AF-C mode, F 2.8, focus mode Wide. Does 2.8 make a too shallow focus plane ? Should I register my face for the Face Recognition Algorithm ? Did I move too much while talking ? Thanks for the help, and sorry if the question is obvious. I am a photographer doing its first experiences with video and vlogging.
