I've heard you can enjoy (meaning psychedelic effects) those mushrooms if you filter them thru a reindeer. Reindeers organs removes toxins and you can play a shaman after drinking the reindeers pee.
Wow you two set the bar super high for video production 🤩🤩 Never knew much about Finnish cuisine . And that first restaurant is sooo near and the future !
Thanks a lot, Jon! We weren't too familiar with Finnish food either before visiting and ended up having some of the best meals EVER. The sustainable restaurant blew my mind and gave me a lot of hope. Let's just say the future looks...delicious ;)
I'm so glad to hear that! We made other videos in Finland if you'd like to see more: bit.ly/finlandplaylist I know this reply is late but hopefully you agree it's better late than never! ;)
Thank you for posting such a beautiful video. I love the phrase 'sustainable hedonism'. I will certify be applying this to the lifestyle I'm trying to live by xx
But seriously, the food you featured looks fabulous and healthful, too! Glad to hear about the restaurant with traditional fermented food! Also, the concept of the environmentally friendly restaurant is brilliant (and looked delicious, too), but I think the place I'd most like to experience is the cafe by the water, with an open fire to keep cozy and roast your own sausage! Fun!
Great video as usual the the Ultimate restaurant is awesome the food looks amazing and I’m sure it was delicious.Thank you for yet another great video . Bon voyage.
Omg girl..my kind of foodie video favorites!! I so wish I had been there to enjoy with you guys, but I was vicariously!! Y..U..M..M all the way, and very Interesting points included. Thanks dear!! 😍🥂
You probably meant to say best foods that you guys experienced ;) There is A LOT more and even better and exciting than in this video. Love your videos, especially editing and shooting is top notch! BTW hi from Helsinki :)
haha well there's always more to try and of course our tastes are subjective - that's the fun of it to me! I'd love to hear more of your favourite spots so we can try next time :) And thanks so much! Really glad to know you're enjoying our videos - hi to you in Helsinki! Please have something tasty for us :)
This seems to be a very interesting place, I hope I can visit sometime in the future. Seeing and sharing places like this is why I love traveling and make videos so much! And please keep up the great job! Subscribed!!
Linnankellari literally means Castle Cellar, just in Finnish the word castle has the secondary meaning of Prison, Jailhouse, Slammer etc. - a product of the medieval practicalities: the prisoners of importance were locked in the castles. There were less than million Finns until the beginning of the 19th century (maybe that number was reached before too - 18th cent. had many wars dropping down the population). And so, in this case, yeah: Jailhouse Cellar is the proper interpretation. Both for someone who doesn't know the history of the place, the name sounds more fancy - the word castle has always that majestic air also in Finnish - be it you're a prisoner or not.
Thank you for making great videos. Your explanations are fantastic and definitely a cut above most other channel. Your hard work shone through your videos :) On the restaurants you may want to add $$$ or web sites or other useful data like hours, Formal, Informal, etc ... Keep up with the good work

Booked Helsinki for this July and love to research restos in advance so this video was super helpful! I Google'd Ultima but I can't find the website so maybe after the pandemic it shut down permanently? At the end of the video you had mentioned about Moomin Cafe. I grew up watching Moomin so hoping you can share the link that takes me to your video with the description of the cafe!
Hey Tamami! That's wonderful that you're planning a Helsinki trip for July. To me, the planning and anticipation are half the fun. Something to look forward to! Unfortunately I believe Ultima has been permanently closed and/or changed its name/stripes to something else. This is what comes up now when you google it restaurantfiasco.fi/en/menu/ and it says "by Ultima" - may require a little digging! Here's the link to our video where we visit the Moomin Cafe (and other cool places): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CdOnrLpnz2Y.html. They're here: instagram.com/eileenaldis/ Hope you have an amazing time! ❤️
@@EileenAldis thanks so much Eileen! I can't wait to see the rest of the videos and yes, I did notice Ultima turned into an Italian place called Restaurant Fiasco? by Ultima. Such a bummer and I must say you and Marc were lucky to have been there before it closed since it was a cool concept that they had. I noticed you have a LOT of travel videos so I am going to check out to see if you have any for Copenhagen, Oslo, Bergen and Stockholm since we have booked flights to those cities too. Thanks!
Hi Marcelo! Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed this video. :) We loved Helsinki and kept extending our stay. We made a lot of other videos in Finland if you'd like to see more: bit.ly/finlandplaylist I've never been to Brazil but I REALLY want to visit 💗
Hi! Döner is Turkish but it's widely available in Germany and that's where I had it the first time when I was living there. We've made a whole series about Turkish food if you'd like to see (it's so delicious) - they're here: bit.ly/turkeyyoutubeplaylist :)
@@alphamariatomy142 Finnish and Swedish are the official languages, but you should get service in English as well. Majority of the people there speak English rather well.
I have to ask about the drone shots. Did you ask permission from TrafiCom about flying over Cafe Regatta? It’s an official no fly zone, due to the prime minister living nearby. If not, you need to check permissions for certain areas. This can lead to serious for the local drone community, which we work very closely with.
5:43 hyvä tapa kusettaa turisteja, asetellaan vihreä vitun kuula hienolle alustalle ja pulitetaan siitä 15€ :DD "traditional finnish coffee" oli myös varmaan jotain juhlamokkaa :D huutista
Thanks to the author of the channel for this fascinating video! It is interesting to see how people live in other countries! It is very important to know foreign languages on such trips. I would like to recommend to all travelers a practical guide to learning foreign languages by Yuriy Ivantsiv " Polyglot Notes. Practical tips for learning foreign languages". This book contains a lot of useful tips on how to learn a foreign language for tourists, students, entrepreneurs and anyone who needs a foreign language in life. There are a lot of good tips on how to solve problems with the language from beginner to advanced level of language learning. It turns out that the traveler only needs to know a few dialogues and you can easily travel around the world! You don't have to spend a lot of time to fully learn a foreign language, you just need to learn what you can use when you travel. I wish everyone exciting travels!
Hi Eileen, Good video, but I'm having trouble hearing you. Have you considered muting the background noise and then adding in audio commentary, later. It gives me a headache to try to listen to you. It's like you are having to shout over the background noise, everywhere you go in these videos. So, it just gets worse and worse. In some of these cases, you try to increase the volume, so you can hear the person speaking, and you increase the background noise, as well, so you still have a hard time hearing them. Because, your video is so noisy, I feel like I'm watching a rap video. OK, I turned the volume all the way down and hit the CC button, so I could listen to it more peacefully.
Döner Harju.. That place was to be named Döner Kallio (nowadays the most pop part of t he city) but the district where the restaurant is located is actually Harju, so the owners 'had' to name it Harju (a ridge, instead of a rock, Kallio). I know, Not even a fun fact.
Yes, it's one of my favourites! Had to recommend it as we really enjoyed this place in Helsinki. Any excuse to eat Turkish food, as you'll likely have seen in our other videos :)
Another great compilation, all looks really interesting and tasty. Especially like the sustainable restaurant, such a cool idea. Never would have thought you grow potatoes like that. Love the mushrooms growing from the coffee grounds too.
Thanks, Shaun! Isn't it fascinating? Seeing what they do gives a lot of hope for the future. Seeing the potatoes growing in air is something I'll never forget and the fact that the leftover coffee makes those beautiful mushrooms has a touch of magic. Is there anything coffee can't do?! ;)
Oh my....it's all so delicious. The sustainable food restaurants are absolutely fantastic. The whole world should be catching up and doing the same thing. I also love the little restaurant with cinnamon buns, So "cool" to stay warm with a blanket so you can sit outside. Also can't imagine the prison dining room. Ouch, That's interesting! Thanks for showing us all these awesome spots. Right on as usual Eileen and Marc.
Isn't that cafe cozy?! The inside is tiny and warm and really cute as well, but we couldn't resist the water view. Lots of birds as well who were interested in our cinnamon buns ;) And the sustainable restaurant is really inspiring and gives hope for the future of food. 🌍💚
OMG, how do You find these places! Love these videos and keep seeing new places to visit in my old hometown. Thanks, keep up the good vibes and good work❤
@@EileenAldis , I really do enjoy these videos. You are both so nice and its evident that you really put some serious efort and skills in making these. 👌 I moved to Pori on the west coast of Finland, known for Finlands finest and longest natural sandy beach Yyteri and vivid music festivals throughout the summer, such as Pori Jazz.
@@MrsMilli Oh goodness, just seeing that I missed your lovely reply! Thank you so much 💕Pori sounds like a cool place with its big beach and music festivals. I hadn't heard of it before so thanks for letting me know. There is still so much of Finland we'd love to explore. Sending best wishes :)
I love when both of you smile with each other. ♥️ I also like how you deliver your comments in general and describe details of your activities, as I have seen with your other travels. Specifically when you "kinda dislike" something, I mean no OA comments. Stay humble. ♥️
Wow! A whole video about food! YUM !!! The dishes served everywhere you went, were art in their own right……Beautiful presentations! I LOVED that you wore STRIPES to the PRISON restaurant…..Such an on-point fashionista..!! The oyster bowling ball was intriguing too… :- P ….Gotta get to Finland !
I thought you'd like this one! Art is definitely the word. Such fantastic presentation and delicious flavours. I also loved learning about sustainable dining. Wow. Imagine coffee being turned into mushrooms - incredible. Glad you appreciate it too :)
'Finnjävel' is kind of a hateful slur against Finns, or was in the 60's and 70's Sweden, but as you can see we just like it. (I have nothing to do with the place in this video.)
@@EileenAldis Oh noes, cardinal mistake big no no no, fika is Swedish expression (our beloved mortal enemies) ;) Great video yet again, Greetings from Western Siberia, aka North Karelia , most well known for our pies (Karelian pies) ;)

@@NobodyFIN Oh, well......now i feel a kind of looney.....Sooo its nothing to do with Fika after all, oh joy am I relieved to learn this ;) Thanks for the correction.
It's funny because sometime I love your voice over episodes because of the fun way you tell your stories, also maybe they remind me of Woody Allen films, charming and sweetly ironic :) You guys always win us over with the foodie discoveries, but I'm thinking with your positive attitude you could make Antarctica cuisine interesting. Question; is there such a thing? Lol Thanks for another inspiring episode, James and Kim
Cafe Regatta is cute, but SO overrated. I went with my Japanese friends and they were clearly disappointed. All of the promised vegan stuff (2 options) were defrozen in the microwave, tasted super dry and pre-made, pretty sure they hadn't baked them to begin with. We also had to wait in line for an hour, and the smoke from the grill spread all over the place, we were coughing at our table. The whole place was full, which meant only 1 bathroom for 200 people.
You were clearly there at an unlucky time. I've NEVER seen 200 people there. Did all the 200 arrive on a fleet of tourist busses? It's clearly not a place meant for so many customers at the same time. Even a half that would be far too many, I think. I'm a vegetarian myself, and often go for vegan options so I get the frustration with poor vegan food. If you advertise vegan options, then you really should go to the trouble of making some good vegan food; there are plenty of recipes. Haven't really ordered anything at the Cafe Regatta apart from those cinnamon buns. The smoke is inevitable, given the grill, and it really depends on the weather and how windy it is, and which way the wind blows, whether it is an inconvenience or not. Usually, there are not so many customers that you couldn't switch places if the smoke was blowing towards you. As I said, I think you were quite unlucky. There is, by the way, a row of public bathrooms near the Cafe, close to the Sibelius Monument. I get the feeling that if you were part of a tour, the tour operator hadn't really thought things through, bringing so many people to such a small cafe, and not letting you know of the bathrooms close by. I live close to the cafe, and often walk by it. There's rarely more than maybe a dozen customers there, and if I saw many more than that, I wouldn't even consider going there.
Hi Ed! Good to know - thanks! All the places are linked in the description box if you're interested. We often put prices if you'd like to see our other food videos (here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5mvUtk7sPlM.html). :)
Hello! Great video, but I have one question regarding the weather in Helsinki. Because we want to go on a vacation in august, and we really like the idea of visiting this beautiful Nordic city, do you know what the weather is like during the beginning of this month? Is it rainy, cloudy or sunny? Thank you in advance!
Hi! That's great you're planning a trip! We haven't been to Helsinki in August but I believe the temperatures at that time would be between around 15 and 20 degrees? Great sightseeing weather, in my opinion. We visited in more the fall and got away with light jackets, as you can see. I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time! We've made a bunch of videos about Helsinki and Finland if you're like to see more while you plan your visit. They are here if you're interested (including plays to stay/eat etc): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0VpSSAwyMPQ.html :)
Hi Heather! Yes, some of them are quite pricey, that's true. But I'd also take a döner, cinnamon bun, or bowl of salmon soup any day ;) I also love to cook. If you have an amazing recipe for Finnish salmon soup you don't mind sharing I'd love to know. I'm sure you know how to make some great dishes we enjoyed ❤️🇫🇮
