I think these are now the best on the market with the new boom mic feature. Check out the tests here. The Jabra Evolve 2 85 will be released on the 20th of july. Call Quality 6:00 This includes with and without boom mic Audio Test 8:42 ANC and Transparency Mode Test 8:05
Many thanks for your review it is very good; I am looking to buy a headset to wear a good portion of the day and I am uncertain if this is the right one vs. the evolve 75, so I wanted to know what is your opinion. If you had to be sitting in a relatively quiet environment with a couple phone calls all day using one or the other, which one would you choose?
Is this still the only USB-C and Boom mic alternative? Can the headset be used directly with usb-cable to a computer? (to bypass bluetooth delay while gaming)
@EBPMAN Tech Reviews - I have to say this is one of the best reviews I've ever seen - you are exceptionally comprehensive, and the trouble you have taken to undertake noise DB level metering in between test and show us - is just out of this ballpark! well done man!
Great review, good format and pacing, tone and attitude / approach. Better than the three reviews I already watched that looked like they had higher production quality. Good stuff
Waited over a month for these, canceled and ended up ordering the Evolve2 65 (no ANC and fewer mics). Got lucky they were in stock, Jabra sent them next day air. Not to mention I ordered late in the day. Was jaded about to get the Sony’s but glad I got the Jabra’s. Same 40 mm drivers, on ear vs over ear for the 85’s. It’s been less than a week since I received them, have had numerous calls and tested with music. Satisfied with my purchase so far. Ohh yeah, and the busy light helps when working from home. Charging stand looks and works well.
First Jabra Evolve2 85 comprehensive review. Thanks Comparing to the Sony 1000MX3, call quality is a huge improvement and connection to two devices is a major plus. But the active noise cancellation is no match to the Sony. Other features like pause / start / mute feature when cups are removed from ears is great for overhead headset
I have evolve 75 and I tried a pair of these out, constant complaints about mic quality. People preferred me to use the cup mics rather than the boom mic but both were a serious down grade from the evolve 75. Please Jabra give us an over the ear version of the evolve 75 because the mic on the evolve 85 isn't cutting it!
Agreed. The Evolve2 75 mic quality is fantastic but having watched several 85 videos I'll stick w/ my 75s (and possibly buy some Bose700s for over-the-ear use - less pinching/clamping pressure.)
Interesting, I expected the call quality to be better. Sounds like the BlueParrot is still the go-to for maximum noise cancellation :-(. Really wanting someone to dethrone them. Could you do a call comparison with the Jabra Evolve2 and the BlueParrot so I can confirm? Really want a professional noise-cancelling bluetooth headset that can also do well for music.
Hi. Thanks for your reviews. Which is the best with a great mic (noise cancelling) for work on home or in a noise place? Thanks in advance for your reply.
Do you know of a way to make Evolve2 85 clamp less? That's the only thing that is bothering me. It doesn't get too hot or anything, but it's just too tight. It gives me headaches very often. I couldn't find any different ear cushions nor any way to decrease the tight clamping position. Thoughts?
just ordered these so lets see . Its from my work account will be used primarily for work but i need a good set for when i go play basketball as well so hope its sturdy on the ears
Thank you. Excellent review. Question for you. I want to buy something for working from home which will serve as headphones for listening to music and also serve as headphones to use for connecting to my iPhone and PC for meetings and conferences hosted through the typical applications (i.e. Zoom, WebEx, GoToMeeting, etc). These seem nice but also I hear the Bose 700 or Sony XM3/XM4 are great. For my use case, is this better than Sony or Bose for purpose of client conference calls (keeping exterior noise down?) I will generally use these at the house but work from home and kids are currently not in school so looking for something nice. I presume all of these are better than the Apple Airpod pros? Can you recommend? Thanks!
Great review as always. Would you happen to know if if the USB C bluetooth adapter works just as well as the normal USB adapter? Reason being is that I use both Macbooks for personal work and Windows devices (with USB C and USB A) for work and i'd like to be able to use it for both work and generally too
I loved the review, they look great, I have one quick question, the laptop I use for work does not have Blue tooth enabled, I'm currently using a Plantronics which are connected via USB A cable to the computer, I'm wondering if the Jabras could be connected using the USB C to USB A cable or via the 3.5 mm cable so I could be able to work with them? Thanks!
Only missed a sound quality test with it wired (either through USB or 3.5mm). It generally improves mic's sound quality further. Thank you for the review!
We do range test on most of the popular headsets. I was looking for one of this model and didn't see it yet. I put this on the list now so we will create it soon.
Purchased this 2 weeks ago. But very disappointed in the call quality; they are supposed to push your voice from the mic, into the headset with “side tone”. My voice is muffled, it goes up and down, or not picked up at all. I would not buy again for the price. This review convinced me to buy the product. If you want this headset for calls, I’d get something else. My AirPod pros are 100 better.
Working from home still test driving Evolve2 85 380c. I’m impressed with the many advertised features so far however the red busy-light doesn’t work on my Dell PC windows 64 bit w/ Teams and Fuze. It works on my iPhone calls but not on my PC. 🤷🏾♂️
The 75t are great. I use them too. These are in a different price point and have massive battery and call quality improvement over the 75t. Comes down to how you plan to use them.
Hey, I noticed you said that you used this headset for gaming, could you please let me know if you connected this to a PC or a console? And if you connected this to a console, which one was that?
dear Ebpman , i own jabra 65t true wireless earbuds and when i wear them for like 10 minutes my ears become kind of wet inside and the buds start to move and then fall especially while running please tell me if you have some kind of solution or advice
Will I sound better on a call if I use this Jabra Evolve2 85 wired (plugged in to the PC using audio wire 3,5 mm)? Could you test that? Will there be a difference? If yes could you do a comparison (mic tests in both quiet and noisy env) of Jabra, Bose and Sony but this time all plugged in using audio wire?
Thank you very much for the mic test. Definitely work the upgrade from the elite 85h. Not the evolve 85t have better mic quality, but also a much richer sound profile.
I bought a Technics EAH F70N for music and some calls and a 75t, for some reason the 75T died on me. I need it more for making calls mostly and then listening to music and chilling. Was considering the Jabra evolve 75, now came across this video. Is the switch in price point worth it?
Do you know of a lower costing over ear headset has a gaming mic like boom... Meaning the microphone is right infront of your mouth. That is bluetooth AND most importantly talkthrough. Meaning I can hear my voice while on a call through the speakers. I am hard of hearing and have tried several but cannot hear my voice. I end up screaming on the phone and my voice slurs. I heard these Jabra 85 have talkthrough so you can hear yourself but I really want a headset that has a longer boom mic. Thanks
Really like your reviews. However, since these are primarily intended for PC/Mac use, shouldn’t you test them also in those environments (e.g. Teams)? I think a simple phone call test is not enough for this type of product. Also, when the Bose NC 700 UC are out would be great to have a comparison. Great channel!
I use jabra for phones too. Have for years and they work on tablets too. That's the great thing about Bluetooth. On the tests I get soo many requests I try to cover it all in one video and just do the index thing to allow you to jump around based on your preference. But yes when bose uc comes out I will compare too
@@ebpman i listen to music while om a big rubber ducky, in the middle of a big pool, surrounded by hot girls all around. I think you should test it in that real-life environment, no simulation for a few days and come back (if you dare) with your review,😄
Thanks for the review mate. Compared to the Elite 85H? Is there a difference in audio call quality? Or better can you do a call quality comparison video against Elite 85H? Cheers!
Im not sure, but i think since the evolve is more focused on productivity, while the 85h is more focused on music, id guees the 85h, but the evolve has a usb dongle so...... Personaly i have my 85h on a sorta voice mode, wich makes music great for me, but its all customizable on the app
Hi! I remembered you're a frequent business traveller in your other videos. In terms of call quality and noise cancellation, how do these compare to the Bose 700?
@@ebpman Hello, can you share your experience of using an UC version with MS Teams? I am waiting for USB C/MS version which is taking forever but UC version is available now. Thanks
The UC Ver May not have full call control as MS ver but it’s just work. While with the MS ver they are Certified for Teams which means you have Teams button and call control and future compatible ( if any) with new firmware to work with MS. Hope that help
Excellent review. I am just wondering what is the opinion on the beige color. I was looking for black but it is out of stock. Anyone using it and does this color look odd?
@@nathangraham5213 kinda doubt firmware update would fix this. If 3.5mm jack supports TRRS then mic would be connected up and it should be ready to go with the proper TRRS cable. They only included a TRS cable thus so far we can at least conclude that there will be no microphone support with the included cable from that hardware component standpont. If the USB-C port is wired up to provide audio support I’d be impressed but its probably wired for power only
Hi, have a question - would you rather buy Evolve2 85 or Elite 85h plus Jabra Link? Is there much difference except the boom mic (but possibility to save more than 100 bucks)? Thanks for reply!
I really prefer the boom mic. I have them both and I can tell you I always grab the evolve over the 85h. Subconscious choice I guess. Boom is better imo
The Engage 75 is the only Jabra headset that doesn't clamp on my head too tight. I've been using the Evolve2 85 for a couple of weeks and I really like it! But I don't think I'll keep them. Clamps too hard... Gives me a headache. I need something that I can wear for 8-12 hours a day without tiring me. Considering switching to Bose 700 but without a USB-A connection like the Evolve2 85 it makes it more difficult.
Found the soon to be released Bose NCH UC 700 which adds the USB-A connection to use S a softphone which is quite helpful. Tempted to make the switch but I really love the Evolve2 85 features (like the charging dock, busy light indication, 37 freaking hours of use, wearing on/off pausing and resuming music, and the physical buttons. The Bose touch sensitive controls are quite lacking. Sometimes it takes 3-4 attempts of the double tap to answer the dang call. That drives me crazy.
Great review! I am looking for a perfect headset Microsoft version and I think I already found it! Can I ask the title of the songs you played at the end? Thanks! 😀
With returning to the office I'm looking for a Bluetooth headset to replace the wired set I use for home. I've been eying up the 85H vs Bose QC vs Sony XM4 and based on everything started leaning towards the 85H. I use 85T earbuds for over a year and found the mics a little lacking for calls. Based on many videos the 85H seems on par with those around it which made me look at the evolve2 85. Does that boom mic justify double the price of the 85H? It seemed to make a bit of difference in voice clarity but I'm struggling to quantify it. Any advice or conclusions?
Out of interest... Compare the Jabra Evolve 2 85 vs Corsair HS80 one is for productivity and the other gaming, They are from two worlds but a cross blend. Sound quality and mic quality is next level on the HS80. For 1/3 of the price.
Thanks for this detailed test! Audio quality is king in an office environment so providing real world samples of the mic and speakers is gold. :-) But it shows one thing: Jabra doesn't know how to HD audio. We have the Jabra Evolve 75 at work and the microphone audio quality is very compressed. No match to high quality office headsets, even my old Jabra Biz 2400 has a better mic audio quality. I guess that's the price of NC and the Bluetooth connection...
Jabra Evolve 85 Bose 700, and Microsoft Surface 2 headphones. This is in call quality. In ANC and Audio I would add Sony 1000 XM3 as top, followed But they are not under 200.
Can you hear yourself through the ear cover when you are talking during a meeting? I return the Savi 8220 since I barely hear myself when I am talking in meetings.
Great review. Thanks. I’m trying to find some great headphones for Webex calls. All the headphones that I’ve tried so far give me a horrible sensation when talking.
What would be a little bit of a cheaper alternative to these? I need to find a good pair of headphones that won’t pick up the noise around me at the office.
I am planning to buy Evolve2 85 or Bose NC 700 or Sony XM3. My reason is Taking calls and listen music and Focus. I have a 3 year old child, Even the doors closed lot of disturbance to focus on my work and call. I am following your reviews. I ruled out sony because of the call quality. But it is hard for me to choose between Bose and Jabra. Please help me. Abort from price which once is good?. I need the noice cancellation should eliminate other persons voice around me. Please your or any once opinion greatly appreciated. Please at the earliest. My Samsung Level u have issues and need to buy one at the earliest.
If taking calls is your priority, go with Jabra. If listening to music and anc is important, go with Bose or Sony. It sucks they can't put a decent mic in 400 dollar headset.
I went with the Bose700 and I am sending them back. For some reason my bluetooth isn't detecting the headphone as a headset. Tried to find a solution online, only to find more issues such as the mic not working and sounding horrible. Seems like Bose700 is really only meant for mobile. They have a UC version with a dongle, but can't find a place to buy them.
The fact that it sounds better and more natural without the boom means that I will not be purchasing it. The boom mic should offer superior sound but it doesn’t
@@ebpman I just went to Bestbuy to test the NC 700, it is good but does not match the QC35 in my opinion. then I tested the Sony XM3 and oh my god, sound is like a live concert and the comfort surpass the QC35 to me. I think I will wait for the XM4 that should be released later this year with multiple bluetooth connection and hopefully a better microphone. The Jabra looks nice but this is not the kind of product that we can easily purchase and return. I have a pair of Poly 8200 UC that I am trying to return because they have too shallow earcup and it is not as easy as Amazon or Bestbuy. anyways, good job on the review.
@@Zykl01982 I just ordered a set from Office Depot online for $300ish. Should be simple enough to return in store if there are mic audio issues which some other reviewers have found.
It seems to me that the Bose & Sony are primarily for listening to music and taking a call with the mic is just a "nice to have", whereas the Jabra is designed specifically to be a headset for chat. So I think it really depends on your usage. I have the XM3s and they're fine for listening and OK for calls, but I prefer the quality of a cheapish wired logitech headset for (office) chat. I would consider these if they weren't so expensive in the UK.
If you are going to use a bluetooth headset with a laptop always get one that has a USB dongle option. The Bose 700 UC and the Poly Voyager Focus 2 UC are a couple of nice options to look at if you're using the headset on a computer for business calls and/or video meetings.
Just got this today and... well have to say I'm disappointed. With this money the sound quality should be much better. My old Sony WH-CH700N beats this easily with sound quality, especially with bass. Of course the boom is nice, but even that is strange... make a boom not a integrated boom like, because people who choose boom wants a boom. Over all..with this price (I paid over 400€) avoid.
@@ebpman Unfortunately, the mic is not working when wired (jack). The same happens with Bose NC 700. That means losing the mic cancelling features when wired. Do you know any (good) alternative headsets that mic (with noise cancelling) is still working when wired?
I use binural studio grade mics to record in a lossless format. If you look at our other back to back audio tests you can hear differences. But as you can expect it will be limited by your speakers. But the difference is there
