This video will show you everything you need to know about repairing your Samsung Galaxy S4 phone with loca glue. Once you get the glass off of your phone, the rest is pretty easy. The trick is to try and not let any bubbles get under your screen when you are laying down the top glass. Try to avoid letting glue seep up into the ear piece area or down into the home button. If glue does get up there, you can usually clean it off from the back with a paper towel and Alcohol. But its best to just avoid it anyway.

Years ago I was part of a testing division of a optical lens manufacturer and we were working with plastic lens bonding using loca glue and a machine that held and cured the glue at the same time and the best method for applying the glue was 5% of the required glue be applied to one side and the rest applied to other we also noted that it required far less glue than I've been seeing people use in the tutorials it's a fluid that is intended to be applied so thin that just a cc or two is required also I'd apply the bulk of the glue to the new glass and cure it face down on the light source let gravity help prevent the issues

Just did mine last night, your instructions work very well. I HIGHLY recommend people also watch the glass removal, teardown and tips videos linked in your description. I used wire for the first 1/3 and switched to a card (an Uno #9 to be precise). I much prefer the card over the wire, as it does the same job but you don't have to fumble with the wire between heatings. If I would do one thing different, I'd put a little extra bit of glue in the center of the screen. Having a little extra glue to push out the sides is REALLY handy if you have bubbles to work out. If not, you can work it out the side anyway. Not saying your video was misleading, I just didn't put enough in the middle and had three bubbles to work out. Annoying. The best thing is instead of paying somebody to do it, I did it myself, plus I now have a UV light, IR thermometer and a heat gun - all of which will come in handy at parties.

Jesse Connell Heck yes. Im glad you got it all figure out. Its a complex repair. And thanks for the tips! Its good for other people to read so they know what to expect in the future. RU-vid is great for learning new things. I too, love using the cards more than the wire. I exclusively use cards now.

Thanks for your video! I was able to successfully replace the screen using the LOCA glue. This was my second replacement of the screen on this phone. The first time I only used the double sided tape. That repair didnt last long so I thought I should try this other method. It was a bit nerve wracking but it worked and I suspect this will help keep the phone intact much longer than the last repair. Thanks for this tutorial! Only had one tiny bubble first try. FYI: for those who want to attempt this but don't have a UV light. I purchased a cheap $9 UV flashlight at Wal-Mart and it worked great!

Can a regular alcohol wipe work? I used an alcohol wipe to clean the screen digitizer when replacing my samsung core glass. After cleaning, the screen doesn't work anymore with touch. Could the alcohol wipe have messed it up? I didn't use the uv glue. Can the isse be fixed if I add the glue?

I have fixed several moto x phones and find that the glass removal process is manageable. This video seems doable as I am quite familiar with UV glue, my only question is that for this particular phone, when the uv glue seeps into the home button, and the light is placed on it, what keeps it from sealing up completely? And would it be more wise to just go ahead and completely remove all parts of this phone to ensure no excess glue goes anywhere you don't want it to?

Did the same exact process and it was too much glue. It went on top where face camera is and aslo hit where the lcd is attached with flex cable and in about a week touch screen was going haywire. When i would wake screen it would act as if being touched. I advice for little less glue and clear taping top part before placing glass, once dry pull tape out. Thats how i did the next one without any problems.

Awesome video. Your RU-vid channel is a deadly resource. Would the average customer be able to appreciate the difference between the glue method and the tape method? Also, are there any devices for which you should ONLY use the UV method, and not the tape method?

Jerry, you're awesome! Perhaps you're the man for my question. I repaired a Galaxy S4 i9505 glass only and reused the original LCD. I removed the LCD from the middle frame because I dislike the idea of liquid glue getting stuck on the inside of the phone. I used a mold and everything worked fine, except for the bronze aluminum foil on the rear of the phone that doesn't stick well anymore. This causes the glued lcd + glass to not stick very well to the frame of the phone now. So my question is: Is this aluminum foil vital to the phone functionality or can it be removed or replaced by something available in stores? Many thanks in advance for reading and responding! ;)
@Chris-go9ti
@Chris-go9ti 9 лет назад
AnarcheDiver that is what makes the touch work. It will still work even if it is not pretty. Did you buy some cellphone two way tape? Good job on removing the lcd. few do because it is a 100 dollar mistake if it cracks. You could honestly buy about 20 glass screens and experiment with the glue amounts , little to more, until you get the exact amount vs the price of a new lcd.

Nice, but maybe I'll stick to the dual sided method myself. It's true the LOCA does make your phone sturdier but if experience told me anything, if it's going to break there's nothing you can do about it, gravity always wins. On the plus sign, if I were to fix a phone that was secured with dual sided tape, it'll be way easier to remove the glass again. Nice video, subbed.
@zerousen
@zerousen 8 лет назад
The issue with this is that the air gap between the glass and the lcd/digitizer causes issues if you push on the screen slightly too hard. In my experience, at least with the S4, I've had to use LOCA glue in order to prevent this issue.
@veteranrepairshop5070
@veteranrepairshop5070 8 лет назад
***** yeah, I've heard of instances where that is happening. In such a case I'd do the same, but not all phones are like that.

I usually have the patience and sense of things to do well at such tasks. Something I've found useful in similar 'projects'; I have found disposable (so clean) hypodermic syringes and needles available at the local farm supply store. The smallest commonly available needle is 21G, which is pretty small and takes a lot of pressure to get anything with much viscosity through it. That said, it occurs to me it might prove helpful in controlling the amount of glue by using less and 'injecting' more as needed, especially at the top of the screen where too much glue getting in the upper components seems to be a common complaint. The obvious problems would be 1) is the glue too thick to be forced through a 21G needle? *One could use a 12G needle and syringe to 'suck' some LOCA into the syringe and then switch to the 21G to 'inject' it behind the glass.* 2) do you think there would be enough room to get a 21G needle behind the glass without scratching anything? A 21G is 0.03225 inch or 0.8192mm OD and 0.02025 inch or 0.514mm ID. 3) bubbles would obviously be more of an issue, but it seems like the biggest area of concern is at the top. The bottom and sides seem less prone to excess glue. I'd be interested in your thoughts on my idea here. Thanks for these videos.

Which one is the best glue for sealed lcd screen replacement with 3 type transparent glue, white glue, black glue? Which one is strong bond and harder to attach lcd screen. I always use black glue bcoz it so strong than transparent glue. Bcz black glue is hardener and can tolerant to heat than transparent glue is easy to melting down.

@JAYRAY00
@JAYRAY00 10 лет назад
With reference to glue around the home button, if glue gets around the home button then it is also likely that it's gotten into the soft keys next to it. If glue soaks into these, they will be ruined. Also excess glue seeping out around the sides means it will severly reduce the stickyness of the double sided adhesive border. You're doing ~10 phones a week and not getting customer returns/complaints?
@JerryRigEverything
@JerryRigEverything 10 лет назад
I normally use less glue than is shown in the video. And no, I still have not had any complaints. if you use too little glue, and have to press hard on the screen to get it to flow to the edges, it puts stress on the LCD after you cure the UV glue. So even a little drop would crack the screen.

I got a question... Just took my S4 from repair few hrs ago and I noticed that my fingers are getting sticky... Then I saw glue is coming out from my home button. I've cleaned it up with paper towels and glass cleaner but it constanly leaks from the home button and now it started to leak from the sides as well... Is that a normal thing after screen replacement? Should I wait and get rid of that extra glue somehow (now it's leaking less I think), or I should complain? Btw, replacement cost was around 35EUR which is around $40, that's cheap I guess? By the way awesome job! Very well explained, wish I saw your video earlier! Shucks! :) Keep up with the great work!!

Sarmamusakagulash You did get a good deal on that repair. That is way cheap. If they use too much glue, it is normal for it to leak out a bit. If it hasnt stopped yet, you could probably take it back and have them clean it out a little better.

Thanks for this great video. I've been repairing phones using double sided tape only for a couple of days now but I'm going to make the jump to using loca glue. I have a question though, would it be a good idea to first remove the lcd from the phone by disassembling it before putting the glue on it and attaching the new glass to it, to prevent glue from leaking into the phone? Or does that seem unnessecary to you?
@JerryRigEverything
@JerryRigEverything 10 лет назад
UndisclosedGuitarGuy That is actually a REALLY good idea. And the best way to do it... BUT the only reason that I dont do it, is that you risk breaking the LCD... Its a pretty fragile little guy and its glued in pretty tight. So it just depends on how confident you feel in doing the whole repair. Good question.

Zack my man! I have question for you my handsome bald man; I recently purchased whitestone's domeglass for my samsung note 8. I was using one already and I needed to swap the glass cause it had cracked. Anyways there was some problems during the installation and long story short the phone was COATED in that glue. Now I cleaned my phone with alcphol cloth, microfiber cloth, tissue and some water. Now it seems like I didn't get all the glue off since my domeglass surface feels rough and my phone isn't as slick, but rather a bit rough. What would you suggest tp get the glue off? I tried wiping it off with alcohol clot but it didn't do anything and now I am thinking of nail polish remover but I wouldn't want to try it in case something goes wrong and I ruin my phone.

First off, awesome video! I replaced two S4's using this method and it worked fantastically. However, I have run into a small problem regarding air bubbles showing up AFTER the glass had been placed. Everything looked fine before going to bed that night, but the next day some bubbles showed up along one side and in the corner. My guess is that maybe I squeezed out a little too much of the loca glue through the sides and upon setting there was a little separation. Any tips on somehow being able to get those bubbles out? I was thinking about heating it up and trying to squeeze the air back out, but I fear just letting more air in as well. Any advice would be great. Thank you!

Dustin VanCour If you are using loca glue to hold the glass down... its possible that the glue just hasnt cured enough. (Its not totally dry.) Maybe your UV light isnt strong enough for the 2-3 Minute cure? Id leave it on for 5-6 minutes to see if that will completely dry the glue.

Monica Ervin Yes actually, I have used tape to 'contain' the glue in the past. Its not fool proof though, as excess glue can still seep over the tape.... just try not to get too glue happy and you should be ok.

How many phones can you do with x amount of loca glue? If glass is say 6 bucks and you need x amount of glue per phone what is the cost ratio for glue and glass..also noticed you didn't use a mould. I am considering picking up a vaccum lcd separator but not sure it would be that much more profitable, aside from the newest screens the lcd and glass can be picked up fairly cheep even a 5s like 30 bucks not sure on galaxy s5 ...sure the iphone 6 or newest are pricy ..ideally would love to make clear 100 bucks a day though not sure if in a city of 2million if that many phones break.

Cory M Sounds like you are on the right path man, With the right amount of advertising you can easily clear 100 bucks a day, even without 'glass only' repairs.

My first attempt at this. I didn't have too many bubbles and found them quite easy to chase to the edge, HOWEVER, I didn't use enough LOCA to fill the gap and air kept leaking back in the sides! Now I'm trying to figure out a way to recover from this......sigh!

Hello, I need a little help, Can I use this glue to paste a screen to frame of phone? If you understand me, I don't need to stick digitizer with LCD, just to make screen harder not to have "breathing effect"? I wanna do that on Xperia Z, so if anyone can suggest me will this work, because edges of screen aren't transparent.

Hi, thanks, nice video. I have a question for you, i fix an s4 with loca glue, the lcd got a stain on one corner now, somebody told me that , that hapens becouse the glue touch the side of the lcd . is that posible? Or maybe some of the glue wasnt dry enough and after start using the phone stars geting like that? Start like a very small stain and it got biger over time. Waiting for your response. Thank you.
@JerryRigEverything
@JerryRigEverything 9 лет назад
jorge m Ya, it could be glue seeping into the LCD, it doesnt happen normally. There might have been a minor cut into the digitizer when you were taking it off. Your screen should still work normally though.

You need to bond AMOLED and glass away from the housing with the alignment mold or a spare scrap s4 bezel.
@JerryRigEverything
@JerryRigEverything 10 лет назад
Not on the S4's and S3's when you have the bezel already in place. Its not worth trying to pry out the fragile LCD.
@thumbstarrepair
@thumbstarrepair 10 лет назад
JerryRigEverything respectfully disagree. You want uncured glue still residing inside the phone?
@JerryRigEverything
@JerryRigEverything 10 лет назад
To each their own. I do about 10 phones a week, and as long as you put the correct amount of glue down on the LCD you wont get any seeping out the edges. But if its worth your time, money, and risk, you can always pull the LCD out and do it your way.

@JerryRigEverything

If he only put it down with the sticky tape it would be easy to pull up and use LOCA glue on. Or just wait till it breaks again and then use the LOCA.

Hey Jerry! I have an issue with a 4S. I did the power & prox cable replacement. Now the button clicks again, but still doesn't work. The prox sensor doesn't either now. It's also draining the battery very, very quickly. The cable itself looks fine, I don't think I tore it anywhere, what do you think is causing this / any suggestions?
@JerryRigEverything

Its hard to say. It might just be a bad cable. Older electronics get finicky sometimes.

Anyone know what glue to use in order to attach an opaque glass back onto a phone? The fitted double sided adhesive that comes with replacement glass really isn't very effective.
@pauld8747
@pauld8747 5 лет назад
I work in a repair shop, and had the same issue. I have much more luck with paying much more attention to cleaning the glass and the metal frame. Sometimes the adhesive that comes with back glass isn't really good in the first place so that can contribute to the issue.

Does this LOCA glue do the same thing as the one is being replaced? I.e. if the screen gets damaged again, we can use the heat gun to remove and replace this replacement screen?
@JerryRigEverything
@JerryRigEverything 9 лет назад
+Jack Adrian Zappa The LOCA glue that you can buy on amazon is much stronger than the factory glue. So no... if you crack the screen after using the LOCA, you probably wont be able to separate it again.
