M65 is an absolutely hilarious mask, with an equally hilarious NBC suit, the Zodiak. Not that they aren't effective, but it's just so bizarre. The gloves go outside on the plastic cuffs to form an unconventional, yet efficient seal and the thing weighs an incredible amount and to add a nice spicy bit on top, the mask has to be inserted into the hood before wearing, meaning you have to put the mask on in a tight space with little to no light, with a really awkward belt that goes around the neck of the suit to reign the bagginess in, one can't help but feel a bit claustrophobic inside them. Don't get me started on the trouser and boot combo, but well. It's very much a poor man's Hazmat suit. But I imagine it protects the user very well for it's intended purpose. Anyway, great vid. Gotta love these things.
I think the Soviet rubberized suits were much better than the NATO equivalents, especially the East German 1st gen suit, basically, one giant suit with only hand holes and a head hole, put the mask on, climb into the suit, tighten the straps and then put the gloves on.
Much easier and straightforward which is a Godsend, I imagine a lot less bulkier too since the Zodiak and it's French brother for the M51 are so impractical anywhere out of specialized units that require prolonged exposure to areas that would warrant such gear. Not sure about level of protection since NBC suits are pretty hard to rate, I assume it's thickness and material? As well as operational seals and suit integrity. Combat suits typically have a layer of charcoal if I'm not mistaken which makes them lighter, but makes them quicker to deteriorate than their heavier rubber counterparts. I can't imagine there's much disparity other than effectiveness versus chemicals and nerve agents. Whatever the case, sometimes the Soviets had their heads screwed on right. At least when it came to some of their gear.
The charcoal lined suits were just something NATO introduced later, lighter than the Rubber suits but they needed replacing sooner, the rubber suit while less comfortable is still the better idea, because it can't exactly expire on you during a chemical attack.
for me when i put on the avon ct12 i always have the stops on the front of the mask like the military does so all i need to do is seal the mask on my face then pull over the straps I recommend that way if you have long hair because you can move your hair then place the mask on your face
Man you have the gas mask segment of the internet covered, every question I ask google leads me to you, thank you for your hard work! Any opinion on the om-90 mask?
Supposedly it's an alright mask, basically a Czech copy of the S10 (sort of), depends totally what people charge for it, if it's cheap it's good, if it's expensive avoid.
What i find funny is that the Israeli gasmask is also the bong mask that i see alot in the vape shops in my area...now i dont know if its a repro or what but i still find it funny.
Are the "old" gas masks still working, because if I search for gas masks like the m65 in the video, in their description always stands that they are now only for decoration purpose. Do the dealers have to write this in there Description, because of some reason or are the masks really not working anymore. ( I talk about the Gas mask not the filter which comes with it sometimes. I know that filters have a Expiry date). I would appreciate it hardly if someone could help me, because I have no glue and dont want to buy a gas mask which isnt working anymore :/
The Forsheda F2 mask also got a better voice diafram, sens it's the military version. And as you said it have a attachment for filter on both left and right sides for left and right shooters.
Yes thats the problem, it's forbidden by law in sweden to sell military surplus from försvarsmaken (Swedish armed forces) i bought my from a guy that teknikly broke the law.
Hello, nice vid! I was wondering if you can send me a link to a cheap working gas mask that would be good for the current problem going on ( 🇰🇵 of course)
hi,i like yours movies...but dont get 1 thing,in one film before you proved old warsaw pact gas mask fits NATO filter and now you are saying opposite?Anyway i ve got MC-1 with original filter code(MS-4,green colour metal one),and now ordered the fp-5 filter the one you ve tested im sure they will fit(let know later),here is the NATO thred info:rd 40mmx1,7(thats what i found),just checked my mask and its 40mm,taht 1,7 meybe a thred pitch,to mesure that i need a caliper(must wait few days for it).Do you think they are the same size in thred but diferent pitch?take care
I have explained this multiple times, 40mm NATO filters will "fit" on GOST masks, but they will not make an air-tight seal, if you want a mask purely as a cosmetic prop then NATO filters on GOST masks are fine, however, if you want an air-tight working seal you will need a modern GOST filter for those masks.
It would be very handy if more gas masks implement one size fits all straps like the isreali civilian mask has, i have that mask myself and it was a great starting point for my gas mask collection because of how easy it is to use.
It's a combination of the straps but also how the inside of the mask is molded, if you simply made longer straps on most masks they would still not fit multi face shapes.
Hi, thanks for great full of informations videos. Just a question about Forsheda - I want to buy this one - but on ebay I still find sellers with F2 A4 civilian version from year 1994. I know that well-stored mask is ok for decades... but I still hesitate because of 25 years in the case of this Forsheda mask. Do you think that buying this mask (price - 50GBP) make sense? It is impossible find newer, because aftrer nineties they produce just the F2 military version and this mask is not on the civil market. I don't want mask just for play but for real chemical scenario as backup.
A French filter wouldn't be made in a GOST setup, you'll find if you used the mask with a proper industrial specification fit-check that the air will leak around the filter.
Well it screws into soviet mask almost as easy as a soviet filter do and it seems to make a proper contact with the gas casquet of the mask because the top of the thread its very similar to a gost one. I've been searching and it uses a RD40 type thread, which seems to be a standard for industry today... it might be wrong but seems something between a warsaw and nato thread
Good video, I would say that the FM12 are best mask for civilians as its a improved S10 design using better eye piece and longer drinking tube as well as dual ports for 40mm NATO filters and a nicer harness its a very good mask and the CT12 too, I do think S10 are also good masks as there best mask for price approx. £25-35 and have good design and drinking tube overall a great mask. Forsheda A4 are nice masks as well I own one and there well designed and made but the A2 military versions is bit better having a drinking tube and dual port. The Israeli 04 is common there good having drinking tube but work fine for a civilian, Drager M65 Z65 good masks good design but the neck area are prone to leak at an angle otherwise a good mask.
I got a m65 with the hard plastic carry case, when I tried it on I noticed a crease in the rubber. It makes it difficult to make an air tight seal, I think it creased because of it being carelessly crammed into the plastic case and stored like that.
Grove Street Gangster You shouldn't need both, just one should be able to give you enough air to breathe and handle out tasks. I believe only civilians really use both slots at once because everyone else who wears them has something to do with combat, meaning they need to aim their gun on one side or another and they can't do so with the filter in the way. This is why you see most with the left filter on and the right off because most people are right handed shooters. If the mask has the filter in the middle though then you should be able to aim down the sights on either side, like an ambidextrous version. Sorry this was so long
Shite. I was about to buy a Forsheda but I'm a lefty. So you're saying there's no way to wear a filter on your right side with the civilian Forsheda masks? If so that takes it completely off the table for gunning for me.
I bought an Israeli mask a while back and my chin doesn't work with it. I'm American with German ancestry. Do you reckon' a German mask would be my best bet? I've also got a Gp-5 and some rando finnish mask.
Do nbc suits fit in gas mask satchels and I mean folded with a gas mask and filter on the side also could you tell me what filters are good for war gases it and where to buy it was not clear enough
Weaponsandstuff93 thank you also how big is a nbc suit because I wanna put it in my locker at my school for safety and have my bag with my m40 and 2 nbc filters in their some times with my books and maybe my back pack
SkeloFace Gassed When I got mine the guy packed it all in a 12" by 6" box. Needles to say I could never in 1,000 tries get that thing back in the box but you can pack it up quite small but it will definitely never fit in a gas mask satchel.
Weaponsandstuff93 Isn't it just a mutant mix of the Avon and the one next to it? When you put the one on in the far bottom right, I can't help but make the joke. It's the closest semblence!
Weaponsandstuff93 I've always thought Avon's were nice due to the SAS rocking them, but they're hard to find in the US, all the cheap Avon's are over in the UK.
Weaponsandstuff93 Oh also, thanks for pointing out approvedgasmasks and those other scammy sites, I was looking for masks of the latest kind that are $120+ at the cheapest. Also, thanks for pointing out ebay filters were cheaper, I'm not a prepper per say but I do think masks are cool and want a functional one if im getting one.
