My aunt got me a german shepherd for my birthday. I was kind of nervous because of how active the dog was. I’m not a very active person but lately I’ve been taking 1 hour walks and actually enjoying the exercise! And i plan on going hiking with my dog when it gets warmer outside.
German Shepards are great dogs for walking. Mine sticks by my side or stays behind me. I bring my leash but rarely use it. Easy to train and listens well...Can't ask for a better walk dog.
@@NlINAA my routine is about a 50 minute walk in the morning and a 50 minute walk in the evening. I would say atleast walk them an hour a day, split it up if you can.
Best training for a Shepherd pup I've ever found was having an older, very intelligent, Pitbull/border collie mix. He was a big dog, 120 lbs, and the older dog was around 55 lbs, but our Shepherd absolutely worshiped her. It was the easiest puppy training we've ever dealt with. He was trustworthy enough to leave alone in the house while we were gone at around 11 months old, never did anything bad while we were gone, because she was there to show him the way. We lost him at the age of 4 to epilepsy. She didn't make it 2 months after he died, just gave up I think. Best two dogs anybody could ever hope for.
I'm sorry for your loss! Losing my dog almost 2 years ago, was totally devastating. He was .y constant companion. He loved everybody, and everybody loved him. R.I.P Skippy!
Please don't give up on him. I have a 5yr old rescue & he's so awesome. I've only had him a year but he's amazing & so intelligent but also calm & laid back. Best of luck to you.
Look for Tom Davis's videos - Upstate Canine Educator. He specializes in behavioral problems. Awesome insight and applying them can prevent many GSD from ending up at the shelter. GSD are Wonderful Dogs - so much fun and play!!
I have a 4 month old puppy German Shepard. They're tough as heck to train. I barely got to train my female German Shepard to sit and come only. All other commands are quite tricky and tough to train them with.
I rescued a 110 lb very intelligent male GSD when he was 3 years old. Also very dominant and confident in himself. I hired a speciality trainer to help me make my boy aware that us humans are not always as dumb as we look, lol. He was the best dog, I lost him a few months ago, he lives in my heart now. The loyalty of a GSD knows no bounds, those of us who are lucky enough to have had one or have one are the luckiest people!
My dad just got us a German Shepard. He'll be turning 8 weeks old in 3 days. I'm definitely looking to start training him now as the video stated that this is the perfect age to do so. I'm sooo excited about the journey! I know that he'll be a great addition to our family! Thanks for sharing this information!
My German Shepherd pup is one and a half months old. He loves to play and socialize with others and he loves to argue with me. Your tips are really helpful and so easy with a lot of patience
we acquired our shepard when he was 8 or 9 months old. underweight and abused, hes turned out to be the best dog ever. hes almost 11 and 100lbs. no sign of slowing down either.
just got one a couple of days ago, 7w old and she’s so stubborn😂 but her potty training it astonishing judging by how we just started and she already understands the concept❤ love her so much
I have had 6 GSDs, all from Germany. My breeder goes to Germany for high level Schutzhund lines. My latest came with 10 generations of his ancestors. I started training him at 9 weeks of age, socializing him with children, contractors, parents of the kids and other dogs. When he acts properly, I say Thank you Charlie, good boy. I taught him not to chew the wrong things by teaching him to fetch his favorite toy. He loves that. He likes my company so much, the bond is strong. I agree with the tips, except I like the best breeder in my state. She has a line up for every litter, before they are born. She sells mostly to people who have bought dogs from her before.
I love my rescue Sheps. Missed training (from me) but the older dogs fall right in line with social interaction. Awesome beasts...super affectionate...very protective...great animals!
They say not to punish your dog but I did with my corgi and he’s one now. Such a smart and loyal boy. As long as u are the alpha and show them love, a little tough love is ok. If you dog listens and gets excited over praises like “good boy” that’s all they need. I punish and praise.
I have a 10 month old shepherd puppy she is truly amazing absolutely beautiful and she is family. I trained her from the moment I got her and it has paid off she is so good at home she is socialised very well and she's growing into a beautiful dog. I love her to bits 😍
You hit on every point that relates to our 6-month-old puppy. However, we got him at 5 months, but he is smart, and I can see his intelligence. As far as dominance....there is only 1 alpha in this house and he is not it. LOL
Got a Bernese Mountain Dog x German Shepherd at 9 weeks old. Have had her three days, now, and she is already going outside. We have had three accidents inside, but she's been pretty good being vocal when she wants to go outside. I started by giving her treats when she goes outside. I haven't reprimanded her for going inside, but I don't give her treats when she does. It seems to have gotten the message across well enough. I'm impressed how easily she's picking things up. I have noticed she likes chewing on everything. I grab her toy, and rile her up when she does so that she'll chew on that. She's currently in a puppy coma at my feet. lol
I.m learning. I wish I had saw this much earlier. I got one of those stubborn german shepards. I just hope it isn't to late. see my problem is that I have a four year old and rat terrier. but I think I can build a bond with this one sharing your love is hard.
Thank you for this video. Luna is a 5 week old rescue, that's never been out of her kennel, loved, bathed feed food or water. I have a hand full, but I'm sure once she is house trained, the rest will be easier. Thank you for this video. I now have hope for us!!!
cool! I'm 13 and can't exactly get a dog at thr moment, since i live with my parents, but i am planning on getting a German Shepherd someday! There super cool dogs, and if trained right and brought up well, they can make amazing companions! I'm willing to spend days, weeks, months, even years training a dog like this., since there honestly one of my favourite breeds and they can also be amazing. There's a neighbour i have, who has (Or had, since my dad thinks one might've died) 2 german shepherds, and i dunno what happened to them, but they definitely had a bad upbringing. And what's even worse, I've heard the owners yelling at there dogs when they bark, which is honestly pretty cruel in my opinion. (It's not as bad as physical violence, but there constantly yelling at the poor things.) And, these dogs are super aggressive. They literally have to be on a lead constantly, and there constantly trying to attack people. I honestly feel really sorry for the poor dogs, but i feel a dog that aggressive should probably be put down, because it's probably in pain. (One of the causes of aggression in dogs is from pain, and this can range from mental to physical pain.) Anyways, great video! I do have a video idea! maybe you could do a video on this super awesome dog breed called "The Kangal Shepherd Dog," , ir just the Kangal Dog for short. There massive dogs, and are honestly one of the most beautiful dogs I've ever seen.
I just got a German Shepard puppy who is about 4 months and potty training them is very essential you definitely need to potty train them and if you not used to a German Shepard it’s the perfect dog to get to bond with
I have a German shepherd that I adopted, he loves protecting me and he is a 15-week-old puppy. Though I'm still trying to bond and train him, he is polite and I love him!
Li adoro!! Sono i cani migliori!! Ti riempiono la vita rendendola migliore,e sono indimenticabili quando muoiono!! Io non riesco a dimenticarla e piango ancora anche se sono passati 9 mesi!!
My roomates got a german shepherd pup, he's 3 or 4 months old now, hes doing alright with socializing, does well on his leash, and alerts me when he needs to use the restroom by grabbing my pants or sitting down near where i keep his leash or near the door. He gets praise and pets when he does well, and rarely needs to be scolded. And occasionally a treat lol
The only breed for me is the GSD. I am so fascinated with this beautiful breed. They are so smart and intuitive. A German Shepherd will truly become “your dog” he will live for you as you will live for him. they are a special gift from the universe to humans for us to understand and appreciate them.
I've got a new German shepherd puppy Max 10 weeks old he is such hard work . I'm trying my best but the biting peeing in the house still. Not due his injection for another week thankfully I can start him out socially great video loads of tips thanks
Great video, I am on my second GSD and have another one confirmed coming in next month as a companion for my other GSD. I have had a lot better luck with dogs of any breed when I have a male and female both. They cause less problems and are happier because they have a companion to play with even though I play with them at least twice a day and take them for walks a few times a week. My male GSD is a great dog though I take him every where with me except on my motorcycle lol or on my weekly dates with my wife. I have a few chickens and its funny to watch him try and herd them back into they're coop. I think I will have a GSD from now on. I have had lots of different breeds in my life time but for me non beats the GSD.
I just got a 3 month old and am pulling my hair out. Lol. Outside dog keep him in the garage. Constantly poop and pee everywhere chewing on things. Trying to not give up on him. Idk what to do. Lol
@@kyleayers8722 If you are talking about a GSD They are not really outside dogs They should live inside with you. As far as the pooping and peeing every where all you have to do is stick his nose in it every time he poops or pees on the floor then take him to the door and show him how to scratch on the door so you will know to let it out or take it for a walk. That may seem a bit cruel but its all ways worked for me and it doesn't take long for him to get the message. I invested in a doggy door and it was some of the best money I ever spent as wall as fencing in my whole back yard so he cant rome all over the neighborhood and become a nascence. My neighbors will kill my dogs if they catch them in they're yard so I really have no choice. As far as chewing on things that is what puppy's do, they have to learn what to do and what not to do that is where you come in you are his teacher and mentor. You have to teach it good behaver. Puppy's have lodes of energy so you have to play with them be its companion and keep its mind busy. I personally play ball with my dogs twice a day for 20 to 30 minuets each time by throwing a ball for him and letting him chase it down and bring it back to me over and over lol. Plus I have an agility Corse set up and train them to run the Corse. Its great exercise for both you and your dog. And you should teach it tricks, mine know many. If you don't have time to do this or are a couch potato then you picked the wrong dog. You should give it to some one who dose have the time and will love it. GSD's are Velcro dogs who want to be with you constantly and by your side. They are great loving and loyal dogs and great companions. But its really cruel to leave them locked up in a room or outside.
@@boofert.washington2499 Humm that is a tough question. It all depends on you and your lifestyle. For me the GSD is the best chose because I life a fairly active lifestyle. I go white water canoeing, camping , backpacking, hunting, and fishing .I also take 3 hikes per week to keep my weight down back in the woods in a very rural area where coyotes, bears, and panthers have been spotted. But for some one in a wheelchair i am not sure. GSD's are very active very energetic dogs. They are bred for herding after all. Even with my lifestyle I still have to play ball with him 2 times a day to keep him from bouncing off the walls. 20 minutes each ball session. He is a good dog though very intelligent, loving, loyal, and affectionate but not a true Velcro dog as he is able to find things to do when i am busy. As far as a guarding he makes a good watch dog as in he barks when he hears or sees something out side. Breeders are breeding the protection instinct out of dogs because of lawsuits but what they are doing is breeding in intelligence. GSD's are the third smartest dog breeds in the world now so they are highly trainable. I have taught mine many tricks. So if you want a true protection dog you have to train them to be that way but its easy with this breed. Mine weights 100 lbs plenty of weight to take down a man. I hope this helps best of luck finding your ideal dog breed.
great video!! a lot of stuff i already knew, but still very informative.. I love working with all kinds of dogs, but just recently got a 6 week old GSD, well, now she's 7 1/2 weeks, but still just a baby! haha. Working on the potty training and attention getting first.. seem to be making good progress. She hasn't poo'd in the house in a few days, but still pee's, but we'll get there.
We have a 8 year old Girl from Czechia. She still acts like a puppy and we are flying in her brother’s baby “so our baby girls niece” this weekend. Can’t wait:)
I have a 7 week old girl GSD. She turns 8 weeks on Friday. On Friday I plan on starting her training. She is doing really well with crate training. And she understands her name. She currently does nibble alot on my hand, and ankles. But when she gets enough rest she doesn’t bite as much. But when she is restless, oh boy her bites hurt lol. I want to teach her sit, come here, stay. What are the best tips/advice for a beginner like myself to train her properly?
Reward and affection training are the best methods. Positive reaction to good behavior and NO reaction to bad behavior. A dog only understands reactions so even a bad reaction can cause a dog to continue to behave badly. Use a clicker to keep your dogs attention. At first use it randomly to get the dogs attention and then when they start to react to the clicker, use it just as you give them a command. That way they learn that a click means you want them to do something. One click for attention and two or three clicks with positive reaction after the command has been fulfilled. The clicker will then become a very useful tool when you need to give commands at a distance. Now go and enjoy the best friend you will ever have. 🇬🇧👍😎👍🇬🇧
My 8 week old German shepherd was potty trained in 2 days! One day I placed some of his poop on the grass where I wanted him to go. Then I stared lettin him out and waited until he went on the spot. Did this every 2-3 hours. He pooped one more time in the house that night. Next day, he barked when he wanted to go out, and he hasn’t gone in the house since l! Such a smart breed.
Son una locura. Enormes! Nacidos para satisfacer a su amo y protegerlo hasta la muerte. Por su potencial requieren entrenamiento y actividad como el running constante. Lo más leal y protector . Adoran su familia, son como un alfa, los guía, los protege, los educa.
Just be patient and give your dog a lot of praise when it gets things right and watch that excited tail wag. Repetition is key to your dog learning but in 15-minute intervals, any more and your dog will suffer from training fatigue, so but a bit of playtime in between your training sessions and not too much training in a day.
I have a 4 month old puppy German Shepard. I barely was able to teach her to sit in 1 day of getting her. All dogs can be trained depending on experience and personality of the dog. If your GS is over 1 year old human years then I would say it's gonna be ugly training them. GS likes to be dominant and stubborn sometimes so you'll have to train hard and daily since GS were bred for having a leader guide them.
I just rescued a 2 month old German Shepard from our local dog shelter and she is the sweetest girl ever! She was a bit shy at first but she is warming up just fine! However I am having the hardest time to potty train! The first 2 days she went potty all over the house, right after I would take her for a walk. Today was the first day that she actually went out side! But not poo poo 😔 I usually take her right after she eats and no luck! Can I get some advise please. Thank you!
I have a 4 month old GSD. While she was easy to potty train in my opinion we still occasionally have an accident if we’re not quick enough. What helped us though was being consistent with times we took her out and making her “speak” before going out. That way if we are in another room and she has to go, she will bark and we know she probably has to go outside. She learned speak very fast we just had a high reward treat and barked at her and said speak until she did it. Now she sits at the door and barks once before being let out. Consistency is key with any puppy. It’s a frustrating thing to train a dog but so rewarding when it works out. Invest in an enzyme cleaner if you haven’t already so the dog doesn’t associate inside with potty time. And what worked for us may not work for you but it’s worth a try!
@@Polarbearsrawesome thank you so much!!! I’m currently crate training her were on day 5 and she is doing amazing!!! No accidents in her crate! I take her out in the am as soon as I get up, and I take her out as soon as I get home from work. Now that my daughter is out of school she will be taking her mid day out for potty time. She’s had 2 accidents inside since potty training her which is not bad. I need to teach her how to let me know when she needs to go. So far I just notice she smells around and that’s my queue that it’s time to go! Lol
@@mayralopez1986 Don’t give up. Just be consistent and take her out every couple hours. They learn quickly but it is tough the first few days. Also, when you take her out of the crate, pick her up and take her out immediately. This usually prevents them from having accident when they come out of crate heading to the door.
@@Polarbearsrawesome This is our exact situation and age. Ours is a little boy, though and mixed with Aus Shepherd. The vocal (he whines) is key. Smart little ones!
I have my first German d shepherd and she is lovely 7mth old not doing to bad with training but would like to get some tips on how to stop the jumping please, 😮
got my last GS at 6 months due to circumstances, was last pup left alone in the box. got him perfectly socialized in just a couple of beach walks with lots of people and lots of dogs. solved.
Hey I just got a German shepherd dog I've never had a dog is that a dog that had inbreeding slightly in its genetics any concerns I should look for everything looks fine with the dog and she's beautiful and awesome and playful doesn't seem to have any issues
Any tips, mine is a chow German shepherd mix and he’s a quick learner to certain things but I left him for about a week for a trip with my mom and her dog and he picked up bad habits he was basically potty trained now he having full on not so accident accidents in the house and listens less
My sister just got a German Shepherd. She is a month and a week old and her name is Augi ❤. I am dog sitting the next few days. While she is a total sweetheart, she is currently always biting my arm and hand about 70% of the time when I pet her. I'm sure she is still teething a little, but I'm not sure how to get her to stop. My sister is reward training her right now. She has learned to sit, lay down, use puppy pads, and bark to go outside so far. How can I reward train her to stop biting...or is there another way? She kinda understands no, but that isn't working too well.
Hi. If you don't mind, will you please explain a bit further. I'm planning on getting a GSD within the next year or so when a puppy becomes available. I've only had smaller, older rescue dogs my whole life and haven't had to do much in terms of training because the dogs just made it easy. I want to get a GSD as a family dog/part of my home security. I'd appreciate your thoughts. A former coworker of mine said her GSD didn't meet the breed standard because he lacked confidence and would hid behind her when anyone came over.. Thanks!
My hanako is still scared of me since I got him just today I want to start training him in 3 days so he’s more comfortable with me. He’s 7 weeks old rn
Wtf 3 weeks? Are you buying from some mass breeder who just wants to get rid of them? That's insane and I am here to tell you that's way too young for it to be leaving its mom.
I’ve been researching on these guys for possible future adoption, I’m just worried if I train it wrong and it’ll be aggressive. So I’m here to learn about them
I enjoyed and totally agree with what u informed people about German shepherds, although more of cartoons and video examples of the subjects would be more engaging to the audience
Dog World, you got some comments to remove. 😐 Also I have a video idea if your up for it: Dog breeds that get along with other animals/small animals. My dogs are 15 &16 as you know. Their life is coming to an end. My family is already looking for breeds that get along with other animal because of my hamster. It’s okay if your to busy to make this video. I just thought it could be a good idea if you ever need one.
I am debating on which dog to get. I can take my dog to work with me but sometimes he has to stay home with my cats. I'm debating between a shephard, Bernese Mountain, Golden Retriever/lab. I need to feel safe. Which would you suggest?
Got a GSD at 6 weeks. He pooped on the floor one time. I told him no then took him and the poop outside and he never pooped in the house again in his 10 years. Shit in the same spot in the yard for 6 months. They are wicked smart.
Single mom of 4 here , I just got a shepherd mix she’s about 4/5 months old , and I definitely have some work to do and it’s getting a bit overwhelming, I’m used to Rottweiler breed and know how to trains and deal with them, but these shepherd breeds are absolutely stubborn , idk if I made the right decision getting her now :/ .. she was meant to my 3 year old daughter for her ptsd when she seen her dad pass away. I think I might need Some professional help.
Even with all the training in the world some are just reactive. Defiantly the smartest dog though I'm biased. Probably a daycare is number 1 on my list if ever get another GSD, had 3.
I just got a new 5 month old puppy German shepherd and he tends to nip me on my legs and bottom. what can I do to stop this behavior. I also need help potty training him.
