46 years ago, Rohidas Desai took over an existing taverna off Eduarte Pacheco street in Panjim to set up his seafood restaurant. Fastidious about the quality of seafood, he would visit the market each day to scour for the best marine produce to be cooked to his wife, Gokula Desai’s recipes. It is no surprise then that this committed approach had earned for Ritz legions of ardent patrons who now pack the group's six restaurants for lunch and dinner. I caught up with Daad (as he is known to everyone in Goa) Desai in a meeting that was ordained by destiny over a seafood lunch at their very first eatery, Café Ritz.
