I worked for years with a Romanian girl. She was explaining the rationing and trading. Seemed services and commodities like farming, labour, repairs and exchanging foods for foods was more popular than gold or silver. Big ticket items she said metals were used. But most of the day to day trades were other stuff it seems. Peserves, pickles, jars of long lasting food and home made soaps she remembered being very popular exchanges. I guess these are fractional stores of wealth too and probably more liquid.
I think your right. If there is a total break down, i.e, SHTF, precious metals will actually be of limited benefit. We often underestimate how sophisticated the trade markets of antiquity were. In other words, there has to be relatively established order for meaningful trade. Flourishing commerce cannot thrive with anarchy and chaos;precious metals will not do much good. That’s why governments have since the days of Sumer put so much resources into maintaining the peace-to provide an environment to allow for thriving commerce. In the early days of a societal collapse ammunition, weapons, non-perishable food stuffs, survival gear such as rope, blankets, warm clothing, etc will be the true currency. Once things become more settled then precious metals will become the bases of transferring fungible, reliable wealth once again.

I think that it's a great concept being able to brake off pieces of Gold in a SHTF scenario. Several years ago I was seriously considering picking up the 50 gramer but I never did. Although I still may get one down the road. 👍👍

Basically the only kind of gold i buy.practical.ocasional fractional when the price is right.well done,logical.commerce will become necessary ,eventually. Bullets salt coffee whiskey eggs will initially be more valuable than gold.
I totally agree with you on using silver dimes, etc. I prefer the older silver like mercs. I have all kinds of things in my stack but that's what I have for shtf.
Yes indeed. Been there. Plus if you really play out SHTF scenarios, I believe the value of gold and silver might be too high for purchasing food. Pennies might be valued just right for food at this time.
In today's day and age, we have a hard enough time convincing men that just because they say they are a woman, doesn't mean they are. You could show them a 1oz gold Eagle, from a slabbed PCGS container, on a sigma machine before doing a fire test and they would still be none the wiser. Best to not talk to anyone after shtf lol.
There's the videos of Mark Dice trying to GIVE people gold coins out side a coin shop! No takers... People are going to have to educate them selves on how to decide what to take as payment in an emergency situation. The experience of people in emergencies is: gold is a good bribe. Maybe if you broke a 1g valcambi bar in half you could hide it in your tooth, and then bribe an official when the time came? But I doubt gold will be a currency in a SHTF situation... It could go up in value, and be sold for currency when inflation might hit. There was a guy who said Gold was going up to $80,000 an oz back in 4-2020! But what ever... He was a gold mining executive... IMHO
Because of the dire economic situation in Venezuela, there are people in that country who are currently using small pieces of gold to pay for all kinds of things, everything from groceries to haircuts. I truly hope no one here in the West will have to go through such a SHTF situation!

In order to be prepared all scenarios must be considered. So if food becomes rare and to have 2 children and a wife to feed, what would that look like? Imagine your on the hunt and come on the opportunity to come back home with cans of beans or gold/silver. Which has value now? I battle over this in my mind over and over!!!
Most definitely! It's that much more difficult with a family. I would say it's all valuable but it depends on your situation. Can you use that gold and silver to buy said food? I believe so. Thankfully we don't live in an either or world. We can get food, water, energy, security and wealth preserving items.

However, I wholeheartedly disagree with you, both on the Combi-bars and goldbacks. I semi agree with you on the gold Combi-bars. I much prefer the silver Combi-bars for SHTF. They will provide an easy and recognizable medium of exchange in a SHTF scenario. I have a couple of silvers, and each individual gram bar contains the brand logo, content, weight and purity of the bar. They seem to me to be specifically designed for SHTF and I can easily see a disinterest in purchase of individual gold gram bars at this time. I totally agree that the premium is too high, even for the silvers, to make a large investment in these. I can see great benefit to having a few of these in a SHTF scenario, but it makes absolutely no sense in trying to trade with these now. I bought a few silvers and put them away to forget about UNTIL SHTF! As far as goldbacks, they are just gold, plain and simple. This is just a case that technology of today allows the manufacture of precise and small amounts of gold in the form of a bill. The gold contained in a goldback is real and recoverable. I think that over time, they will come to be trusted and will be a good medium for trad when SHTF.......TJ

I would have a 1/10 oz Gold Eagle, and a Mercury Dime. Most people just ignored me. It was not as bad as like when Mark Dice get ignored when he tries to give people gold coins... But they just humored me... Anyways one guy who had been a cab driver said he would just take a silver dime as face value: 10 cents if he was driving a cab. Even though it was worth 50 cents at that time... And now it's worth more like $3. And were talking about Mercury Dimes: NICE COINS! But maybe this stuff makes people nervous? Really the dynamic needs an explanation, because people are not stupid. But there's Mark Dice getting stood up by pretty girls when he tries to give them gold coins! IMHO
You have a good line of reasoning. Personally, I don't like junk silver coins for a similar reason to your dislike of Goldbacks for SHTF. They look too much like the fiat money. That said, I'm not sure silver will be appropriate for small transactions either. On another note,I started watching the price of silver a couple of years ago, in that time the price per ounce has increased by a little more than a dollar. Leading me to suspect price manipulation. A little math, if historically a silver piece was 1/20th an equal gold piece and gold is $2000/oz then 1/10 ounce of silver could be $10. Given the natural ratio of 1/8, this might be the best case for your silver too. I also live in an area unfamiliar with the Goldback, so I'm going to try to make my area familiar while I can.
It's all speculation right? We don't truly know how it will play out. We can only look at previous examples of things happening to gauge what might happen. And there are so many factors too. The best way to prepare is to cover your bases with everything. Thanks for watching.

Good video. It’s a very interesting product, certainly beautiful manufacturing technology. I personally would never open the assay unless I had too. I don’t know the application in shft, smaller transactions than full oz gold? or higher transactions than silver? or bribes to border guards? Throw them a few grams? Haha. Idk. Most of us watching have never been there. What do you make of 5g, 10g and 20g bars? Good fractional alternative to coins? I just picked up a 5g Valcambi for a few percentage over spot. I have some fractional coins too so I have a bit of a mix. I mainly go for the best “deal” at the time, as long as it’s recognizable, sovereign coins or reputable bars, Valcambi, PAMP etc.
I found this video researching combi vs gold coins for shtf. My concern is small thin 1g pieces off the combi will be scrutinized by the general public. I'm not yet familiar with the brand names but I suspect most others are not as well. So in sthf does 1g Valcambi or Pamp have meaning? Will build a mix as I suspect others here have. Cheers
