I'm glad you were able to make it out to Brooklyn and Queens. If you're Irish and want to be around proper Irish pubs and generational New Yorkers, you can't beat Sunnyside/Woodside in Queens where the pubs get down to county specific decorations and patrons. If you want to be around a lot of transplants and hipsters with solid bars/clubs and a few decent Irish pubs, then any of the gentrified parts of Brooklyn would be the spot, although you'll be spending just as much on a hotel in BK as you would be in Manhattan.
Welcome to Brooklyn Guru! I grew up in Bensonhurst, south Brooklyn. Love your videos and will check out all of the best pints in Ireland my next trip there!
it is a NYC law. that glasses are not only cleaned but also sanitized. a germ doesn't have a chance! I got pint glasses in Dublin that still had women's lipstick on them.
Is the 'twang' taste in USA maybe because of different glass cleaning methods compared to Ireland/UK? I always imagine everything American = more chemicals when compared to Europe! Maybe try: cleaned (US method) used glass vs new(/used (washed with Irish method)) glass to see if it tastes different!
Interested in checking out Hartley's for sure. A couple Brooklyn spots I like for guinness - The Wicked Monk in Bay Ridge (also good food), Brooklyn Public House, & another spot I came across recently was Smith's Tavern
@@SilverSamurai12 As a Canadian I can't sleight either place... but there is no comparing the Irish bar scene in Toronto to that of Vancouver. In terms of making a trip cost effective, there are a handful of worthy places in all of BC to check out compared to a gluttony of Irish pubs just in Toronto alone.
Funny you went to Iona. I think the day I saw and commented on part 1 (Saturday the 19th?) I mentioned hoping that you'd come to Brooklyn. That night I went to the theater down the street and was going to stop into Iona to kill a half hour. It was 6:30pm and the place was too packed to enjoy myself, so I went straight to the cinema. That night we went to a bar called The West, then left and stumbled across an Irish bar, The Clonard, just a few doors down from the place we were planning to go. Wound up crashing what appeared to be an Irish wedding, but I think was just some girl's birthday. Lots of dresses and bowties. They were going to the bathroom in pairs and threes apparently doing lots of cocaine. For awhile I think we were the only Americans in the place.
I'm often wrong, but I thought that the guinness in the USA was brewed in and exported from Ireland, whereas in all/most other countries it is brewed domestically and a "Guiness flavour extract", produced at St James Gate, is added. Maybe they brew a different formulation for export to USA (with the twang).... Here in New Zealand the Guinness in pubs from the keg is brewed domestically and doesn't seem to have the twang, while the widget cans which are imported from Ireland do have the twang.
There is an ideal temperature for guiness it's like 57degrees which is like irelands annual temperature But Americans like their beers colder . And to slide with the daily temp.
Dear internet, please review and rate everything in the world. Pizza, hot dogs, chicken wings, corned beef, hotel rooms, hotel towels, and now, Guinness. Guinness is a brand. They export the same beer.
Hello there Guru, what's the craic. Got an idea for ya. Could do best pint of Guinness in Turkey and get it sponsored and could get ya mop sorted while ya there, always thinking, just friendly bants and advice, thinking of it me self tbh haha 🙏🍻
I’ve enjoyed yr whirlwind tour of NY n prices are mental for a sesh. Anyway, not sure why Iona are serving the black stuff n a Belhaven glass but they are yr Celtic cousins..👍
Interesting that you say it’s too cold. I’ve never experienced a beer in my life that was “too cold”. Except when I accidentally froze a beer and it turned into a slushy.
For me, Guru has made a living out of talking to people who 'sell' the product. In reality, he should just rock up to James' Gate and chat to those who 'make' the product. It's a bit like chatting to some one on moore street selling iphones vs. a product designer in silicon valley.... All will be revealed....!
the twang could be from Guinness being brewed in America and possibly different laws and regulations do impact even slight variations in ingredients or temps
@@darwin6883 i think the environment does effect how you enjoy a pint e.g a good pint in uk is always smh not as good as an Irish one because when is Ireland the experience is a factor. heck it could be down to how many they pour in a day i doubt many americans are avid drinkers of stouts and ales so they probably anrt poured as often
Nice little video.. bit if constructive criticism, and i understand coming from Ireland where everybody is looking at you sideways wondering wtf you're doing talking to a camera.. but, be more confident talking to it, especially in a city like NY where half the people there are vloggers, no1 gives a shite out there what you do, same goes for any major city.. Also, you just traveled across the Atlantic on an expensive trip to the most famous city in the world, record it, people love to see footage, don't even need commentary, cities speak for themselves.. Keep it up man and fuck what people think
