It's maybe lacking the hardcore influence a bit, but I think there's a lot to be said about the Carcass - Heartwork album being one of the originators of what led to the metalcore sound, especially the whole 5150 metal tone thing.
The Eminence DV-77 has been my goto for ERG’s/low tunings; my V30 killer, and I have a golden era oversized Mesa. They just place the mids in such a pleasant spot, and the typical cuts/tweaks I do to V30’s isn’t necessary with them. But, I’m with’em on the T75’s, such a good blending speaker. Meshuggah used them, and ain’t nobody trashing their tone. ;)
That 2007 sounded like my 2006 Mesa 4x12 OS v30 loaded I just sold :( Lately I've been on a 2012-2014 Black Shadow run. They have this clarity with out the V30 mid range spike
Theres definitely more to the story different cabinents and speakers, mics, pre amps, power amps etc. Other brands than celestion are killing it now too. Might be cool to get an even deeper dive from you guys on the subject one day 🤘🙌
I’m happy with my Engl XXL Pro with V30’s (2006), Framus Cobra with greenbacks and my Diamond cab loaded with EV Black Label 300w. No need for anything else. 💪
The ryan harvey cabs from X50 II are still some of the best metal impulses. In 99% of instances, i use nameless and take out the cab and replace it with the ryan harvey x50 ii cabs.
(p.s, for those who don't have toneforge, those cabs are used on basically everything buster odeholm) But 100% used on humanitys last breath's stuff at least once.
EVM12L is a great sub for a V30, but you'll have to completely re-eq the source. Most other speakers, have this "hollow paper" scooped thing going on. I call it the Paper Sound and it's the main thing that turned me on to v30's, they don't have that sound. G12T75's have that Paper Sound extremely prominent in their tone which is why I hate them so much.
I really wish people would learn a little about metal and hardcore; they were metalcore bands back in the 90s like Coalesce, Candiria and Botch. Quit acting like Meshuggah was the only band in the 90s with complex rhythms. In the beginning of the 2000s there were bands like 7 Angels 7 Plagues, Misery Signals and Poison The Well (who had clean singing!), so much metalcore happened before 2004 when End of Heartache came out. If you like the End of Heartache, great, but don't act like music history started with whatever your favorite album is.
I’m talking about metalcore the way we see it NOW though! When we think intro riff, screamed verse, sang chorus, breakdown towards the end, it’s a different format that happened early 2000s
