Look up Tsar Bomba. The largest nuke ever detonated. 50 megatons. Hiroshima, 15 kilotons.
@atomicskull6405
@atomicskull6405 2 года назад
Actually it was more like 60 megatons, they miscalculated. They also dialed back the yield it was designed to be 100 megatons. It was also the only three stage fission - fusion -fission bomb ever designed. The first and second stages were basically a normal thermonuclear bomb but then a neutron reflector would channel the neutrons from the second fusion stage into a third stage made of ordinary uranium metal (not enriched, just ordinary uranium metal because the fission reaction is not dependent on criticality) and cause it to "fast fission" i.e. the uranium fuel would be more completely consumed than a normal atomic bomb. This third fission stage generated more energy than the first and second stages combined. And the whole thing was designed in 6 weeks after Khrushchev told him bomb designers to make him the largest bonb the world has ever seen. And boy did they deliver. It was so big they got scared and scaled it back by 50%.

@@atomicskull6405 And with the 50 megaton yield gave the pilots 50/50 chance of surviving, rather then a o% chance compared to the 100 megaton yield it was designed for.

@wasgehtsiedasan9562
@wasgehtsiedasan9562 2 года назад
actually not, to this day the largest hydrogen bomb ever detonated had 57 megatons. the tsar-bomb (AN602). it was capable of a 100 megaton blast but everything beyond 100Mt just escapes earths atmospere and 5Mt for a tactical nuke is quite large. the biggest bomb the us ever had (bravo), had 15Mt. a common yield for tactical nukes is around 100 - 500kilotons, like in the trident warheads used in the ohio-class submarines

Got Kt and Mt mixed up, no worry basic mistake. Still using 50 Mt to bombs to destroy a planet, especialy in the futrure when they easily should have better, seems kind uneffective. You don't realize how large the earth is, even 10k tsar wouldn't cut it.

I feel like I'm missing something here. I get that there's a lot going on in the background, probably some kind of war, and Resopolis is presumably allied with the UEF and their king has some reason to visit the human general in his tent. What I don't get is why anyone though it was a good idea to put a nuke in the general's tent. Is this the same nuke he disarmed in his story? Does he take it with him from campaign to campaign like some sort of good luck charm? Did he order his men to take a nuclear weapon to his tent just to show it to the visiting king? If his camp is attacked, does he plan on using it as a melee weapon? Does he insist on all new weapons being taken to his tent so he can glare at them before they're stored properly?

I don't think the atomic bombs were dropped on Japan in anger. I watched a history Channel show that said they were dropped because Japan did not want to end the war and the costs of sending our tired troops to another long drawn out war with high casualties with a people hell bent on what ever caused them to believe suicide through ..... we won that war and Japan was like no we want to continue killing our Neighbors and being assholes. Merica was like fuuuuu..... fine we have to scare your emperor with what can be brought to the table.
@joshuafischer684
@joshuafischer684 Год назад
A ground invasion of Japan would have resulted in the outright destruction of the Japanese people. The people who lived on the islands the US captured literally killed themselves rather than submit to American occupation, and the mainland would have been the same.
@mutehowl
@mutehowl Год назад
@@joshuafischer684 Seppuku was used to avoid disgrace. The pacific front was a brutal blood bath and the idea of going to their homeland and fighting was not in in the budget. We did Normandy Beach but for all of Japan against kamikazes and suicidal tactics using commoners. Yea the nukes were just easier and the shock and awe was enough to slap some sense back into Japan's emperor. They recently pulled a ww2 Japanese soldier off an island who still thought the war was an active thing killing and hiding til the late 90s early 20s He was doing the Rambo thing that whole time f**king heck man. He was dedicated to winning ww2 for Japan and wouldn't believe the war was over til his superior called him off.

The phase "in anger" is a military term that basically means "used in a conflict with intent to kill" as opposed to test firing. It's a sort of niche technical phrase like the legal term "actual malice" which ironically doesn't actually require malice.
