as the blue smurfs in the 4k hade to learn the hard way.. ''blue smurfs takes a few human empire worlds by subversion'' what madmen attacks everything on sight! ''blue smurfs meets the rest of the galaxy'' ohhh.... thats why XD
I love the idea that they have encountered a "chosen people" before that has also attempted galaxy wide genocide, and that they all failed and fell into obscurity.
@Aaron Fuller sort of but not quite. Though the Reich did fail, they are hardly in obscurity. As for any others that may have tried in ages long since past well, it is a wonder we have an preserved history at all to say the least.
Kinda reminds me of the ending of the r/HFY story, "Manners". It goes like this: Like us, they began a war without words being said. But unlike us, they no longer exist in the universe.
Then next thing you know, they are saying "Xenos are stealing our jobs AND Lazy at the same time". then lock the children in cages. send parents away then put the children on trial for being illegal aliens with only them represent themselves and xeno children disappearing "What? no we don't know what happened to them"
There is another story like that. A black Pyramid ship that digitizes trespassers. But the last trespasser was a ship that was wounded from a fight. They fixed the ship, and digitized the assailants. Everyone that was looking from the outside chalked the explorers as dead since they just disappear. Good story. Shows that humanity, even as an AI or UI still has a heart
I like this story a lot. The humans here are (justifiably) xenophobic, but there's still the embers of their old hopes and dreams of meeting friendly aliens deep down inside.
What really drives it home is how often they were kind, only to be spat on. They aren’t just xenophobic, they are justified xenophobic, who have had cruel things done to them, even when holding out hope of a better tomorrow.
@@bogustoast22none25 There is no better tomorrow that can't be done today if we decided to do it. Sadly. We have high ideals that we never seem to come even remotely close to keeping. That's why I like the HFY reddit and this channel. It shows me that people still hope. Which helps me still hope even though I know all hope is lost.
@@ElainCorrine Hope is never lost. Do the right thing, even when there is no benefit for it. Just the other day I hit a parked car while backing up (long story on that, always use ALL of your rearview mirrors). Could have gotten away, no problem, no one was there. But I forced myself to do the right thing. Left my details. Hours later a lady calls me, telling me she was glad I dropped the info, but there was no damage. Again, I could have gotten away with it. I WANTED to, but I did the right thing and explained to her precisely where it was. Small acts of doing the right thing, because it is right, is what moves others to do the right thing.
Unfortunately it said that this teen alien girl and those 9 kids may be the last of their kind so unless humanity is really good at cloning and DNA manipulation, that race is pretty much dead.
not 2 hours, 2 decades probably. these kids need to grow up before they can go and repopulate their home territories. plus there is the slight possibility that they might not want to leave after growing up terran
I did a similar story, well at least it was part of a larger story, and I find this to be a common theme. Reason, we humans are territorial by nature and like 'Thomas Foster' in the comment said, "There is no such thing as too paranoid."
"Paranoia" doesmt exist. THEY will do the most awful things to you, lie about you, put you in a cage, take your kids away, take your rignts away, and then when you have the gall to get upset, angry, outraged they will turn around and call YOU paranoid. Or tone police you into oblivion, using your anger as proof you really are a threat, thus their actions are justified. They break you, then use the symptoms of the pain THEY inflicted on you as proof that there is something wromg with you after all. Ive seen it so many times. They almost ruined my life.
God damn it... The ending... Even though this civilization doesn't line up perfectly with the Greater Terran Union, I can still picture it... Made my eyes water... WHOSE CUTTING ONIONS?!
Hey, we have experience with nano-bombs and we're not taking any chances. Also, if Humanity has heard that "Chosen People" shyte over 100 times, then you know whose dying today
yeah, that's where a narrator helps, to give the reader the needed exposition. The problem is, the narration was done from the perspective of the alien girl who wouldn't have any of that information. And also... it was a way to relay that information to the kids... so... yeah. kind of weird all around.
@@Jeff55369 The story is tight. The author made a decision not to break the "fourth wall" and speak directly to the audience, which had a consequence. Ah, well. Something to think about for the next time.
@@Struthio_Camelus Yeah, I get the reasonings. I guess the only real way to handle it without getting awkward, would be if the focus character already knew the history and narrated it while expressing worry. I expect humans would be rather notorious in the galaxy... although this particular future seems to lean heavily on the theories around the dark forest... so maybe it would have been impossible for her to hear about them.
I'm still learning english and my eyesight is not very good presently so when you put text in so little format its very hard on me. Still, the story was good and I'd like to see a follow up, thank you.
I'll respectfully acknowledge your opinion as personal preference, as i have my own. Considering it differs from yours, i will refrain to debate this subject.
@@imjang2430 It's the literary equivalent of telling something versus showing. Organic exposition goes a long way and is a mark of an author of higher quality.
