Ideologies and philosophies can differ to the extreme. How do we know the survivors are really the bad guys? I know it's kind of implied by the way Sarah acted at the end, but that's not proof.

That's what makes the stories ending linger so well in the mind, for all we know this person sending the message had ulterior motives be they spite at being left behind or just plain nihilism that his side lost the war in the end. For all we know the colonists are innocent, a sub-faction who knew what was happening and decided to escape before the war annihilated everything and this message is the last bitter twist of the knife of a man consumed by hatred that even in death he has to lash out, and Sarah and her kin may well know this and are so deathly afraid of people turning on them that they may be willing to silence those who know the message and fear it being believed. The story leaves you guessing which can be just the right hook to make it memorable.

Yeah, the message provided no evidence. It basically boils down to: "There are the bad guys. We fought them and lost. Therefore we nuked the bad guys." The only evidence for the bad is the one sending the message.

Honestly... asteroids shouldn't be worth abandoning earth... It will recover. Better to just stay and rebuild than just risk it all and leave... Yep, figured there was more to the story...

Especially being as they had the technology to build a ship that would last thousands and possibly millions of years with cryogenics and cellular restoration to keep people that long and bring them out of deep freeze.

This story clearly divides your audience into those who could handle actual literature and those who are stuck at "human toddler kills xeno special forces" level.

Based on your phrasing I think we disagree with which side of that line this story falls on. This was just bad writing, little to nothing said followed by a nonsensical 'twist'.

I want to believe Sarah was good of heart. That all in the cryoship are good. Not because they are the correct faction but because they are the last of humanity. And the anecdotes seems to paint them as good. And on the other side a a voice that openly admits they were willing and indeed brought about the means to their own species extinction than to let the other side win. That sounds like they’re the baddies.

well, we don't really know if they're human. it just says that sarah changed her appearance to look like an alien, and the transmissien said to be weary of those that call themselves human. They might just be random aliens masquerading as humanity.

@@awsome1010101 i mean we are never told how sarah actually looked. I thought its not a bodysnatcher or anything, but just generic aliens claming to be humans. Since the others have never seen humans, they cant tell anyways. That way the invaders are basically using the humans legacy to legitimise their lie of being refugees.

Universe is an unforgiving uncaring violent place where weak burn from plasma fire and stellar level catastrophes and never ending chaos and change. I take great solace in that. I mean if the universe was a non violent peacful realm it would be highly unfair against humanity.
