The random detour he does at 0:35 is gold. You think he’s got a plan and is about to pull off some big manoeuvre but just ends up right back behind him again.
If goofy lab coat dude had consumed approximately 13 Taco Bell bean burritos the previous evening, he would have had the rocket propelled closing speed required to apprehend the 1980s K-Mart Blue Light Special monkey suit wearing dingleberry. Also would have killed every fvck'n life-form within a 253.6 mile radius...
“I got a script. Read it. Scared me senseless, comme d’habitude. And I said to Garth-looked straight into his face, never been afraid at holding a man’s gaze, it’s natural-I said, ‘This is going to be the most significant televisual event since Quantum Leap.’ And I do not say that lightly.” -Dean Lerner I couldn’t agree more.
The best part of that is the irony. They deliberately put a stunt double on a part where Garth could have easily done it... all the other parts that actually looked kind of dangerous, the cycling through unsteady terrain, they got Garth to do it instead of a stunt double!
The "DVD audio commentary" they recorded is also hilarious. In this scene, they just go: Learner:"We were all doing our own stunts." Marenghi: "Yeah, not everybody would do all their own stunts. There i'm running." Todd: "It's obviously not you." Marenghi: "It IS me!"
To me, this is one of the best parodies I've ever seen. For anyone who understands what they are doing and how they are playing off the 1980s, it strikes a real chord (and the funny bone). Andrew Hewitt, the composer of the music, IS amazing. I can't say enough good things about GMD. Savor.
@@Bcast64 Chase scenes, obviously. Long, drawn out, and a tad bit ridiculous and convenient. But hey, they were entertaining. That's what people wanted, and still do: action scenes.
The lack of episodes is what ensures the high quality. Fawlty Towers, Spaced, The Office - they all have just 2 seasons of 6 episodes. Big Bang Theory has 280 mindnumbingly dull episodes.
Quality, not quantity. Proper artists have other things they want to work on. This is why America can't do art, profit shouldn't even be in the equation.
@@hbp2m "Big Bang Theory has 280 mindnumbingly dull episodes." But you could reduce it down to two seasons of six and pick the very best ones and I'm pretty sure it would still be dog shit.
Things I love about this: 1. The monkey man's incoherent speech 2. The fact that he took a bike in the first place, and Dagless took a second bike to follow him 3. There was no need for the chase to split up like that 4. Dagless still has his gun, but is deliberately choosing not to shoot the monkey man 5. That smooth ass drift from Dagless with the car drift sound effect 6. That little obstacle course they did 7. The way Reed appears to enter the chase horizontally from inside a bush 8. The terrible green screen as Dagless and Reed cycle side by side 9. "You know me, Dag! I'm too busy just staying alive!!" 10. Reed pulling a megaphone out of thin air 11. The little glance at the camera after the second "Pull over!" 12. Reed's stance after being pushed off his bike 13. The ramp 14. The way they abandoned the bikes for no reason 15. The obvious stunt double with the terrible wig 16. The full-on jungle gym they just happen to run into in the middle of the woods 17. The way the monkey bars are clearly low enough for Garth to just walk forwards and pretend he's hanging from them 18. The random pile of empty cardboard boxes 19. "Agh, I'm sweating now"
and the empty boxes have pictures of water jugs on them, as if that's what they actually wanted to use but for some reason they could not acquire them so they printed out images instead
I wish they had done another series of this, easily one of the best comedies I've ever seen. They could have "found" more copies of the old episodes instead of doing that Man To Man thing which was nowhere near as good.
Not much that could be done about it. Channel 4 put it on at a stupid time of night and it attracted fewer viewers because of it. C4 used these low figures to justify denial of a 2nd series.
@@HOTD108_ Because of the show’s premise. It’s presented as a TV show from the 80s that was never aired and is interspersed with interviews with the creators. To make another series they would have to claim that they were old episodes since most of the jokes depend on that premise.
I remember this scene vividly when it was on channel 4 over 10 years ago. Nice to know that most of the comedian actors found fame in other areas except for garth himself.
OUTSTANDING!!! Better than anything out of Hellywood in the last 15 years! Laughed all the way through it! I can not commend everyone involved highly enough. The 70's Action Style camera work work was fantastic! Sound FX's were very well chosen and on point! And the out of sync with the action sound, reminiscent of a 70's Kung-Fu film, was truly inspired! The acting was right out of a Mack Sennett short from the 20's! Make more videos!!!
Many of the shots here were clearly inspired by the chase through the forest on Endor in Return of the Jedi. Honestly, I'm hard pushed to decide which production was the more impressive.
I've watched this episode dosens of times but I only just noticed that the greenscreen clips out Garth's feet at 1:35, it's details like that that really remind me why I love this show
The best high speed chase I've ever seen was an old jump motion video where two witches are riding broomsticks. Its kind of a jump, film, move, jump, etc, motion film. Cool effect for the time.
Dammit, havnt seen this is in years and now I’m going to have to watch them again. Darkplace was such a brilliantly accurate homage to 80s low budget horror cheese, absolutely outstanding and as others have said, the music in this sequence is spot on
nah best high speed chase period. Like there is no better one even imaginable. Like if you look up high speed chase in a dictionary it will just show this scene.
This needs to be the new add for Choppers. I'd buy one again... admittedly I was 10yo last time mounted this beast but I know at 50 I'd still look damn good. Almost as good as CHiPs who me and my mate thought we was lol
I know they are intentionally trying to emulate bad B movies, but this is still way too good. Bad stuff like Troll 2 and The Room can't be replicated. It's a piece of fine art.
