Weeding through all the 'sensational' youtube videos of Colorado, I appreciate a 'homegrown' perspective. I have been there twice now, and can't get over the natural beauty.

One of the greatest things about CO is that pretty much anywhere you go, you can find natural, home-grown splendor.

@@HashtagColoradoLife One other thing I failed to mention, is how pleasant and congenial the people are that have either lived there for an extended time or as yourself, born and bred.

Definitely a fair list. The garden and red rocks open space, within a stones throw . I love going they're almost everyday. It's like my walk around the block✌🏽

Went to Hanging lake in 2019, great scenery. Was $12 per person and you ride the shuttle. Now if they reopen it might have to charge extra.
@HashtagColoradoLife
@HashtagColoradoLife Год назад
They actually re-opened Hanging Lake just recently. But you do have to get a permit ($10) and reservation to make sure that it's safe for everyone to hike, especially during winter.

@@paulhatzig7084 Yes, a few summers ago we got so much rain that some places in the mountains looked like rain forests lol. Especially some of the valleys near Durango in the La Plata Mountains.

We used to camp near the Y. I was pretty small, but we named one campsite Bell Rock. We had to jump across a brook to get to this rock from the campsite. It has a rock on the back of the "bell" that looks like an ironing board. If I recall correctly this was in view of Mount Big Cheif, but that might be a different site. Also, the older siblings used to hike up to Eagles Nest, another rocky formation. We rarely had another other campers nearby. These are above Colorado Springs. Does any of this sound familiar?

Can you suggest a few 12k and 13k mountains for beginners in Colorado maybe San juan and or rio grande mountains?
@HashtagColoradoLife

Bennett Peak is in the San Juans and is known for being one the beginner mountain hikes in CO. West Spanish peak is south near the San Juans but is within the Sangre de Cristo Range. Stand alone peak and outstanding to catch sunrise.

I used to love going up to RMNP. Now with overcrowding it’s hard to get up there for a spontaneous day of hiking. The permit system in place from June through most of October is a real hassle.

Guess I was pretty fortunate to go when I did- on a weekday during the fall of 2020. There were definitely still some busy spots but I hardly saw anyone after about a mile into each hike. Seemed like everybody who came just wanted to see Emerald Lake.

Stupid question, what are your thoughts of solo hiking and wild animals?
@HashtagColoradoLife
@HashtagColoradoLife Год назад
It really depends on where you are going. If you are hiking out of the Front Range, along a popular route, there shouldn't be too much to worry about. If you are going real backwoods, I would take the time to research the trail/path to see if you need to carry something to protect yourself. The very infrequent wild animal run-ins that happen in CO to hiker or campers is running into an animal that is truly desperate or messing with mama and kids. The biggest piece of advice here would be just to use common sense.

@@HashtagColoradoLife Back 60 years ago Mom and Dad let us hike off into the woods by ourselves and never said one word about bears. I think they might have a bear problem in the Boulder area, though. I think things have changed with so many people and so much food not stored safely. I am no expert on Colorado, however, having moved away in my teens.

What's so barren, Joe? Parts of the mountains above the treeline are unable to sustain trees and other flora. Simply because it's just so high up. It's sad, yes. But there are awesome National Forests, like Pikes Peak National Forest, that have loads of forests available.
