I love these "best" videos that you do! I have amazing memories of going to S Lucas every time I was. in Musselburgh with my Gran in the late 60's early 70's I always had the same thing, a knickerbockerglory which came in a glass that seemed as tall as I was at the time

Fantastic video! I agree, you should have more subscribers. I will definitely be watching this again before our next trip, along with a few of your others. I agree with your other commentor also, these “best of” videos are very helpful. Very cute ice cream shirt! I’m a chocoholic but I do love a good sorbet also. Cranachan sounds really good.

I remember my first visit to Edinburgh ever I went to Milk Bar and got an ice cream with basil in it! I think it was vanilla basil. Anyways, it was so delicious and such a cute shop! I’ll never forget it.

Omg Mary’s Milk Bar! I went there four times during my eight days stay in Edinburgh. What a treat and also a great place to meet people. (Outside) Artisan gelato always put a smile on my face as well. Thank you for doing ice cream!

Thanks for the recommendations! Popped through to Edinburgh yesterday to see some fringe shows and tried Moo Pie Gelato.... it's every bit as good as you said it was. Truly delicious!

Sitting outside at S. Luca? The 4-way intersection w/lights just meters from the shop means there is a lot of traffic, both moving and idling, as well as a lot of pedestrians. For that reason alone I would think eating something like ice cream would not be advisable. The 'cute stairs' by Mary's Milk Bar are, as you likely know by now, the Vennel, which includes some of the Flodden Wall, the earliest of the stone defence walls (two more were added later). Though Luca's is just down the street from where we stay, we too love Mary's Milk Bar. This is a wonderful video which, like the one on fish 'n' chips, will remind locals that some of the foods they might take for granted are definitely worth a re-visit.

For me, it's pistachio, hands down! I had it in Venice and it's been my favorite ever since!

Atleast it's so cold over there it can't melt before you eat it ! Here in Australia you can't make it out the shop door without it running everywhere
@Kakibot

Oh no! That is definitely a struggle Scotland does not know! But I bet you get amazing ice cream places all over the place, do you have a favourite?

@@Kakibot we only have afew icecream shops around. So many flavours make it impossible to choose. My favorite would be licorice or jaffa

Been waiting for this video since you mentioned it in your other video! I'm quite ashamed to say I haven't tried any of these places apart from S.Luca D: Probably not gonna get to try Mary's Milk Bar until after the Fringe though!
@Kakibot
@Kakibot 5 лет назад
That's probably a reasonable decision .D althooooough Mary did mention that during the Fringe she gets away with weirder flavours than usual! So if that's what you're into it might be good to visit anyway! (We went in the AM and it wasn't that bad at all, people wise!)

Hi I haven't tried tons of different ice cream places in Edinburgh but when I do try any ice cream I'm always comparing it with the amazing Esplanade cafe Greenock. Tried Mary's Milk Bar twice last time I had Crannachan which I think had Laphroaig. It was nice you could subtley taste the Whisky. I think a good bit of why Mary's gets the attention though is the unusual flavours. On Friday I was on Edinburgh and found Alandas up from Greyfriars pub. I had a double espresso flavour vanilla fudge and a white chocolate crunch. Alandas seems to get mixed reviews online. Some good reviews but some poor one's for the service and product. People say its pricey. It was a bit expensive £9 something for the large tub. I could get a larger tub in Greenock for that. Or same size for less. But I have to say that white chocolate crunch tasted amazing and I could have ate a whole 500ml tub of that. Whatever the crunch was almost like a white chocolate lion bar that crunch was awesome.

I'm like you I love anything coconut. My friend and I tried amazing gelato in Dublin last year at Ginos. When you requested toppings they literally dip your tub of gelato in the toppings and roll it around so it's covered in it. We where there around black Friday and Ginos had by one milkshake get one free. Two amazing shakes for €5. Once you'd tried Ginos McDonald's shakes now seemed rubbish in comparisonm

There's no such thing as too much ice cream in a day. In one sitting, yes, which is why you have to pace yourself. It's a marathon, not a race!

Hi I am italian (born and bred) and I have to disagree with you...Mary's Milk Bar gelato is really similar to the italian one. Actually is the only one I really enjoy in Edinburgh
@Kakibot
@Kakibot 3 года назад
Interesting! But maybe you can help me decipher one thing - in Italy, is there actually a difference in gelato and ice cream, or would the two be interchangeable? I sometimes feel like in the rest of Europe, people often try to paint gelato as quite different from traditional ice cream (e.g. explaining the difference in airiness and milk fat levels) but I'm not sure if that's ever even discussed down in Italy?

@@Kakibot hi! Just discovered your channel and I'm obsessed 😍 I lived in Edinburgh for 2+ years and I look forward to going back, so watching your videos makes me feel less nostalgic 💕 Btw! I was about to talk abt Mary's Milk Bar as well, as an Italian I always would go there when I had the chance. Anyway, we really just have the word "gelato" for both our artisanal product and the more commercial/chemical/fatty one (which would probably be ice cream), but I guess this difference was mainly created abroad rather than by Italians. Apart from that, we have other alternatives to gelato such as sorbetto and semifreddo, but it's quite different.
