I have a 1989 convertible 6 speed I've owned for many years and I really like the car. I finally located a hardtop (they are very hard to find) this past summer and after a lot of prep work it's now on the car, and it looks great. I know it's a c-4 and many folks don't think much of them but I love the car..
These guys are awesome!! Been a customer for years. I have a cammdd LS7 in my C5. They've been great on parts advice. Honest and quality work for a reasonable price. What's not to like.......
Lyle, happy new year. The C5 Z06 is my favorite of all the Corvette models I’ve driven. Last of the somewhat analog Corvettes with world class performance. If they are going up in value then that’s fine. Hopefully they bring their owners much joy.
Three months ago, I bought a pristine 01 ZO6 with 19K miles, headers, custom wheels, cam, cold air intake and the original wheels and tires included. Not a scratch or ding anywhere, adult owned. I paid 28K and don't regret it. I love this torch red, black interior Rocketship! And, I'm a Ford Guy and was looking at Mustangs! Thanks for the great, informative videos, Lyle!
I picked up a cammed headers intake caged 01 z06 with 31K miles in july for 27k. Best car I have ever owned. I have since put weld lagunas on it, upgraded all of the lighting and added Corbeau evo seats. Enjoy!!

I really really love my 03 Anniversary Edition 6 speed, but something in me still always wants a Z06, I just think with the right wheel and tire setup that side profile of them is absolutely stunning. It has always reminded me of the Cody Coyote from the TV series Hardcastel and McCormick from when I was a little kid. I just couldn’t pass up the deal that I had got on my 03 AE I was mainly just after a 6 speed being that I grew up driving a manual transmission and haven’t had one since high school.
Have a 2007 3LT Black /Tan. Also have a 1964 327 / 365hp L76 motor. 11:1 Compression Muncie close ratio 4 speed. 40k documented miles, mint condition. Don't even care if they don't go up I just love them. About to buy a 1996 with 20k miles another sweet car...I love Vettes...
I have torch red 1997 c5 base. Once I worked its kinks out the 1st year owning it... its been an excellent cruise car the past 5 years. Fun to drive and no issues. A steal at 6k when I bought it.
I will be buying a sports car for myself in the coming months. I am seriously considering the C5 ZO6. Now I just have to find one! I have $25-30,000 cash ready to go...

Yeah good points on the C5 Z06 . Great car. What is interesting is most people who buy a Corvette , especially older ones do not really understand the cost associated with that. I have a C4 1993 LT1 6sp convertible and a 1995 ZR1. Both cars have had serious money spent on upkeep and bringing both to just below those " trailer queens ". Mine get driven. They are reliable and very well maintained and the 93 was a hard car to get right. Thousands of dollars. Enough to keep them in good service condition. You have to keep them indoors and I only operate them in dry weather conditions. A labor love not profit. If I keep the cars another 20-30 years while doing that they both will be worth a truckload . But that is very difficult to do on a budget.
Love this guys content. Yeah I own i c6 2007 rn and in the future I definitely wanna get a c5 but now I know that there are certain c5 to get ill definitely keep that in mind. I have a 05 C6 that I absolutely love driving and walking down to the garage and grinning like the Cheshire cat. Enjoy your channel. Scared the crap out of me about the door hinges popping and maby having to replace the whole door lol. It was just a dry bushing and I made sure both doors are lubed and smooth as buddha . Any leads on sun visors? Put a set of continental tires on about a month ago and man what a difference.
The biggest problem owning older Corvettes in my experience is finding people who will work on them. So far I can’t find anyone who will work on my low mileage well cared for C4 Corvette. I’m still trying to find someone to install the weather stripping I purchased from you’all. I’m a bit sorry I didn’t buy a C5 to take its place but I like the C4’s style and comfortable interior more.
I hear you. I bought my 1985 c4 last winter and had the same problem. I went to a bunch of Autobody shops and they all said no until I found the right gentleman who had a body shop and also built muscle cars. He charged me 1600.00 with labor and materials. You might have to go out if your immediate area. I love the c4 too btw!
@@ethanl3769 I had a worse thing happen than I mentioned in my comment. I bought supposed new rubber from eBay. I found a body shop that, instead of telling me the crap wouldn’t fit, installed it anyway. They handed me a totally messed up car with inside door panels falling off, doors not closing, top sprung and rear glass no longer raising nor locking closed. I paid two hundred for the shitty rubber and three hundred to the idiot body shop. I bought new “good” rubber from C&S Corvettes in Tampa for seven hundred and fifty and I cant find a shop in my whole county, Palm Beach, to fix my messed up Corvette. The irony is the original rubber kept the car dry, except for one area that drips in heavy rain falls. Why didn’t I leave it the f’ alone? I can’t use the car now until it’s repaired for however many bucks it cost. I love the damn C4s having bought two when new, an 87 and a 94. I now have another 94 and have considered, at weak moments, trading it in for peanuts to buy a C5.
I almost bought a 2003 Z06 before I bought my 2004 base C5. I still wish I had bought the Z06, but now I have 2006 Z06. Once I get the heads done in a few weeks we will really be crusin'
Ive got a 93 that has been sitting for at least five years now...ran fine when I parked it...life happened...now trying to decide if I should sell it or get it back going and enjoy it again

Well Well!! This is music to my ears cause I've got a C5 Z sitting in the garage. 70K miles and not one issue except the water pump replaced. I'll go to sleep tonight with a grin.
Seems more likely when that time comes that the c6 z06 will be the more collectible car with the 427. C5z maybe as it’s the first gen of a full z06 car.
That is pretty normal. I look for Corvettes since 10 years. The prizes always come down in the autum winter months, and come back high in the spring summer months. If you wanne buy one, winter is Best Time.
The only difference between the 2001 LS1 and the 2001 Z06 LS6 is the compression ratio. Being an ASE CMAT I'm perplexed!?? Can you shine some light on this issue? You are the Best!
The real change is in the gearing of the manual transmission and the Z06-specific suspension set-up. The car pulls a lot harder than the 55 additional horses would suggest. The overall package is what makes this car feel so different and so special. Lyle
Me? well its a 86. i do a little here and there.. 100k. .5th year for me..i made air vents up front. Like Callaway...i take it out in summer... its been great...nothing. major..i enjoy your films. Hi Lyle I have a 1977 Corvette it leaks oil when I drive it sprays out oil and I changed the timing Chan and gasket on the timing cover but I didn't take the oil pan off
Are there any particular maintenance items or attention needed for the C5 Z06 above and beyond a regular C5? Would you consider a C5 Z06 a "waste" if you're not planning on track driving the car much, but still want a robust street car?
Excellent question! One of the beauties of the Z06 is that it doesn't require any substantive additional care than a base coupe, yet provides such a different driving experience. The only sticky point today is finding the exact tire sizes that the factory used--I had to move up one width increment in the front of the car to find a tire that would work. While the Z06 is more than capable on the track, the differences in how it is geared and how it behaves can be enjoyed driving to the grocery store just as easily. It has all the utility of the base car plus an edge that defines it as more than just a cruiser. Lyle

Just started saving for what started out as a C7 but prices are out of reach so my attention has totally changed to a C5 Z06 specifically the 2003 which I’ve read is the sweet spot. @@stephendibari5010 The '03 and '04 Zo6 are identical in almost every aspect. GM made some small changes to the shock valving and suspension compliance in 2004, but that was it.. Lyle

Hey lyle, whats the chance of swapping the TR-6060 in my C6 with a TR-6070 from what ive seen it should be a pretty direct swap but figured id ask the professionals before spending the money
I never buy a car looking to sell it... I always say if someone my car with miles on it , that is on that person... I never drove a c5 , I have a friend with a base c5 vette... I dont see many C5 zo6s.
I would pick a C6 ZR1 out of those three choices, as there are far fewer of them than there are of the other two and it was a total beast of a machine. If you are looking for track performance above all else, the C7 Z06 edges the ZR1 in every way--just stick with the manual if possible to avoid the overheating issues of the automatic. The c5 z06 didnt really feel special to me compare to my c6 the z06 did feel lighter but it didn't feel faster and also those c5 interiors are just horrible now the c6 z06 is a different story
Yes collectable, it won't be worth anything in about 15 to 20 years the way things are going, invest in property people where it's cheap now even if it's just land property, it's the smart thing to do. Take my advice.
