A similar technique used by Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks.
Dr Monte gives an explanation on the upper trapezius and levator scapulae muscles and how to properly tape them to decrease tension. These muscles play a role in shoulder and neck pain as well as causing headaches when they are tense.
Using this taping method can decrease the tension and improve daily functioning by decreasing pain.
This is perfect for anybody from high level athlete to everyday office workers.

Well explained. Good to see someone who's intentional about recoil direction. Some people just drag it randomly and cause more pain and discomfort.

Thanks for watching!! It really does make a difference with the amount of tension and the direction 💯

I've got a military neck and get tension migraines very often and nothing seems to work (appart from aspirin). My husband applied the tape according to your demo and it has already aleviated the pain. I can function again! I will check out your neck exercices video once I have recovered a little bit more. Thank you so much !

Thank you Dr. Monte. That is not something that one can do to one's self right?

It actually is. We probably need to do a video for demonstration. You can use something like a broomstick between the legs instead of the arm. Then for pressing the knees in just use a ball. For resistance going out use your own hands or a resistance band loops. Hope that helps!

I applied it to myself. I am always looking for videos to apply KT tape on my own. Not enough out there. Thanks for the tip!

I have chronic pain, as well as acute pain, at times, in this area. I knew before watching this video that my upper trapezius was involved, and because of the intensity of the pain, also that it went into my skull. I looked up trapezius, came across the insertion (skull) and upper trapezius and levator scapulae (sp.?), so all that was left was coming online to find the "best" way to tape me as I have severe cervical spine degenerative disease (ossification of the C2 or C3 --I don't have the paper work in front of me from the recent MRi), and the worst damage is at the T1, so I have to be careful where I place k-tape. I don't mind the neckline being taped as 1) I want the best job done, and 2) I have a buzz-cut because of the spinal pain, other handicaps, so I'll just buzz it a bit higher in the necessary areas. I watched John Gibbons' on this area (a favorite osteopath), I watched a poorly executed demo done by someone selling kinesio-tape, and then I came across this demo, which is, by far, the most professional, straight-forward, detailed in a necessary way. Thank you, as my husband will be doing the taping, and I hurt a lot right now. He needs a "great" or "best" way, i.e., demo because he's not adept at applying tape (I do my own knees for bursitis). I've tried a whole lot of KT tape brands, some so-so, some good, and a few so poorly made as to either fall off almost immediately, or to tear off some skin, so I've got my go-to tapes, just needed a go-to demo, and you took care of that part. I'm grateful you did this video. A hint for anyone whose tape "ends" come undone before it's time for you to take the tape off? Plain Elmer's glue on the end, directly on the skin, then put the end(s) back down, and wait 30 minutes or so before regular activity. When it's time to remove the tape, use olive oil if you need it to come up easier (sometimes I do, sometimes I don't), then plain white vinegar (anti-bacterial) with water on a washcloth or paper towel to get the oil up, finish with 90 plus isopropyl alcohol, pat dry, and let the area air out before taping again, if needed. I do daily, gentle stretching (using Peggy Cappy's old DVD, "Yoga for the Rest of Us", just the first 15 warm-up section, then my own gently standing and lying down yoga and other helpful strengtheners and stretches that I've collected through the years of doing yoga, put in a 3-ring binder. At 62, with a history of injuries, I now go as gently as possible, get my husband to help with, for instance, "D-ring" placement so I can stretch my quadriceps easily before moving on to other work. Good luck to anyone who is suffering either acute, chronic, or both. Most of us need, or we will need, helpful instructions for kinesio-tape, and it's hard to come by, so I Subscribed to this channel. P.S. I edited a few times, mostly to put space between paragraphs, to make it easier to pick through, I hope, for something useful. 🙂
