Well explained, thankfully without being windy like other vids, and you certainly seem to recommend some great lights. I would like to see some of these compared to the less expensive Chinese models that are also popular. While I agree that white light is less efficient, it appears nonetheless more *effective* at growing plants as shown in several comparisons on RU-vid. In truth the only "full spectrum" light is a white light. Also, watts are only used today to give buyers a tangible measure of how bright an LED is for the unfamiliar buyer who compares to their old incandescent. Lumens or "candlelight" is the ultimate measure of brightness for any light. I believe the science is not all in on what plants take from white light.
gata look at fluince bioengineering you missed the best led bord is the quantum bords like growmou5 has or the cxb3590 you missed the best that I can see
I agree 100% Erik. The diodes in particular are all made in China. Some lamps are assembled in USA or Europe, but in reality you're just paying marketing profiteers who use that as a gimmick. I'm more interested in the actual design of the light and how well it works next to the cheap Chinese models. Nobody seems to do any genuine even-handed comparisons, and the so-called "top-ten" articles deliberately exclude the lower priced models. That's dishonest and quite a shame.
I agree, using wattage consumed to compare output for anything electrical is just absurd although it has been done since electricity has been in use. Even in incandescent lights there have been different filaments materials used that consumed less wattage that had brighter light output. Cost was a big reason most were never brought to market.
Eric is correct people I'm using the epistar 320 mars hydro and I own a black dog they are exactly the same in yield. I will tell you this after 25 years of growing blending HPS and the 320 Epistar black dog and HPS also other room is a magnificent thing. Now if you want to see the Newest and greatest technology check out the TITAN.... wow.
My first LED was the Vipar Spectra 600w Reflector Series. It is amazing for the price.. I can only recommend it to everyone with a small budget. If you have questions, question.
I totally agree on the viparspectra lights they are my favorite I have a 300 reflector a 450 reflector and a 600 reflector and they are all awesome especially the 300 it's the newest one with the timer on it and the dimmer! The new reflector-series has timers and dimmers and remote control and they are awesome for the price it's well worth it my friend has one of the more expensive lights mentioned on this list and I don't see much of a difference between it and a viparspectra.
Once you have the lights, how do you get the informations you need to grow different types of plants? I mean, if i want to use it to improve tomatoes seed germination, how many hours of light/ off should i use? what spectrums? etc
Ana Reale I normally use the veg and bloom lights both on all the time and if i were you I would just use the veg light for seeds in smaller plants and 16 hours on eight off would probably be a good light cycle but you pretty much can’t overdo it because I’ve seen people leave them on 24 seven so I’m not 100% sure on that And if you’re grilling something small and sensitive to lay just raise the light up higher or dim it if you have a newer model
Very informative vid. Coincidentally, I put a Viparspectra PAR700 (approx 325 actual watts) in my grow alongside an Optic 4 LED (410 watts) with Cree Cobs. The Optic 4 also has supplemental 5 watt LEDs and it puts out a more or less white light, skewed to the red/yellow. The Optic 4 kills the Viparspectra in PAR readings. Yet, the blue wavelength skewed Viparspectra with 85 less watts and with lower PAR readings is outgrowing the Optic 4. I am growing a sativa dominant hybrid strain and the buds underneath the Vipar are fatter, more dense, and have more resin. The Vipar throws less heat also. The Cree Cob light raised the temp in my 6 x 8 grow by 5 deg F.
Awesome video thank you bro. Mars Hydro rose to the top for me simply because they were forthright in their explanation about Real Wattage vs. Comparative Wattage. Though my light, the 300 watt model, has "300 watts" in the title, it is also made very clear that it's actual wattage, which is what's important when using as a grow light, is between 140 and 156 watts.
Lewis Latimer actually perfected the incandescent light. Just to be correct Latimer received a patent in January 1881 for the "Process of Manufacturing Carbons" an improved method for the production of carbon filaments used in lightsbulbs. This vastly improved the amount time for the filament to be lit.
They have great led lights that in reality are getting as good as results as any of the high end lights on Amazon. They have $125 1000 watt led lights that actually pull about 500. Awesome value. My fav is the king led. Its got uv and ir diodes. Three each. Six total.
What about the COB leds? I made a lamp yesterday using 4x50W cheap leds and they are so simple to build a lamp and all comments abot them are very good
I've vegged chillies with one of those screw in LEDs (18 diodes) from china. It worked out really well IMO. It can't flower of course, which is why I time the growth to transplant outside when the summer comes for a bigger crop. The 50 diode UFOs are ridiculously cheap on AliExpress at the moment. I've just ordered a 7 baud one (White, UVA, IR, 2xBlue, 2xRed) for 28 euros, delivered! The customer reviews looked promising. Seller has it advertised as 150w / 50 actual watts. If it turns out to be junk, 28 euros isn't a big deal. Also check out white PCB boards. Folks on the cannabis forums have been breaking the domes off 3 dollar, 10W home LED bulbs, and daisy changing them together to make some interesting solutions with surprising results.
Could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the advertised higher watts are supposed to be their equivalent to HID lights to give people a comparison (since those are more well known).
I purchased a 1600 watt mars ii (b4 watching this) The 1600 watt was out of stock; they sent me TWO mars hydro ii 900 watt... I threw one of the 900's in my 3x3 tent Two plants in veg (60 days) when changing from a 300 watt mars gen 1 I've noticed this light is VERY powerful and is burning my plants... IDK what to do since I can't return... I got such a good deal receiving two of these. I think i'd be better off keeping one of the mars ii 900's that's in my tent 3x3 5 ft tall.... Other is still in box only opened it to plug in.... What would be good advice on which light to replace my 900 with? Or shld i let em go and see what happens when flipped 12/12???????? rookie to indoor, have had many successes outdoor. Plz treat others as you want to be treated. Good day to all stay lifted
Good video but i think all the brands you've shown are a bit pricey for the commoner. I've purchased off Amazon and have had long lasting units with good results for much less. Like 2 i am currently using . I tested the wattage myself , one pulls 280W from wall, 2nd pulls 248W. Good results. Costed $180 about. Still running . Maybe Black Dog is better but as i said its not really in the price range for the common person
The PAR 700 is an amazing light for the price. I've had several crops under them already in a 3x3 and really like what I see. If the par 1200 had full spectrum control I would have bought that, but I don't regret this purchase at all. Rotate plants everyday for best results as penetration can be an issue for SOG type grows. ScrOG type setups seem to do very well under them. Always looks for something better though! -Smoke Safe-
I own 3 Viparspectra PAR700's, and I have done over a dozen successful grows with them without a problem and with a very high quality product. I also own 3 Viparspectra timer series 900 lights, which are equally amazing. The plants love the light spectrum that these Vipars put out.
Is twilight growth company spider 4s 360w 200true wat enough for a 5x5 tent or should I get 2? Or is there better for under 200$? Full spectrum cob led ?
CLASSIC grew under, metal halide, sodium hid's, electricity use excessive 2 say the least, then the HEAT(causing novices to burn, dry out,&certain dislike of light maybe 2 intense)hot spots are also a problem,u seem 2 b sorted now, can u still use soil setup? all the issues with HID slowly moved me away, you have now given HOPE 4 the future THANX.hope future crops exceed past efforts.AGAIN THANX(from an ole greenfingaz respect. (: .
Very useful information. man. But i don't think Viparspectra should be in the list if you want to introduce the Pricy lights. I used Viparspectra lights for a long time. The quality deserves the price. But right now, i changed to Mars pro II series. I think this series can beat any Viparspectra lights including the model that you show in video.
I cant believe mars hydro isnt on the list.. hell the mars 300 is 79$ shipped to your door and can do 2 autos or 1 decent sized photo period plant start to finish.. 2 mars 300s or one mars 600 can do amazing things
that's amazing things. I just do with Mars ProII 80 and Mars reflector 240W. I I think from last plant should be minimum 80g.Total must be 150g. Really Amazing result
Good video. Though calculating the amount of neccecary light per plant is rather useless, rather go for wattage per square meter/feet. For example if you did S.O.G with 16 Plants per square meter 800w would be way too much or if you had a SCROG with 2 Pants per square meter 100w would be too less. Greetz from Germany
You should give them a review, great lights and they are getting lower in price, good customer service. Full spectrum lights, no fans, very cool temp wise.
Rusty Shackelferd my comment was not meant to be a reply to your Spectrum King comment. I screwed up and didn't realize I was still on your thread when I hit send. I actually like spectrum king. all of their numbers are published. And thanks for all the insults. I expected a little more out of a Grow Tube Round Table guy. Have a good day .
I was going for the Viparspectra, but opted for a Chinese equivalent that was even more cheap per watt and has bloom and veg settings plus the double diode lensed lights, no the reflectors for denser buds it says. ALL NEW HIGH TECH STUFF FOR CHEAP, GROWSTAR IS A GOOD CHOISE!
I have been using one for 3 years. Works great but frankly the plants don't care. Give them light of right intensity and spectrum and they grow as well under a cheap light.
uPONICS, Good video!!! true watt is important! I am using Mars hydro light, pretty nice!!! and cheaper than these lights you said, so how about your idea on Mars lights?
Hello thank you for the awesome video I appreciate the information so much. Here's what I'm doing.. I am taking a 40 foot shipping container and converting it into a grow operation for microgreens microgreens are a initial stage of plants that don't go beyond the initial growth stage not requiring soil or nutrients all the nutrients are inside the seed and we only take it to that level which is our Harvest level. I just want to make sure we don't buy something this way overkill for what we're trying to do plants we have do favor different light spectrums but I wanted to find out your recommendation will have four rows lights running the whole length of the container on both sides possibly a fourth row these containers are 9-foot 6 ft tall and 8 foot 9 in wide and 40 ft long. What would be your recommendation we are trying to run this off of solar exclusively with a battery backup system. We're also running an air conditioning unit and controlling the humidity being the fact that it's a self-contained enclosed environment we need to find the best efficiency we can not to require outside electricity. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated on what type of Lights to use and any other advice you can give us for this type of environment was trying to create. Thank you very much. My email is Patmikfinn@yahoo.com
Hi,Keez.Do you point to this Mars Light? www.ebay.com/itm/Mars-Pro-Epistar-320-LED-Grow-Light-Full-Spectrum-LED-Lamp-Grow-Tent-750W-/222475504893?hash=item33cc92ccfd
I love my Vipaspectrum 900W Reflector Series in a 4×4 it runs cool and it's a very cheap and powerful device that I have found and I did all the research;on about 10 LEDs before I had Amazon Prime send me the Vipaspectrum 900W Reflector series.
That's what pretty much what everyone does is buy from China and flip for twice the price , that's pretty much how everything is bought and sold across the world, you buy for a dollar and you sell for two.
Lewis Latimer one of the most inportant black inventors.? "In 1880, after relocating to Bridgeport, Connecticut, Latimer was employed as the assistant manager and draftsman for U.S. Electric Lighting Company owned by Hiram Maxim. Maxim was the chief competitor to Thomas Edison, the man who invented the electric light bulb. Edison’s light had been composed of a glass bulb which surrounded a carbon wire filament, typically made of bamboo, paper or thread. When the filament was burned inside of the light bulb (which contained almost no air), it grew to be so hot that it literally glowed. Therefore, by passing electricity into the light bulb, Edison had been able to cause the glowing bright light to emanate within a room. Before this the majority of lighting was provided either through candle lights or through gas lamps or even kerosene lanterns. Maxim drastically desired to improve on Edison’s light bulb and focused on the main weakness of Edison’s bulb - their brief life span (typically only a few days.) Latimer set to make a longer lasting light bulb. Latimer developed a way of encasing the filament within a cardboard envelope which prevented the carbon from breaking up and therefore provided a much longer life to the light bulb. This made the light bulbs less expensive and more efficient. This also made it possible for electric lighting to be installed within homes and all through the streets".
An inefficient Driver will cause greater power draw, but says nothing about how much light is being put on the plant. A better measure of comparisson would be Lumens/watt
Lumens are for humans - - To compare LED units you have to look at the PPFD. That is all that matters to the plants. After that, then consider power consumption, heat output, price, etc . . .
Dude, you are totally misleading and wrong. For one the wattage listed for LEDs is in comparison to HIDs. So a 300 watt LED is comparable to a 300 watt hid that's where they get the Watts from. Second fluorescent lights have a place for growing. T12 are the wrong choice but t5s and t5ho have very good output. And the way to measure a good grow light is by par rating. Please correct me if I'm wrong
Heres what I don't understand; how are we supposed to judge one light from another, when there is no way to know the Lumens/watt? All of these lights have an adjustable spectrum, which means that only if you have all colors set to 100% (white) will you be using the full wattage. If you are primarily in the red wavelengths as so many are, then you are not using all the LEDs and therefore not even close to the wattage listed. But wasn't that the point that was made in the beginning; that so much of conventional grow technology light was thrown away since it is useless to the plant, and LEDs can instead produce exactly those wavelengths and so we don't throw away light...but if in order to produce those wavelengths we are letting half the LEDs run dim or off completely because we want to give "full spectrum capability", aren't we, the consumer, still making the same mistake and paying for light (LEDs) that we dont need?
Best led out right now is fluenece bioengineering highest PAR made in USA not China.. they uses TOP BIN leds and good drivers. Check them out I use them I love them.
How come when these types of "best of" videos are made they always seem to exclude the very best competitors? Where are Spydrx and Spectrum king? White light HAS been proven to be healthier for plants and the future of growth in general, then accentuate by supplemental spectrum lighting. So this should have been called, the best non-white light supplimental lights minus The G8-600 Bloom Only Grow Light from DormGrow $899 which was voted 'best LED' light in the STASH awards.
It's funny that you criticise the LED grow light market and continue to make the same (purposely?) mistakes! It's about PAR and PPFD and all that good stuff not just watts from the wall but in relation to PAR. To talk about how many plants is just balony, you can have one cannabis plant that takes up more space then 5 smaller cannabis plants. That's why it's better to talk about the useful light spread covering an area.
Prometheus I have seen the results of fluence spydrx pro first hand and it cost a lot but 3pounds per 4x4 area isn't bad you can run them for 30 years and still have 70% original light output and highest par per watt and I love hps but proof is proof more par than a 1000 watt double ended, more even par dispersion, 50%less cooling,30%less power consumption,30% less fertilizer and 20%less water per month I'm saving over 100 per fixture a month and they last 30 years.
the fact that kindled timer panel cant be switched off for the dark peroid, rings massive alarm bells, they obviously have not done even basic research into phtoperiod plants.....
can these leds be powered on free energy ? ' its always companies selling their equipment ' getting rich off the first time growers ' so nobody really knows if equipment is worth buying or not ? ' where are the videos showing people experiments ( lets see the difference )
Everyone says that his lights is the best, in the fact , on the market, there are a lot of good stuffs, even better than the items on your video, like the food, not the famous restaurant are the best, in fact, the unknown is the best. You need to test more, we have special items on the market, also we offer factory cost, we have Spydrx type led grow light, also some other COB, with CREE etc.
kind led customer service sucks. they make you pay shipping $80 to tell you excuses why theyre going to throw your lamp away but always have refurbished lamps. for my both lamps they said too much dust and thats bad for the tech's health
Not true white Carried green spectrum which is what helps blue and red be absorbed deeper n evenly like uva and green help blue much better as does ir that is also synergistic meaning it plus other spectrum equals better grow than just blue and green smh
This is titled as as "review" but the first 9 minutes was a completely pointless long winded talk about the history of lights. GET ON WITH IT ALREADY, GEESH !!!
MARS HYDRO 320 EPISTAR end of story I've tried almost all of them BlackDog is awesome as well but no better than the 320. Now go see the TITAN. KIND is a RIP-OFF most of these American ones are. Believe me.
Let me save you time researching and money wasted on shit leds, flunce sypderx plus. That's what jungle boys use in veg but ppl are getting close to 3 a light using them in flower they're 1500 bucks I'm running 8 gravitas but I'm moving to a new house and running a recirculating system in grodans and figured I might as well upgrade my lights too
