I consolidated my third party mft lenses and brands I was using through a speed booster not too long ago to go full native. Better weather sealing, better success rate with autofocus etc. Got the 10-25 & 25-50 1.7’s amongst Leica 50-200 and 100-400. Never looked back even after selling my beloved sigma 18-35.
I made the switch from MFT to full frame, cuz my whole setup right now is smaller than the GH6 and 25-50 mm setup that I had. I stuck with mft for its small form factor and it's gone beyond what it used to be. That lens is nice, but it's way too bulky.
Yeah the bulk is a love-hate relationship. For travel, personal use it is massive, for professional shoots with clients on set, product filmmaking for me I actually love the size and the weight. But I get both sides of it! Nice what is also your FF set up now?
What full frame setup are you using now? I'm running the S5 with 24-105, which is very versatile, but I'm looking at the GH7 and 25-50 for the extra video codecs and frame rates.
It's not expensive for a first-party lens! The only comparable first-party OEM zoom lens is the Canon 28-70mm f/2, which is double the price and weight. The only other 1.7 zoom lenses are the Canon Flex Cine zooms, which cost over $20,000. They're not stabilized either and weigh 3.5kg! The only downside for me is that the focus clutch isn't more like the Olympus Pro zoom lenses with hard stops.
You can get it for $1,200 between fall and holiday seasons; also the 25-50. Hands down one of the best! Also, I got mine from Adorama last year at that price.
As a rule Panasonic never have OIS in lensens when focal range is less than 25 mm. Thus, the 25-50 mm f1.7 brother should have had OIS, but I think they wanted to present the same "cinema lens" estetics across these two optics. Could we wish for more f1.7 zooms? I.e. a 6-12 mm and a 50 to 150 mm perhaps.
All I am saying is more and more companies like Sigma are making 28-45 f1.8 for full frames. Time so maybe see the "upgrades of these lenses like f1 😂 but the 50-100 or 50-150 would be a nice addition to this kit making it a nice trio for MFT shooters
I use the 25-50mm version and I would call that one "the best" but it's really subjective. However, I didn't find any similar MFT lens of these capabilities including f/1.7, focal distance and no moving elements out of the lens. 10-25mm is still mostly a wide angle lens and I don't think there is a big reason for f/1.7 because I usually want everyting to be in focus when shooting wide. On the other hand there's a big potencial on the 25-50mm when hunting shallow depth of field. For a wide angle lens I would pick the Leica 8-18mm. Those extra 2mm on the wide end can be handy and the only downside is variable aperture 2.8 - 4.0. It's also much smaller and cheeper. Shooting on 18mm can be a problem in lowlight but 8-12mm is usually engouh so you keep around f/3.0 which is fine and I would set it like that anyway for a proper large depth of field.
@@AoyagiAichou Depends on what you shooting. F/1.7 is the only "advantage" here and only for low light while at least I am not "only low light shooter" (if I were, I would definitely not choose MFT). So the advantage is halved because most people also shoot during day light or in controlled light environment. So I still don't see the advantage of f/1.7 here, you won't get much shallow depth of field anyway on this focal length. Everything else is a downside. It's pricey, big and heavy, the elements are moving out so it's not great for gimbals and as I said in the original post - f/1.7 is not how I use a wide angle lens. If I need a fast wide lens as a backup for low light, let's get Sigma 16mm f/1.4 for cheap.
For sure it is a bit wide starting at 10mm but in full frame equivalent focal range it really is starting at the 20mm focal length and goes to 50mm which that 24-50mm range (personally) is my favorite range when shooting. Starting at 50mm makes it “harder” to get wide establishing shots. If this lens was a 10-35mm 1.7 then I think it would be an amazing all rounder lens for more of those tight detail shots. But if you are zooming in with too a 100mm equivalent using an f4 still will each smooth looking bokeh even on MFT. But for sure both those lenses combined make a power combo!
@@MatthewDangyou I always dread this question, so I'll just list those I use for work - G100, G90, G9, and the S5. The 10-25 would hopefully replace my 8-18 and the 25mm f1.4 ii - not sure 10mm is going to be enough for wide though. And the G9ii would be mostly to improve IF performance (subject recognition) and give me somewhat better ergonomics.
@@AoyagiAichou If you are fine with still pulling focus then 10-25mm is an amazing option! Other things to consider is potentially the S5ii and Build a Bundle on BHPhoto. Might cost a bit more but you can a bunch of lenses and full frame. But having the PDAF will make you want to fully upgrade all older cameras 😅
@@MatthewDangyou Yeah, we don't have B&H in Britain, haha. I'm using the S5 only when I know the gig is going to involve super low light situations, really. Otherwise I prefer MFT. Thanks though!
It's a very good lens, it is really sharp from 10mm to 20mm and become slighly softer at the long end wide open. What is interesting with this lens is its rendering, it has very good local contrast, even better than the 15mm and 25mm Panasonic Leica primes. However, I use the 25-50mm much more, it has even better local contrast and I think it has slightly nicer colors. I also have some great lenses for my full frame cameras like the 50mm S Pro, 24-70mm S Pro or 35mm GM, I can say these lenses are sharper than both my 10-25mm and 25-50mm, but the 10-25mm/25-50mm (especially the 25-50mm) have something special about the visual of lights and shadows, it is not something you can see when shooting in bad light like like in too much dark or too much bright environnements though.
For sure! For me I love the size but that is because I personally just enjoy bigger lenses and bigger rigs (especially when I’m on paying client shoots😅) but for travel yeah this lens is a chunky boy
I have to stop the video and congratulate you on being the first online person that I hear accurately explain that the bokeh and depth of field will be f3.5 but the light gathering f1.7. Everyone seems to just multiply the f stop and not realize that you do still get the light of what the lens is.
Thought about adding this to my creator setup as i have the S5iix and the G85 but given the price of this thing, i think I’ll just sell the G85 w/lens and get another S5iix body since i have the 24mm, 35mm and 50mm L lens

I have this lense with my GH6 for a year and a half now It is my most used lens for profesionnal work, it’s insane how much it made my life easier during video shoot The extra wide angle from 12 to 10 is insanely usefull And having a zoom at f1.7 is so usefull for video shooting on MFT, it makes my GH6 absolutely capable in low light situation
