Best light stands to buy

Knowing what light stands to buy so you dont waste your money can be tricky at first with so many brands etc.. So I put together this little video to give you some pointers on brands I recommend. I like to use Manfrotto gear as I have done for the last 15 years or so. Its not perfect but pretty good reliable gear to own. So here I am making a decision on light stands, and here you are eight years on helping me to make it! Thank you, this was more helpful than I can express. You just reminded me of why and how much I liked Manfrotto gear. Going to order some now. Hope you're doing well.

Thank you so much for making this video. I was in the market for light stands- specifically Manfrotto, but couldn't tell much from the different web sites. This is exactly what I needed to make up my mind. +Manfrotto should give you some love for this!

for location work, I can't stress the benefit of the flat-laying feature enough. that's such a benefit for me that I'm buying the 3 pack plus a travel bag for them. If you haven't seen the Manfrotto nano stands (goes up to 6ft), I would recommend those with an appropriate attachment for holding your reflectors, especially if you throw a weight on it to keep it secure. They're great for travel but they don't hold a lot of weight so you wouldn't want to use anything more than a speedlite and a medium softbox on those.

Can you gice any reason for choosing the 1004 BAC over the 1005BAC?

I have four of the nano stands currently. I chose them specifically for the ability to narrow the footprint. Can these stands to do the same?

Good advice; those "cheapies" can often be tempting, but eventually they disappoint. I noticed in one of your earlier videos you were shooting a couple with two speedlites rather high up and behind you facing down on them, without any modifiers. DO you have, or are you planning to make a video about using bare flash?

Awesome vid!! i was looking to learn if the Manfrotto 1004BAC would be a good light stand for the Profoto B1 and u answered that question. The nice add-on was the alternative solution for the weight bag. Nice.... Also... I think your Turtle might be a bit of a diva... as turtle was all in for trying to hog the camera....lol... In either case, excellent video....

I did contact the people at VestGuys, but they only sell the circular sand bags empty. I am not that advanced yet, so I have decided to wait on that item. They did have other interesting products worth looking at another time. Thanks again for sharing your experience and have a wonderful day.

Can the 1004 and 1005 be stacked together?

I did find out 1004 and 1005 will clip together, By steve Y. I own this stand and a 1005. These two models will clip together for storage. Only differences are the additional section in the 1004 and the removeable stud in the 1005. The stud can also be oriented horizontal in the 1005 if that matters to you. Both stands move smoothly and lock securely. Air cushioning is very nice, though one stand is not quite as tightly damped as the other. There's an allen screw in the clamps that looks like it might adjust the air valving, but I haven't messed with it yet. I've had both for ~ 3 months with light use. No issues yet and these are at the top of my list for future stand purchases. Only way these could get better is if all the models in this series would stack together, but some of the smaller models have smaller foot spreads so I'm assuming the plates won't line up when collapsed. Highly recommended
