Hey there, this is such a useful review thank you! In particular your side by side comparison is amazing as this is the only time I have seen monitors compared with "flat colour" content! That truly reveals the quality of the panels - no other way to find out about light bleed and colour uniformity otherwise. Recently bought the BENQ 2700U and decided to return it because of that (flat colours appear like 'gradients', a killer for any graphic designer). So I'm considering the 2725U instead... Fingers crossed this is worth the extra cost! Cheers!

Yeah I’ve been using it for a while and it’s amazing. Now I am moving toward hdr videos and it’s perfect and really accurate for colour grading as well. Happy to help you

The reason why I’m considering a 27 inch is for a 2 monitor setup. 2 32 inch monitors would be a little over the top. Thanks for the review. I have one of each on order from amazon for when they are back in stock.

Yeah I was referring to a single monitor setup for the 32”, agree that a double 32 setup would be overkill. I have been using a 49” superultrawide for 1 year and it’s like 2 27 without bazel in the middle. Resolution wise is better 2 4k display

How will this monitor work for photography? I am a hobbyist and not a professional. I have ordered the new M1 Pro 14 inch MacBook Pro trading in my 5K Intel iMac. I noticed it doesn’t have an Adobe RGB setting but probably covers the color space based on the P3 numbers. There are some features I like on this series not available on the SW series. Thanks.

Hi, I use it mainly for video editing on 4k hdr timelines and it’s really good. I am not super expert in photo but I really appreciate the possibility to easily switch color profiles and the colours are very rich. Congratulations on the m1 pro I really love it but I think it’s overkill for me right now because my m1 Mac mini is great. I have preordered the Sony a7iv and I’m not sure how it will handle the h265 10 but 4/2/2 footage

The 27" is sharper and clear than the 32".
@ShadesOfTech
@ShadesOfTech 2 года назад
Yeah but at 4k resolution they are pretty similar and I prefer a bigger screen, I think it's worth the small loss of extra sharpness

Just bought one today. Very happy that you're recommending these. Just wondering, are the speakers any good? I'm only using stock MBP speakers for some music during work but I was hoping the BENQ speakers would be similar.

Really happy you found this video helpful. The speakers aren’t bad but they don’t match screen quality. I usually edit with wired headphones.

I bought the BenQ PD 3220u monitor and I'm not 100% happy with it. Color is ok, image quality too, and brightest is not good. Did you calibrate the monitor with an external software. Im playing with the BenQ app to get a with more the color I need but still found is too dark. Any suggestions to improve this issue? Cheers

Hi, with mine brightness lever are great, I compared with my previous hdr 10 display and it’s clear that it’s far superior especially in hdr bright contents. Mine is factory calibrated so I didn’t calibrate any further. Why do you say that it’s too dark? What test did you do?

Hi there! Does this monitor get bright enough for daytime use in front of a window? My iMac gets more than bright enough for my needs, but my cheaper LG monitor only gets 250 nits or so and it's pretty dim next to my iMac.
@ShadesOfTech
@ShadesOfTech 2 года назад
This monitor has HDR 400 so gets up to 400 nits of peak brightness so I would say yes it should work even if I didn’t test it next to a window

Hey - thanks for the review. Are you able to test the TB3 hub features at all? The dream would be to connect the laptop to this monitor for charging and all data, then connect further peripherals to the TB downstream port... So - Laptop -> PD2725U -> (50m TB3 cable) -> TB3 hub -> (DAS/DVD drive/Timemachine backups/Audio/10GB Ethernet adaptor etc etc et) So you can have a full setup, but it's all hidden in a cabinet, leaving you with a really clean desk. If you're able to test anything like that it would be amazing!
@ShadesOfTech
@ShadesOfTech 2 года назад
Hi, I'm not able to test this, but in theory you could do that. Just pay attention that 50 m of thunderbolt cable are really expensive and I am not sure about speed loss over length. Also you pass everything through one tb3 cable so for sure when you use multiple things there will be bottlenecks
@atjbramley
@atjbramley 2 года назад
@@ShadesOfTech yeah, both of those things are fine, the long cables are super expensive but seem to do the job in TB3 speed (the TB2 ones burnt out after a year according to reviews and were just as expensive... ), and yes, 40Gb per cable. Just want to check it'll actually work before committing. It should do yes, and the TB spec is quite strict, but can't find anyone who's tested it. BenQ say it's unsupported, the only thing the second TB port is specced for is a daisy chained monitor, which is disappointing.

@ShadesOfTech
@ShadesOfTech 2 года назад
Then this is designed for you! I was really surprised by how good colours are especially in hdr, nothing I ever experienced with other monitors. I think it’s totally worth it and recommend it. However as I usually say, try to get one and see for yourself if it’s worth the money for you. If not just return it, there’s nothing wrong with it. Just keep in mind it’s 27”, I personally prefer 32”. Also it’s 2021 model, not sure if 2022 models are out yet, hope it gelps

I have a Benq PD2720U, which is the predecessor i believe. After 1-2 years of extensive use i found serious issues with it, and my question was if the PD2725U improved on that. The biggest concern is compatibility: this monitor refuses to work with many HDMI sources, and essential will not take unusual frequencies, like 24Hz. Your video is 24fps. On a 60Hz fix panel 24 fps or 25 or 50 are no fun, they look choppy, which beats the idea of "cinematic look". I wonder if this model finally allowed you to set the refresh rate to 24, 25, 50 Hz?
@ShadesOfTech
@ShadesOfTech 3 года назад
Yeah I use it with my Mac mini via hdmi at full 4k 60 hdr without any problem so I guess they fixed that.
@TheHollermann
@TheHollermann 3 года назад
@@ShadesOfTech fixed what? all monitors come with 60Hz native panels, ofcourse they work with the 60Hz Mac Mini. My question was the other freqencies, like 24. Can you even change the refresh rate setting on your mac anything other than 60? I doubt, since i checked the user manual for this time. This monitor is basically the same PD2720U. A 24fps timeline (like you used) on a 60Hz panel (like your or my Benq monitor) stutters when it supposed to display smooth motion. Just looks jittery-jerky in an ugly way. Some people think that makes it cinematic, but cinema is about motion blur, not jerkiness. If you had doubts, check your video at 0:04 to see the panning or 0:10 for tilting. Check it on a 24/120/240 Hz capable display to realize that the motion is actually smooth. This means that that HDMI incompatibility is likely there still: anything non 60Hz source might have issues. These include Blackmagic, Atomos, Convergent Design devices, cameras (Canon EOS R5 and C70 all have issues) or the Framemeister simply won't appear or appear wrong on these BENQs. My suggestion: use a 30 or 60Hz timeline or forget this monitor. The failure rate is mentionable too, mine suffers from a small group of brighter pixels when the background is bright. They refused to fix it. How will i sell mine now? Since i can not see improvement from the PD2720U, i strongly recommend against this monitor for videographers: the colors are nice, but once you try to be "cinematic" or produce for PAL regions (25/50Hz), forget about smooth sliding, tilting, panning, scrolling or anything like that. Btw, if you did not care about fix 60Hz, then the newly released LG Ultrafine Oled probably is the way to go. For those who need good color accuracy and alternative refresh rates the Eizo CS2740 was probably the best bet (and the 5 year warranty and support will save your investment). Btw the current 16" MBP or the Apple XDR Cinema do support special frequencies, though they have no HDMI or DP input.
