I loved this video and really loved the stove door that you found when you were quite young. I am 63 years old and started out over 40 years ago with a Whites 6000Di. In all of my years of detecting I made my best find with that machine. I found a ton of silver because back in those days no one else was metal detecting baseball field and they were loaded. The machine had a neat needle that swept across the screen when you hit a target. My favorite find was at my family’s homestead. I found a beautiful gold signet ring and ran into the house and asked my grandmother if she knew anything about the ring. She said “oh my goodness, that was my mothers ring… she put it on the windowsill when she took a shower, and since we did not have screens, a big black bird came and carried it away, because it was shiny.” I still have the beautiful ring that would have been etched with the letter F for Flora, and I still have my beloved Whites 6000 DI in the basement.

That's a great story!! What an amazing and fortunate series of lucky events to lead to that ring being found after all those years. Thank you for the view and comment. I remember having a 6000di for a while and really went through batteries!

We have a buddy that has a ML explorer 2. It's his only detector. It has duct tape holding the coil on and the control head. Then some black electrical tape wrapped around the coil plug where it plugs in pulling pressure to the side so it remains connected. He detects very different from the rest of us. He kinda trots so a jog holding the coil out in front with no sweeping. Just holds it out there and coil is hanging at an angle due to being taped on. He trots along covering so much ground. He stops if he gets a hit and he does a little wiggle over the target. He also stops about every 8 to 15 minutes when the detector shuts off. He whacks the side a few times plays with the plug it comes back on and away he goes again trotting a long. Crazy part is this guy finds stuff. He easily finds just as much as any one of the rest of us going slow with our perfect machines. It's actually a site to see and Incredible how he does it. He refuses to get a new detector. Says his works perfectly.

I love this story! I'm going to pin this comment so others can read it. I couldn't even imagine seeing this in action. The Explorer 2 was an incredible machine that just slayed the parks for about 5 years, the guys that had them were getting hundreds of silver coins every year that all the other machines missed. I don't think that Minelab would repair and E2 anymore but it sure would be nice for him to be able to buy a replacement of the same machine or get that one fixed. What part of the country is he from? Thanks for watching the video and for your awesome comment!

I'm in the UK and have exactly the same Radio Shack detector from when I was a kid. Mine is just the same as yours, all boxed and still working.... Very cool!

Hah, nice! It was really neat to be able to turn it back on again and listen to it I honestly have not used it in all these years until I made this video. Sure does bring back a lot of memories. Thank you for the view and for your comment!

I had the exact metal detector... probably 1976 or 77...I found plenty of deep beer cans. Thanks for posting this video. Good memories.

I was really hoping that someone would comment that also had one of these. Wonder what the retail cost was on these back then?? 🤔 Thanks for the view and comment!

We’re the same age, it seems and this brings me back to my first metal detector was white plastic. No sound, only a small red light would illuminate when over metal.

Hah, I never remember seeing an old machine that just had a light. It was lots of fun taking some of the older machines out again. Thank you again for your view of another one of my videos and for taking the time to leave a comment!

I started in 1973 with a Jetco TreasureHawk BFO. I still use the Exp II, and it's still a great detector! Cheers Mark! Those flutey tones.

I have never heard of the Jetco TreasureHawk BFO I will have to look that one up. I had a tricked out Explorer 2 SE Pro with full Sunray Probe setup, wish I had never sold it. 🙃 Hope all is well, thanks for the view and comment!

I can see where the etrac got its tones. I remember those radio shack detectors. I wanted one too, but my parents saw no use for it. Very cool that you kept it all these years in such great shape. I started when I was about 38, with an old original Garrett Sea Hunter that was vlf, not a pi, and a Whites 6000di (big blue box). Both ate batteries like crazy.
@BrassMedic
@BrassMedic Год назад
We were all so disappointed when the E-Trac came out and didn't have the exact same tones (same with the CTX) but the tones on the CTX were sure better than the very robotic and non-musical tones of the E-Trac but neither were as good as the Explorer, hoping to hear these tones again soon in a future machine 🤔🤫🤭 Yes I remember batteries would barely make it through a single day hunt on the old 6000Di Pro. I used to use the Excalibur and Excalibur II quite a bit back in my surf detecting days. Thanks for the comment and view!!!

I started off with a Radio Shack detector around 1978, but it was a different model. I do remember finding a silver quarter with it in my yard. My first "real" detector was a Garrett Groundhog in 1980.

We have a lot in common then!! I remember finding a few coins the first time I ever used it, I think my first detector was an old Compass around 1981. Really appreciate you watching the video and leaving a comment!

Awsome video I have a few old cool detectors in mint condition. 1. A rare Arado 320 Saxon x1 hybrid prototype only one made. 2 Nautilus DMC 2BA. 3 Red Heat MK2 black. And a minelab Explorer XS :) which I used last week lol :) great video
@BrassMedic

I'm jealous, I just love the old detectors! Never heard of the Arado, or Red Heat here in the states. I spent a lot of countless hours on the end of a Fisher 1265x, 1266x and 1270x and did very well with them. I have never owned a Tesoro but maybe someday I'll start an old Tesoro collection. When I first started the Only machines you could really find here were the Compass or Whites machines. My first nice detector I bought and paid for with my own money was a Whites 5900 di Pro. ! Thanks for the view and comment! I get a little excited talking about the old machines! 🤠

I never bought a V3 but that machine was way ahead of it's time to say the least! Might have to get one someday just to try 😊 XLT was a great jewelry machine! Thank you for the view and comment!

Wow. Our paths may have crossed. I'm very familiar with the black diamond mines, grew up in Antioch and graduated in 74 from Antioch high school. My father had a detector in the early 70s that I used a few times. I didn't get into detecting till the mid ninetys. Had a whites coin master and in 95 got a fisher gold bug that I still have. I've also owned a garrett ace 250 about 15 years ago and recently bought an xterra pro.

I was the class of 82' Yes I remember going up to Nortonville, Judsonville, West Hartley and Somersville way before they were all East Bay Regional Parks. Grew up in those foothills just South of town. Was a fun childhood full of awesome adventures! I can just imagine the stuff I didn't hear with this little detector but now it's all a very protected park system where now detector can ever go again. Worked at Antioch PD from 88' to 92' before I went on to become a Firefighter-Paramedic in East Contra Costa County. Thanks for the view and comment!!

Took my whites tdi out last night to an old church over the manticore lol. No shame in going back I still give my old machines a run every now and then. Found 2 wheats and 2 merry widow condom tins in a place I've hunted many times. Old machines still work great it's all situational 🤷

Awesome, was hoping to see comments like this. Definitely fun to go back to an old machine and change things up a little. Will do this more often. Now I have to try and find an old Fisher 1266x 😛 Thanks for the view and comment!

Yea I love the old Nautilus I have you can see videos of guys using them. It's such a shame Alfie Tindle died as that detector if developed futher I'm sure would have become a world favourite
@BrassMedic
@BrassMedic 11 месяцев назад
Didn't know about circuit designer passing away, I can see what you mean though. That machine was always ahead of its time. Out of your vintage machines, which is your favorite? Or rate them from 1 to 4?
@chrisleigh777
@chrisleigh777 11 месяцев назад
Hmm hard choice but I would have to chose my Arado 320 Saxon x1 hybrid as it's as deep seeking as the Nautilus but deeper on gold and also has a red backlit meter that is very very accurate on iron.

No doubt, we have not dug in a park in several years and came ill prepared. As you can see in all of my old park videos from 10 years ago, we always used a mat to pile dirt on. This is a great tip to anyone else reading this, makes cleanup way easier and quicker. Care is always taken in nice lawns and grass to leave no evidence of the dig. Thanks for the view and comment!
