FYI This video is out of the ordinary. The Platform build series and this video are meant to be in depth videos. I promise 45 minutes videos is not becoming the norm.
Received it from amazon tonight. Took about 1.5 hours to install start to finish! Thanks so much! Such an incredible upgrade! I got it mostly for the apple CarPlay and I couldn’t be happier. Easiest thing ever to install and I’ve never done anything like this before. Perfect video! I will be sure to forward to others!
@@jasoncampeau2948 in my case it froze once in very high temperatures, over 100 degrees, also sometimes it sounds like it skip a bit while streaming music, other than that it's been good
Thanks for the helpful video! Like many others had noted, I also had the USB port next to the 12V power outlet not working. After double checking all my connections I realized I had forgot to plug in the USB harness mentioned at minute 39:10. After I connected that to the USB connector coming from the 4Runner it works as it used to. Hope this helps anyone who had the same issue. Cheers!
This was the best video and helped us finish it especially when it came to the rewire part. Took us about 1.5 hours, I messed my husband up by thinking something that came off the old radio needed to be on this one. At first I thought apple car play wasn’t working but once I turned my phone off and back on it connected instantly. 10/10 recommend getting this radio & I swear it’s so much louder than my factory radio.
Just installed mine. Thanks so much for this! They shipped mine with OS ver 11 and the latest MCU so that was nice as well. Wireless CarPlay is so nice and works well so far. Sound from stock speakers is def better.
The Dasaita unit is so light, I left the brackets off of mine. Have had it over a year and no issues so far, but my off-roading is mostly at the beach with sand. So if you find the brackets a little off, you can leave them off. The unit will snap in with the clips and be nice and tight in there. No rattling.
Would love to get this upgrade, but not sure if it is compatible with 4 cameras (Multi-Terrain Monitor system). Anyone have an answer to this question? Not sure why Toyota is insisting on dragging their feet and keeping with a small screen system.
Great install video. Is there any way you could make a features video or you using it and showing the response time? I’m very intrigued to see how it actually operates from someone who has had this installed for a few months.
I see a lot of people recommending these but with the bugs and what seems like no real support or warranty I don’t think I would go this route. I’ve heard a few people that had dead units after a couple months and they could not get a replacement or money back.
Yeah it happens but at this price compared to some other companies with similar track records, at least you could try twice? Haha. I know like 50-100 people that have been satisfied. Maybe just go through Amazon for some extra customer protection worst case?
Quick question: do you have to actually take off the center plastic console (the one with the cupholders around the shifter)? Is that just to route the microphone wire? I get nervous since those plastic clips only have so many snaps in 'em.
Hey super detailed video everything works great except when I put it in reverse the back cam had a yellow triangle on the screen with a black exclamation mark. I’ve re watched it multiple times and double checked the plug. If you know any fixes it would be greatly appreciated
Great video I am very interested in this unit and just trying to figure out some functions this unit offers before I purchase it. But it seems to be a great idea. And way better looking than the stock head unit. Thanks a lot for the video.
I have a 2010 4Runner Limited. I installed the radio but for some reason the rear speakers aren't working. Does anyone have an idea of what I may have done wrong?
If you are using Android auto only you shouldn't need that gps antenna correct? Not really a fan of having to add things that the vehicle is already wired for ie mic, antenna, etc.
I suppose not. If the vehicle systems installed don’t interface well with the headunit, I think that is maybe why they include additional things to install. I presume if only using android auto you will just want to make sure WiFi/Bluetooth antenna is connected and potentially microphone. My microphone has been doing a weird background noise subtraction or something so I have to look into that. Why are you so against it?
Hey! Thank you so much for this detailed video. It helped tons, and the unit looks great in my 2019 4Runner. Just a quick question, the USB/aux port in my car no longer works. Doesn't charge my phone/connect wired CarPlay. It's weird because the cigarette charger port next to it works. Any idea on why this might be?
Interesting…my thought is that somehow those aren’t plugged into the head unit right. The cig power comes through different wires but I think the usb is data only not charging and the headphone is obviously for the headunit. Maybe double check those cables. Follow them from the ports to the back of the headunit just to make sure? That’s the best I can think of…hope that helps!
Thank you for this detailed video. I’ve had mine a year and love it besides the mic issue. I regretfully tossed the box and want to install the external mic, do you happen to know what kind of plug is needed? I already have the basic external mic plug but it looks like there is an adaptor that is needed to plug into the stereo.
I bought the same video. Plugged everything I thought needed to be plugged in. Seemed like everything but the back up camera worked. Unplugged everything and reinstalled it only to have the am/fm radio in shuffle mode and beeping nonstop.... not sure why. After seeing this video I’ll unplug the camera connection you said to do and see if that works. Why would the radio shuffle be stuck on and how do you think I get t to stop?
When those sorts of things happen it makes me think you have the wrong software or adapters for the stock stuff…it may be worth asking support if you need something extra for your year. That is bizarre
Hey great video..just updated the mcu but I didn’t solve my issue with me rear speaker does not sound as powerful as my front speakers !! Any way to fix that ?? Maybe original head unit comes with some soft of amplifier for the rear 4 speakers ? Help me sos
I appreciate the detailed installation for the unit in really came in handy! I first installed my unit w/o the hdmi port however it was something I would want to connect in the future. I did just that yesterday and when I connect my iPhone via the hdmi to lightning cable my iPhone displays a “screen mirror” symbols and display but I don’t get any video or audio feed to the unit. Have you done this as well or know of anyone to successfully use the hdmi port for apple or android devices?
I'm having trouble with the front camera install. It seems that it will not come on. I follow you guide to install. But question did you leave the red and blk and red wire not grounded and connected to battery?
I can’t seem to connect the Dasaita 10.25” on to my 2017 4runner limited , some of the harness connections don’t seem to match Can u please help recommend a professional to knock this off , near Dallas Fort-worth area tx
Thanks for the video I greatly appreciate it just purchased mine and started installing it unfortunately my rearview camera isn’t working so I got to backtrack
Same! I get a yellow diamond with an exclamation point when I put it in reverse. I've played around with the yellow cables etc. It seems there's a missed connection somewhere. Any fix to this?
Do you know how to set up the steering wheel buttons so that Siri will work through them? Zlink has a button configuration tab but it doesn’t work the the way it should.
Hi. It's been a couple of years now since you uploaded this video. My question: How is the unit working after 2 years? Are there any problems, large or small, that you've seen w/ the unit since installation? Great video, btw.
Great video! Just installed mine last night. I noticed that now my USB/AUX chord connection doesn’t work now that I’ve installed the Daisata head unit. Any idea why this would be the case?
great video, helped me a lot! one question i have. after install how did you terminate the 2 USB cables coming from the head unit? for now u just have them coming out from under the unit where the USB port and AuX used to come out of. any product anyone can recommend that will fit?
@@OverlandEngineer it doesnt look like the original AUX/USB port is working anymore (should it?) so i need to replace it with a OEM size USB for wired connection/charging/flash drive. maybe im missing something? how did anyone else connected their USB cables to the car?
Zach, how is this unit still holding out? I would love to hear how it's holding up. Want to install it in my 2017 sr5 but the Amazon reviews have not showed promise
Great video, but has anyone had issues with the lcd going out? I installed as per video in my 2018 4runner offroad and it worked great for half of the day. That afternoon when backing into a parking spot the lcd quit working. The radio still plays Bluetooth and the side buttons light up with the headlights/ Hazard button works just no display. Has anyone had this issue/ know where to troubleshoot? Fuses are good and I have tried unplugging each connection 1 at a time to see of a certain wire was causing the issue to no avail. Thanks!
Great video! How has it held up a year later? I’ve heard they start off great, then bugs start to appear after a few months. Has this been your experience?
Very good video and very detailed. One thing and maybe I missed it. is the front camera available for viewing in the menu ? And if so is the Rear camera also visible anytime ? Hope that makes sense. Thanks !!
Are any special connections needed for the hazard button/lights to work? A company installed mine and they are saying my old connect won't fit with this unit and I can't find the answer anywhere else 😫
Did someone put it in for 2012 4runner? I have a white connector on bot head unit and car that I cannot connect and rear camera is not connected that way. It looks like some harness is missing
Great informative video .. I want to install a front camera and also a dash camera..do you have a dash camera hooked up also or just the one front camera in the grill ....I am wondering how to go about hooking both front facing cameras up
Hmm...you could maybe get some switch splitter that would allow you to switch between the two front cameras. Sounds kind of complicated and needs a specific part but doable. I would probably keep a dash cam separate...but thats just me.
Hello, very informative video. I had this installed recently by a shop but cannot get the steering wheel to connect. Anyway you know how to troubleshoot that? I want my steering wheel controls to work, thank you
Not quite sure if my situation will apply because my amp may have been different than the JBL systems in the limiteds. So this might just be better for the protune speaker systems. But, I went into the equalizer and played, changing the gains etc. That helped a ton for my system. As for clarity, I noticed the built in bluetooth was not near as good as the apple carplay or android auto modes. Maybe that can help you?
Thanks for the video it’s very informative. I was wondering if you know if you can use any obd2 Bluetooth and if you can use a version wireless usb dongle for the WiFi?
thanks for video. Working on a 2013 forerunner and everything working on the new Dasaita head unit but can NOT get the factory backup camera to function. The harness from the car that runs the backup camera (6 wire pin clip) has no place to plug in on the new Dasaita cable harness. The Dasaita harness has 1 wire that says "back" on it but unclear what to do with that....I tried splicing that "Back" wire to the "red" wire from the car with no luck........any suggestions HELP please!
Great video I am very interested in this unit for my 4runner 2011 premium with no navigation simple radio and cd player, back up camera is display in rear view mirror. I am just trying to figure out if this unit will work in my 4runner before I purchase it. I will appreciate your help in this regard. Thanks Please guide me I want this for sure.
How about a long term review of the unit. Still working as desired or would you go with the T10 or something else? Seems like an awesome unit, but I’m just curious of long term review? Thanks for great video.
You can just use a usb port from the included adapters. The adapters add 3 extra usb ports and you only need one for the vehicle information. Hope that helps!
Thanks for the video! I actually installed mine a couple days before you posted it. Fortunately very easy install. Quick question how has your mic performance been? Mine works great with SIRI but seems to struggle inconsistently during CarPlay phone calls. I installed the external mic but still seems to have that issue.
Overland Engineering! Great video, it really helped me alot with the install! I had a question, are you able to Facetime with someone while using Carplay in the 4Runner?
Does the oem usb port in your 4Runner connects to the android auto/Apple Car play? Mine just charges. I'm able to connect via any the usb ports in the the big harness.
@@OverlandEngineer Thank you for the reply. It worked with the oem usb port where the headphone jack is. I saw some reviews where someone oem mic was working. I will try it. Again thank you.
Thanks for your video, without it I wouldn’t have been able to install the unit in my 2013 4Runner since there are no instructions provided. Up until two days ago things were working well, unfortunately now I have no radio or CarPlay sound (beeps from volume adjustment work though). Reaching out to see if you have any idea what I could do to get my sound back? Dasaita help desk hasn’t been able to fix my issue. Thanks much.
@@OverlandEngineer Wow, thanks for the quick reply. I sure did, Dasaita sent me the harness specific to the 10-13 model (though they also sent me what must be the other years’ harness as well). Worked fine until a couple nights ago, woke up and had no sound from the radio or CarPlay.
@@Gnargoyle811 That is so bizarre. It just seems like a harness is not getting connection to the speakers if you ask me...Was it not quite plugged in all the way?
So just to be clear, if I get a 2010 4Runner SR5 that has the stock car stereo with no Bluetooth I can install this and will have CarPlay and can stream by music from my phone to my car speakers?
That should be do-able. I would double check with their customer service. Email the official website and they should be able to help you. I believe you need a special harness which they can help you with that I believe is not included in the standard amazon one.
@@od1485 Well I would presume if compatibility works out, you will be upgrading your stock radio to this headunit with a couple extra harnesses and then get all the functionality of the new headunit so you should have wireless carplay and bluetooth, etc! I think someone else on RU-vid has done this to their 2010-2013 5th gen 4Runner. I am optimistic it works, I think you just have to have customer service send one or two extra adapter harnesses.
that little plastic piece at 22:17 is a huge mystery. Toyota cant seem to give me a part number. If you ever take it apart, I would love to have the part number. Mine is missing in my 2019.
Very informative video, I know nothing about these things but will be installing it on my own.I have a sub in my 4runner, anything I need to know to get it hooked up to the Dasaita head unit ? Thanks in advance.
This is a super helpful video, so thank you! My issue is that when I put it in reverse, i get a yellow diamond with an exclamation point on the headunit, and everything stops. Looks like there's probably a missed connection somewhere or a missing ballast potentially. any suggestions for a fix for this?
Hey man! Great video. Question: I have a 2013 4Runner SR5 with a basic factory head unit. I was wondering if I buy this Dasaita head unit, will I be able to buy an aftermarket rear view and/or front view camera as well (like in your video) and connect it to the head unit? My car does not currently have any rearview camera. I wanted to buy it separately and connect it to the Dasaita head unit if possible. Would that work? If so, do you have a suggestion for an aftermarket rearview camera?
That seems like it would work fine! I think that investing in a decent camera is probably good idea at least for the back up camera. Mine is ok for the front but I kind of regret not spending more on a nicer model. Make sure to still reach out to Dasaita because you need a special wiring harness for yours since its 2010-2013. If I had to guess though, it should work for you! If I remember correctly, basically the headunit comes with a harness that converts the stock headunit connection for a back up camera into a yellow RCA plug. Since you do not have a back up camera, instead of plugging in the factory harness adapter you would just plug in a 3rd party camera. That would be my guess but again probably good to also check in with Dasaita customer service. I have found their website email is best rather than some of the others for other stores.
Hey bro for cameras check out NextBase cameras. I picked mine up at Walmart for 140. This set up is a bit different. The front facing camera also has an optional rear facing camera that attaches to the front facing camera. So both the rear facing and back facing are together. The two cameras are seperate so if you prefer you can unhook the rear facing one and put it in the back. Or you can just by the front facing camera by itself...it's a unique setup that work for me (but I all ready have a rear view camera i.e. 2015 sr5) NextBase is out of the UK
Thanks OE for your responses to my previous inquires...sorry about that repeat question I did not think it got posted...so I am still confused about to what you connected the USB thingy coming out of the head unit to the what wire coming from the 4runner? I might have missed it but I watched it several times and can't figure it out.
Hopefully you have the adapter but there will be a plug coming out of the factory wire harnesses that should plug into a single adapter harness that will create a stock harness to male usb conversion. Then you will plug that into the usb port coming from the wire connected to the Dasaita. Message me on instagram with pictures if it is still confusing and I can try to help. What year 4Runner do you have?
@@OverlandEngineer I have a 2015 sr5 premium and I do have the adapter so i am going to pull the dasaita out later today to put in front cam I will prob hit you up then if ur available..also I saw your vid on the grenade. Currently I am rocking the pedal comander do you think the grenade is better? My girlfriend Hannah and I gave you some props to those guys at grenade and they sent her a 100 dollar off promo code. They also said they were going to get your back also because we told them about your awesome vid about their product . I am just wondering do you think it is 200 (price after 100 promo code) dollars better than pedal commander? It is a lot sleeker with better command modes that's for sure
Is it called the grenade? I might be off on that. Currently the guys are doing a promo in AU to try before you buy for a few weeks for like 8 bucks but it's only popping off in AU
@@mango1554 Thanks! Yeah I love it. I have not had the pedal commander myself but I really love the throttle grenade. I am pretty sure with the $100 off that it is a great deal too compared to the other throttle controllers. I have not stopped using mine. The truck is so much more responsive. You do have to get used to it because the throttle is more touchy but I am now and its amazIng. I wouldn't go back. lost like 0.2 mpg but totally worth it to me. I always use intel typically or offroad+
Yeah it might already honestly. I think it comes with an additional mic just for the phone but I am not really sure. You would think that would be straight forward.
Hey, super useful video. One question, once it’s all setup and CarPlay or Android Auto is setup, how long from turning the key on a cold start until it’s connected to the phone and the CarPlay/AndroidAuto UI is pulled up?
Thanks! It depends. You can turn on fast boot which helps and I find if you phone is unlocked it pairs faster. Not sure though…maybe 5-10 seconds? Most apple CarPlay is kind of slow since there is a pairing process
Hello again! Finally got the camera to work! Have you been able to switch out images? And also is there a ratio adjustment available for the camera? Otherwise what a cool system! Wish I would have done this to my Runner a long time ago!
