Thanks for the great informative review. I’m getting ready to do my first build & this looks like the board for me. Appreciate the way you went over all the connections in detail with this, nice job.
This board and the ASRock B450M Pro4 are the best and only m-ATX B450 boards I'd recommend to anyone. I'm running the Pro4 with a Ryzen 5 3600 and it's fantastic.
I'm starting a new PC build with the ASRock Steel Legend, w/ a Ryzen 5 3600 6-core CPU, Consair Vengeance RGB PRO 16GBs RAM, Samsung EVO 970 500GBs SSD, Thermaltake SMART 600W PSU, and a GeForce GTX 1660. And the case I've chosen for it is a SAMA-G3-ARGB with a Cooler Master ARGB 3-Pack set. I've bought most of the components. All I need now is the ASRock, GeForce, and a good RGB CPU Fan, and secondary HDD drive. The only beef I'm having is the case's ARGB HUB on the cable-manage side of the back panel, which uses 5V 3-pin for the LEDS, but 3-pins for the fan itself, as the 3-pack I bought has 4-pins. So I'm just linking the 3-pack's 5V 3-pin to the hub, while the 4-pins connect to the Power Supply.
Agree that the ASRock 450M Steel Legend is definitely the best AM4 B450 MATX board available. It used to be the ASRock B450M Pro4 but this has supplanted it. The LLC control on the Steel Legend makes it better than the Pro4 (which does not allow manual LLC control).
Ordered this (from a local brick-and-mortar) for 110€, 16 gigs of 3200 Mhz RGB ram (also 110€), and a Ryzen 5 2600x (145€!). Gonna top it off with a Deepcool GAMMAXX GT RGB cpu cooler. What sold it to me were the two M.2 slots, four ram slots, RGB and the number of fan headers.
Love this board. Just picked it up last week. Only one thing its missing and that's usb 3.1 gen 2 header for connecting cases with usb c ports. But I'm sure that will be on the next iteration.
Hey Mike, heard through the grapevine you guys were talking about me on the live stream. No need to worry, I’m fine. But I have a new client who wants a book finished by years end, plus I’m working on my own novel so I’m really busy pounding on the keys, trying to write at least 10k words per day between both novels. I’ve deleted my Twitter account as I have no time for social media, and my RU-vid watching has dropped nearly to zero, thus my absents. Hopefully things will be less hectic next year. Take care and tell Kath hello for me. Now, back to work. I have another 3k words to write to finish today’s quota before I can get some sleep.
Thanks for the update we were getting a little concerned and it wasn’t just kath and myself quite a few of the mikesunboxing family were asking after you. Be well and be creative and we look forward to hearing more from you when you get the time x
Great review! would you consider a small form factor build on the channel with this? I'm looking to make one to take away on business when I go instead of a laptop, possibly with an APU? anyway good work keep it up!
Well damn now i HAVE to buy this...cuz you know overclocking and aesthetics on a micro atx? ooh wee and to think i was going to buy the Gigabyte GA-A320M-S2H Matx mobo its all in the chipset of the mobo
@@mikesunboxing You bet i will! However I got a question for ya. i have 2 sticks of 8gb (16gb total) which slots do i put them in? would it matter what slots i put my 2 sticks of ram in?
I can't remember and i have since changed the board but i would use the farthest away which is slot 4 numerically speaking and then leave a gap and then slot 2
Ooh this board for my white 1600AF build maybe 😍 Some reviews I read say the LEDs glitch out after a while and the RGB software is awful though. 😔😭 You said the the video you had a black and white case coming to do the build, did that happen?
Does this board have built in wifi because it would be quite hard to have a long ethernet going through one side of my house to the other? Good review!
@@mikesunboxing I only had a not-so-pleasant experience flashing a laptop from before. So this is gonna be my first desktop build and I'm concerned about the need to flash the bios.
basically if you buy a board and chip try and make sure the vendor can flash the bios or buy a chip that has been out a while so the board maker has had chance to update the bios at the factory
Not to bother you or anything but ive been trying to figure out how i can make a pc with 700 but its been so hard i just wanna play some good games without breaking the budget but at this point i just wanna give up. I guess that sterotype about pc gaming really is expensive.

Wow... what a great board for the money! $144 CAD at Amazon is a good deal for that feature set. Why they still have a PS2 mouse/keyboard connector on some of these boards is a complete mystery for me.
@@mikesunboxing Of course... that is only applicable if you have a PS2 Keyboard in the house. Been YEARS since, and I have never had an issue with a USB Keyboard or mouse being detected.
thank you for this video, i have a question i want to use this motherboard with ryzen 5 3400G apu and i want to use 8gb of ram (ddr4 3000 mhz) on single channel i need to know if it will support this ram or not because i find that if you use apu ( picasso ) with this motherboard it will support only 2933mhz (max)
yes this will be okay but it will maybe run at the lower speed - which is not much different although single channel is not great for these chips - hopefully you are planning to go dual channel later on?
This is my current PC: pcpartpicker.com/b/2Cw6Mp I had installed an Asus TUF B350M-Plus Gaming and Ryzen 5 1600, when I bought the G.Skill Flare X 3200 MHz cl14, they never reached that rated speed, almost every day or every week I got BSOD or freezes or crashes on Windows or while gaming, before those RAM kits I had a Corsair Vengeance LPX White and it was the same, so I decided to buy those G.Skill RAMs. During months I've tried everything to get stable my system: - Always updating ALL (Windows, drivers, BIOS, etc.) whey they were released, uninstalling the previous GPU driver with DDU. - Temps are fine, never above 75° in full stress test during days! - All those stress test, Aida64, prime95, furmark, memtest86, etc. passed without issues! - On stock settings worked fine, only when I want to put my RAMs to 3000 or 3200 MHz is when the BSOD appears, different BSOD error messages like irql_not_less_or_equal, clock watchdog timeout and many others I don't remember, or even without error messages. - Entering manual timings, either the full official timings by G.Skill or DRAM Calculator for Ryzen, and using Thaiphoon burner, nothing helped me. XMP profile is BS, it doesn't allow me to boot the system. - Ryzen 5 3600 isn't OC, I just want my RAMs work at rated speed. - Searching on Internet several forums, nothing helped me. If replacing the Mobo and CPU didn't work for me, is the RAMs the faulty? or the PSU? or Windows is crap with updates that causes BSOD? Who has the same Asrock B450M Steel Legend with the latest BIOS and Ryzen 5 3600? Which RAM are you using and are actually working well only enabling XMP or manual timings at least 3200 MHz or above? If I need to RMA my kits, I would better buy another RAMs, the shipping cost to send the faulty RAMs to G.Skill isn't worth it (I'm from México)
Mike's unboxing, reviews and how to Yes I did, I,m with Ryzen 5 3600 and Asrock b450m steel legend since one week ago and the issue persist, is all with the most recent bios, drivers, etc. But when I did stress test like prime95, memtest86, etc. there’s no errors.
Now I'm torn between this and the ASUS ROG Strix B450-I mother board. Which would u recommend? I'm going to be running the ryzen 5 3 series and have a rx5700 xt raw 2 gpu, the case I'm buying is going to be the nzxt 510 elite.
I will upgrade my PC soon from Intel to Amd and i choose this motherboard with an AMD Ryzen 5 3600 and HyperX Predator RGB 8GB DDR4-3200MHz it is gonna be good ?
Hey! I just built a system with this mobo with the 3600. I installed corsair vengence pro RGB 3600 cl18. For these to work at 3600mhz, u need to set it to xmp profile in bios. Thats about it. 3200 should work right off the bat. I reused my old gtx970 and spent the money on a new 1440p monitor 75hz instead 😁 Waiting for amd 5500 series!
@@ahanaftanvir9496 hey, i bought the board ready for amd 3600.. almost all of the b450 boards should be ready... you just need to check on the box for any info with stickers.. if not just ask your distributor. Good luck. Im from singapore btw. Depends on country i guess
My specs are Ryzen 5 3600, asrock b450m steel legend, crucial mx500 500gb, adata xpg d30 8*2 ram, antec 650watt, with a Inno3D 2070super!!! Is the 2070super be compatable with this motherboard
I am planning on building a Ryzen 5 3600 and RTX 2060 Super build soon. I wanted to use the DLM 21 micro-atx case. Would this motherboard be good for my components? If not I am willing to spend 20-30 bucks more for a better motherboard. Do you have any recommendations?
You have not mention the installation of the board to the case. This board has 9 holes but 1 is not to be fitted on the case is on the bottom right hand corner. The ATX board does. Can you explain please? I wait for your response.
I'm too late to comment on this , Ryzen 5 3500 RX 580 8gb Oc Gskill ripjaws ddr4 8x2 I'll use stock cooler fan and no extra rgb stuff This would be my build . I really am on it to make it fit inside a mini tower chassis . Should I really go for this motherboard ?
Hi Mike, would I need to worry about the VRM temps when using this board in conjunction with a 3700x (stock settings)? It would be using a Noctua NH-U9S (not the supplied AMD stock cooler). I'd hate to think I was "gimping" the CPU. Thanks
@@mikesunboxing Hi Mike! May I know why you would edge towards gigabyte instead of this Steel Legend? I'm tryin' to build my gaming rig as well and still torn picking b450m motherboard. Great content by the way. Appreciate all the information. Very detailed. Thank you!
Hi Mike, which one you prefer, Asrock B450M Pro 4 or this B450M Steel Legend for Ryzen 3 3200G? Later on (8months maybe), i want to add GPU GTX 1660 6GB on my gaming rig... Thanks..
@@mikesunboxing Cool, So are there really any problems with the board software, as I have heard from some before, and this is what made me confused? Or I can just go buy it with peace of mind so I can sleep without worrying about losing money and board 😅😇
Sir ..... finally i have the board and im using since a week...facing an unusual issue. i have R5 1600 processor , Corsair Vengeance 3000Mhz (2*8GB) RAM kit but my RAM sticks are running only on 2133MHz instead of 3000MHz. Turning on XMP from bios is not helping me out and RAM sticks are working only on 2133Mhz which is stock. Tried with Crucial Ballistix sport (2*8GB ) 3200MHz and Hyperx (2*8GB) memory KIT 3200MHz separately but same issue... they are running at 2400MHz which is stock....Updated the bios but same thing. I noticed that every time when i change the RAM XMP settings, windows boots with the XMP memory settings but every time if i shut down the PC completely then after the 1st boot the bios gets reset automatically and the settings gets into default. Also the other settings like Date and time and Fast boot option also get changed. I tried with a new CMOS battery but same issue. Could you please help me out on this?

@@mikesunboxing ok ty buddy for ansering quick i am about to build my gaming pc and i need to know if everythings is alright like my pcu and etc.And i will join your disc for more info.
Hi Mike I'm thinking about building a budget PC for my son for Xmas £300-£400 are there any other matx motherboards you would recommend had a look yesterday and this one seems to get in the £80-£90 price . I'm going to use one of the Ryzen 5 cpus with built in graphics then get a video card at a later date... Thanks mark
the 5000 series with built in graphics are not supposed to be released until 2021 so you might need to have a look at other options, you can get the 4000 series APU's in some places but they are a bit sparse to say the least.
So now on july 2020 would the b450m steel legend still be the best entry level board? I can't decide between the b450m steel legend and the tuf b450m PRO gaming (pro, not plus).
Ok so before giving advice understand that im wanting to do this for interest not budget. I have a dell inspirion 530 and am wanting to take everything out and use the case. Will mice atx motherboards fit in it?
I have a ryzen 5 3400g and Asus Prime a320m-k motherboard and I've been eyeing on the asrock b450m steel legend i've only used it for 4 months now because i'm such an idiot I wasn't thinking I was so excited and had no patience, so would you think it would be okay if I just want to upgrade the motherboard sometime in 2021 because my concept of my upgrade path is buy the b450m steel legend and buy a new cpu in the next 2 or 3 years which maybe like a zen 2 ryzen 5 or ryzen 7 or zen 3 cpu's if they are in stock which I assume it will and yeah that's about it. What are your opinions on this?

Ive been going through reviews of this and cant really find a solid answer so ill ask here aswell! I have a ryzen 5 3400g cpu as far as im aware it is compatible with this board, but on sights like pcpartpicker im told ill need to bios update with a compatible cpu. Do i need to purchase another cpu before i can get this up and running???
You should find that most stock will now have the updated bios so this can work out of the box but that isn’t a guarantee. New amazon stock should be fine
Some websites will ask for a small fee and they will update the BIOS for you before shipping. CCLOnline have a deal where it you buy a cpu with any motherboard the bios update comes free. Normally cost £9.99
Hi my 2.1 edifier s350db has a Optical in. So if i use the motherboard spdif out directly into the 2.1 speakers will i get better Sound Quality as compared to using on board Sound Out....?!? Thanks 😊✌️
Hi I prepare to build a new setup if you want tell me is good or not 1-asrock b450m steel 2-cpu ryzen 5 3600 3- 2x8 gg ram 3000 mhz 3-gpu msi 1660ti 6gg Excuse me for my bad anglish .
What is AMD promontory? AMD “Promontory” chipset will be rather feature-rich: it will connect to processors using PCI Express 3.0 x4 bus (up to 4GB/s of bandwidth) and will support USB 3.1, USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports; one PCI Express 2.0 general-purpose port for various controllers; Serial ATA-6Gb/s and SATA Express port(s).
It depends on what bios the board ships with. Most new retail boards will have a 3000 ready sticker on them meaning that there will be support for the 3000 chips released on that bios version but newer chips may still not be compatible without a flash to the latest version

I bought this motherboard and attached a ryzen 5 2600 to it which was working fine moments before on a different board. When i mounted the whole system on the steel legend motherboard and i tried to turn the system on the fans start up and the rbg lights also but i get no picture on my monitor and in 15 seconds the pc shuts down and boots up again . Has anyone had this problem before? It would help out a lot if someone has some info on the topic.
Can I use a Ryzen 3600 on this straight out the box? I dont have another cpu to do a Bios upgrade, and not sure if this requires it. Definitely looks like a good mobo
G It is difficult to know what BIOS revision is on the board and depending on how long it has been sat on a shelf it could have aged a lot. I would say that if you manage to get a fresh stock version the BIOS should be okay but there are no guarantees that this will be the case. If you are in any doubt speak directly to the seller and ask them for more information.
does the massive aluminum heatsink (over the HDMI, audio outputs, etc) make it difficult to fit into any mATX pc case ?........also, do i connect headphones to the back panel or front pc case panel for better sound ?
the heatsink should n't make any difference, and the audio will sound better most likely from the rear ports as the front mounted ports on most cases aren't the best quality or very well shielded, although your mileage may wary depending on the case
@@mikesunboxing many thanks indeed for the quick reply and info......i was worried the massive heatsink might prevent proper installation in the pc case.....what is your view of the ASRock B450m Pro4 R2.0 (3+2 VRM using 10 x 42A chokes) compared to the Steel Legend (4+2 VRM using 6 x 60A chokes) ......will it make a difference if i don't even play games ?
Can i use on it pci 3.0 gpu?? Beacuse pci3.0 in the bellow And i can't add gpu White slot i think pci 2.0? Most of youtubers use gpu on this white slot In aida 64 say my 1660 super use pci2.0
