Hi wonder idc you could help, I'm looking at a using a couple GH5 II's as a cameras for filming or live streaming live theatre 7 cabaret performances. due to its sensor being able last the long lengths of a live show. But I'm worried about its low light capabilities even with stage lights it'll most shoot a distance from the subject and zoomed or wider further back shots in a venue. What lens would you recommend in that instance? Thanks.
@CamberFilmSchool
@CamberFilmSchool Год назад
You’re going to be looking at some really expensive lenses for that. I’d personally go with something like the a7C with a full frame sensor. No recording limits either. What’s your budget?

I have the Olympus 12-40 mm f2.8. It is a great lens at a reasonable price. The new Panasonic 10-25 mm is great, I'm sure but it is nearly twice the price. I shoot live theatre, concerts and dance shows f 1.7 would be nice but I don't need it. I do agree with you, that when you're shooting video variable aperture is a pain.

Thank you for the video and explanations. Interestingly I have been narrowing down to these as well for a G9 and short product videos. ( 1 -3 minutes) So far everything i do is with the PL 42.5 nokticon and it the low light performance and image quality is our default for better or worse. I have wondered about about just getting the PL 12mm prime and doing the 12 - something video zooming electronically, either in camera or post for colors matching the 42.5. ( 1080 p ) Is this viable or would require a ridiculous amount of processing power? Thanks
@CamberFilmSchool
@CamberFilmSchool 10 месяцев назад
It’s possibly but definitely a lot more work. And zooming in on 12mm footage isn’t going to give you the same look as a longer focal length.

I mostly use a GH5 and sometimes a GH4 and an Olympus EM mark III. I use a Panasonic-Leica 12-60 lens for most of my shooting. The 10-25 mm lens would do better in low light, but I hesitate to spend $1,400 for a lens that would probably not be much of an improvement.
@CamberFilmSchool
@CamberFilmSchool 2 года назад
Yea, it’s definitely costly, but a quality $300 light would be just as beneficial.
@waynecake5867

You should rewatch this video again. It really does address your hesitations about cost. However, what he did not mention, is the Leica 1.7 zooms usually cost $300 more, which means they are currently discounted… I recently acquired both the 10-25 and 25-50/1.7 for roughly $800 (including tax) less than what they would have cost. They are my first pro lenses from Lumix/Leica, and thus far, I don’t regret the purchase… On the GH5II, they perform better than expectation, in including AF… …

Are there any autofocus prime lenses that can go at least f 1.2?
@CamberFilmSchool
@CamberFilmSchool 3 месяца назад
Sure! Olympus makes a 17mm ( amzn.to/43DVT1V ) and a 25mm ( amzn.to/3TAgpvY ) that give you equivalent focal lengths of 34mm & 50mm, respectively. But that f/1.2 ain’t cheap!

@CamberFilmSchool
@CamberFilmSchool Месяц назад
No, I don’t have any specific settings videos for Panasonic cameras. But camera settings are the least of what makes a video look “cinematic.” As long as you’re at 24 fps and 1/50 or 1/48 shutter speed depending on what your camera offers, then you’ll have the right camera settings. Making it look cinematic has a lot more to do with lens choice, depth of field, framing, and lighting.

Is there a specific reason you want a zoom? Since you already have the 15, you can get the 9 and later on get a 35mm. The lower f/1.7 aperture and it being a prime lens will give you better overall quality. Aside from doing things like a dolly zoom or fast zoom in/out, you don’t need a zoom.

@@CamberFilmSchool oh yeah u are right, is the 9mm enough for real estate you think? Bc I see everyone saying to get the 7.5 laowa but I want autofocus too. And it's good bc I have a 35mm alr too but it's a big cine lens but it's fine
@CamberFilmSchool

I think it’s wide enough. Depends on how small the rooms end up being. The wider you go the more it’ll distort the edges.
