I’m in the cabinetry business and the M12 platform is my go to, even the circular saws are a beast. Got a few Ryobi tools too and they’re amazing

Excellent video for the homeowner/ DIYer. I personally use the M18 platform on the jobsite and at home. Unfortunately, their tools are a little spendy for the average Joe. I notice a lot of people rocking Ryobi. They are owned by the same company as Milwaukee. That means both companies have the same R&D. Ryobi is also just as versitile. From a simple drill, to a lawnmower, to an inflator for the vehicle and camping, to a Bluetooth speaker for everything, the sky's the limit! Ryobi is not limited to just tools, and they have an adapter to charge USB devices. Amazon also sells an adapter to use a Ryobi battery on a Milwaukee tool. It looks ridiculous because its so tall, but in certain circumstances, it could be useful. I haven't tried it myself, so im not sure how good it is

I’m a homeowner, and I have the brushless drill and driver, and most of my other tools are brushed. I think the amount of power and value they have is more than fine for what I need them for. Definitely happy I went with the brushless drill and driver though.

I am a DIYer. I have M12 tools, 12V and 20V DeWalt tools. I am happy with all of them. I probably will settle on M12 and DeWalt 20V tools. They all have helped me in times of immediate need - I didn’t need to run out for a tool, I had just the right tools. By the way, I’m 70 years old and have had a longer time to acquire and decide on tools.

As somebody who does DIY, I definitely will say that battery compatibility is very important. I’ve been hesitant to upgrade because I got bit with my current tools. I have a decent collection of Craftsman C3 power tools. I got them a few years before craftsman got sold. I will say that I’m currently installing base cabinets with my 12+ year old impact driver and drill. Once my tools start dying, it’ll be time to upgrade, and the Milwaukee M18 is looking pretty tempting.

as a diy er, I recently went with Milwaukee. I really like their choice of tools; usually 2 or 3 price points for a given tool. I mainily am buying Fuel, 18 and 12.

I'm a DIY, the system that works for me is to have my core power tools (drill, impact driver, angle grinder, multi tool, flood light, in my case) as Milwaukee so I have nice quality for the stuff I regularly use. My less-used stuff (sander, miter saw, reciprocating saw, compressor & nail guns, to name a few) are corded. This way I only need a couple batteries, don't run the extension cord all that often, and never deal with any junk tools.

Thanks for the video.Sounds like good advice for the average guy. I ditched my 18v for DIY after getting arthritis in hands. I now love the m12 tools since they are small and light and I have control where I didn't with bigger tools. I can still do things now when before I struggled. BTW I like watching your videos. I've been with Ryobi since they first came out in the 1990's. Still have some of my original blue tools (upgraded the circular saw twice) and they still work great. But I fall into the DIY/hobbyist category. Actually built 13 wooden gates and maintained my entire property (stable, barn, riding arena & old run-down house) for years with just an old Craftsman 12v drill and 1 battery! Point is, you can do anything with any line of tools, just treat them well. I am considering buying an M12 drill & driver set because it is so handy just to use in my woodshop. There's nothing else like it and it's a very good value at $120.

I absolutely agree with your assessment Vince, I'm an electrician on both the M18 and M12 platforms, my tools are used to make me money. But even though I love my Milwaukee tools, I wouldn't recommend them for a DIYer, only because some of the more budget friendly brands are offering fairly powerful tools at a much lower price than Milwaukee or DeWalt are. Most DIYers use there tools occasionally, not everyday, most of them store their tools in places where they ain't getting banged around all of the time. Ryobi has a massive platform that can satisfy almost everything a homeowner/DIYer needs. Heck, even I use some Ryobi tools on the jobsite (most notably my fan and angle grinder), and they haven't let me down yet. I guess it really depends what the DIYer is looking to do with their tools, for most around the house or barn stuff, then I'd say go Ryobi, but if they have a hobby that requires precision such as woodworking, or metal working, then absolutely go for Milwaukee. Heck most weekends warrior types don't even need to limit themselves to Home Depot or Lowe's, Harbor Freight sells very good power tools (that ain't branded Warrior) at even better prices than either of the two major box stores. That being said, Skil is an often overlooked brand and they have a fairly good 12 volt platform as well. I just recommend folks to avoid Black & Decker and Warrior if they want to do any serious work with their tools.

I've had the 1st Gen drill since day one. Use it almost every day. I've dropped it off ladders and probably mistreated it more then I should have but, its still going STRONG.

I’d say to look at a brands full lineup of tools for a particular battery platform and see if they offer all the tools you’ll need or want before jumping into a particular brand.

As a homeowner I tend to go corded for tools I rarely use. Much cheaper and, unless the world ends, I know the tool will still work in 30 years time.

I love my m12 fuel tools. Multi tool, drill and impact, and stubby 3/8 impact are amazing tools. Bought them when they were on sale since I don’t use them too often and I’m impressed by them all.

Cool video, thanks, Vince. I went from the Makita 7.2 stick battery to the American made NiCad 14.4 volt Porter Cable. Then, about 14 years ago, to the German Metabo 18 volt lithium. Now, almost all of my Bosch, Makita, Metabo, Hitachi, and Milwaukee are cordless. Today's technology is amazing.

Becoming a Homeowner, I decided to go for the M18 Fuel Platform. This is because I'm familiar with it from work(I work at sea), and wanted something familiar and functional. Only M12 part I got was the Jigsaw, but that's because I'll rarely use it, and needed something to use the free M12 Battery I got with my M18 Battery kit

Hi Vince great presentation as always, I mostly use M18 fuel or brushless and try to avoid brushed when possible, I found out that I do have more M12 brushed tools however. For specific tasks I have other brand tools the likes of Dewalt and Makita, but run them through battery adapters, to keep only Milwaukee batteries and chargers as the standard power source.

Hello again, Vince and Vcg Thank you for another Great Video 👍 You know Vince, I had the M12 😊impact, drill and ratchet as a combo kit. I had to return the kit because Home Depot wouldn't let me up grade the ratchet from a brush tool to a brushless tool. For me it was a question of safety. A brush tool can put out sparks. If you work around fuel. Thats a bad combination to be in....Things can go bang real quick. Anyhow, I like the M12 also for being lighter in weight. I can keep working longer. Now if I can get Milwaukee to put together a Insider Ratchet with a SAE 12-point sockets set. I would buy it 😊 Again thank you

as a homegamer on the ryobi brushless line, i'm starting adding some of the m12 fuel tools for car repairs, nothing ryobi offers has the power / compact size ratio that's perfect for tight auto spaces

M18 battery platform has been good to me for profit and for personal use. For all the reasons he said. Every once in a while I wish I had some of the M12 stuff for specialty applications but can't justify the spend. M18 has an answer for everything

The M18 Hammer drill's electronic clutch strips small fasteners. Got the M12 Fuel instead because of that.

Irun both m12 and m18 at home. I have what I can in m12 and go m18 if I have to (mainly saws and yard tools). The m12 drill/driver set comes with a charger that can do an m18 battery and if you wait for a good sale it isnt too hard to get that m18 tool with a decent battery for $25 or so more than the bare tool.

If you have the money get the fuel line if you're balling on a budget def get the brushless spend the extra money for the better product ! NOW if you aren't going to be using that tool that much then get the brushed line of tools. THIS IS MY OPINION do not becoming to disagree with me lmao

Vince: I have to disagree with you the I’m a semiretired contractor and have been a Milwaukee fan boy for 40+ years while the M18 tools are wonderful, powerful, durable, … they are large and heavy especially with the larger batteries. I use the M12 90%+ of the time and our youngest son uses his drill and driver all the time my next M12 tool will be the Hackzall, still using my old corded circular saw. Home owners go M12 in my opinion, unless you really need tons of power

My jobsite go to is my reg m18 impact. I use it every day and does just what i need. Drill is different. My reg m18 drill doesn't have the power i need but should be fine for a homeowner.

I needed a drill for work and I went with M12 fuel because I have to take it work so wanted a smaller tool kit to be mobile it will do what I need at home and at work and have Ryobi one plus system already at home because of the range and cost

DIYr here. I currently have the current fuel M12 drill and impact driver, as well as the M18 drill. I truly don't need this power but as a person who isn't satisfied with low to mid tiers I "had" to purchase them. Do I need them? Absolutely not. I already have my RidGid drill/impact driver. I was going to also purchase the Fuel M18 impact driver, but I put a stop to this, because all I was doing is collecting more tools as a hobby, which I shouldn't be doing.

I am DIY and have a mix of brands (Milwaukee, Ryobi, Metabo & Bosch) but I always look for the brushless option when available cause I notice for big projects, they last me thought the entire project without bogging down. Most of mine are Ryobi but I get the tools that suits the job. I actually got my father in law into cordless even though he hesitated. Funny that we bond over tools....

Buy the better quality stuff, used. I've bought a lot of my work tools that way, and one of the plusses is buying from other tradies and getting to hear their actual input on putting it to work.

Maybe an unpopular opinion but I run Ridgid as a homeowner/DIY. I'm sticking with that especially now that they are expanding into lawn care. And I know they're not all the same but Milwaukee, Ryobi and Ridgid are all the same manufacture.

Weekend warriors don't need to shell out on top end power tools if its only say 3 hours every other sunday. Yeah if your thrashing it out 8 hours a day 6 days a week, well the saying goes, the cheap man pays twice. But yes, regardless, sticking to 1 battery platform makes life a lot easier as you can maintain a few batteries over multiple tools and don't have to have 17 different chargers kicking about.

I personally have Milwaukee for my most used tools like impact drivers drills and automotive impact wrench’s, Ryobi for my I’ll use it every once in a while and Hercules because they just have 5 year warranty on brushless tools and I like there in store warranty 👍🏻

M18 and only when on monster sale, combine it with credit card promos. Recently got M12 because on sale and had gift card, got tire inflator and awesome little compact vacuum great for crazy dog hair in the house, saved me from buying a ridiculous stick vacuum for $400. Great tools, and got 2 HO 5.0 M12's for freakin $134, $121 with HD 10% off, so batteries $60 each. Ridiculously great. $60 will also buy you a large pizza and a 12 pack and thats gone REAL quick! Gotta shop the deals, wait for your moment!

As a maintenance electrician I really like the M12 fuel line of tools, but I will agree if I were still a maintenance mechanic I would go either m18 fuel or m18 brushless, even though I had Dewalt XRP 18 tools(I got them for free and it is really hard to compete against that price).

You can get those adaptors for M18 batteries too to charge your phone etc. The new ones connect to a single batter and have a 120v 3 prong recep. They're a hundred bucks but I mean that's pretty handy

I started out with ryobi when they were blue. My original first gen, first battery of the lithium ion version, still works to this day. Then I started buying ridgid tools mainly due to its warranty. I still use both platforms. I have 2 m12 items ... the hoodie and, more recently, the jacket. I love the jacket and rarely even have to use the heater in it. But it's great when I do.

My first cordless tool when I was in a college dorm room and had to fix something was a Ryobi... when it was blue! It charged the batt with a plug in power supply. My next cordless tool out in the real world was a Milwaukee and I stayed with them ever since.

@@TheKingOfInappropriateComments we use all the major brands, Hilti, makita, Panasonic, bosch etc. Mainly mikwaukee for cordless tools, forever sending them for warranty repair

Hey Vince I'm just starting out on my handy man journey I build sheds and work shops and decks for people And im needing a framing nail gun and im on a budget bc im just starting off I've been looking at the rahobi 30° framing nail gun sould I get it and do you think it will hold up entil I can get a better one thanks for your time

If you’re on a budget why not go pneumatic if you have a compressor that can run it? If you go Ryobi just make sure you’re getting at a good price, maybe it’ll hold you over!

Start with M18 so you have the charger for both since Milwaukee is idiots and won't give you a multi charger with m12. Then for DIY go with M12 Fuel as it will do a lot of the jobs. I hardly touch my m18 tools because of it.

I would say most homeowners and diyer’s will be happy with Milwaukee brushless, if your a trades guy spend the money on fuel tools especially high draw tools such as angle grinders as the regular m18 brushless grinders are terrible!

Decided to get the new gen 4 fuel driver/hammer drill combo for my first set. Well now I’m addicted and gotta get fuel everything lol. Looking into getting the new 6 1/2 circular saw. Would like to add a new fuel to my line up once a month to slowly stock up we shall see.

M12 Fuel works for most tasks. M18 Fuel if the M12 can't do it.

The time to get them is during the holidays or sale season. I dropped a few grand on the m18 platform last year. Got the combo kits at home depot and am thoroughly happy with them. Great power and quality. Defintely bite the bullet and spend 300-400 on a battery pack kit. I got 4 6.0 for a few hundred. Got a few 8.0 from a combo kit. Then theres a bunch of 5.0s around. Overall happy with the purchase. Milwaukee is just way better than every other brand I've used.

Was about to say, the best time is to wait for sales. I dunno about dropping a few grand at a time, I personally have a mortgage I’m paying for 😂 Maybe just see which tools you need to upgrade next and one by one upgrade them to red tools if the sales match

@philipdumas4435 personally I went with Ridgid. It works for what I need it for. I just bought a 6 piece Ridgid brushless tool kit for $479. It came with the high output batteries.

I have Milwaukee and Ryobi!......I have brushed, brushless and Fuel....M12, M18, Ryobi 40v and 18v..... and I only got Ryobi just because they offer a lot of weird niche' stuff. The "tier" of tool I buy depends on what the Task is.
