Just ordered the 7.5 pro w/ lithium rechargeable aerator , TH Marine minnow maker, 3"stone and a small floating net. Your points about the Engel net were spot on. Thanks for the Great review!!!
Thanks Ed! You are so nice! Yes, the net if you let it get away from you in terms of keeping it cleaned off can actually cause bacteria to build up even in fresh water and prematurely kill your bait. There are a lot of guys that have figured out ways to keep the nets clean and this be a non-issue, but I don't care for doing more maintenance on these than I need to which is why I don't use the net.
Good review you brought up some interesting points. Although I'm not sure why should a person spend 80 plus dollars for this and then have to buy new pumps, air stones add in a chemicals to keep your fish alive and get rid of netting. I think I will buy a good brand of cooler and make one with the parts you are recommending we replace.
New guy here watched the video this afternoon and just got the small one with everything to go with it lol I’m in central Florida and do a lot of yack fishing so I was thinking that would work great for me love the video and thanks of all the info I hit the sub and the bell have a great night
What would be cool for us who live in hotter climates is something to keep the water cooler I use frozen 20 oz bottles now but that takes up room and don't last long. A product that would cool that runs on a camp propane bottle. I know they have refrigerators that run off of propane. It would be cool to have a much smaller scale device that would cool your bait bucket.
Nice review. My biggest gripes with the Engel cooler when you use it for ice fishing. 1. The top freezes shut and is almost impossible to open without damaging it. 2. When you open the top, it tips over when it's empty. Annoying when you're trying to fill it. 3. The aerator that comes with is terrible. Mine lasted one week and broke. 4. The net will freeze and you'll end up throwing it away. 5. Expensive for what it is. That being said I still use the smaller version for ice fishing. In my opinion, if you want a larger version I'd buy the new frabil bait box.
Zack, appreciate the comment and your experiences. Yes, there is something that should be done about the lid freezing shut, there has to be something that can prevent that as I know several people have that issue, and several others that have found home remedies that work for them (Chapstick / Vaseline), but not everyone. I'm debating getting a big one for my garage and might check out the Frabil bait box. Thanks!
I feel like the 13 qt is a better option i was thinking of getting the 7.5qt one, but if one day i want to get bigger bait i already have the big 13qt one 👍🏼
I use a aquarium skywin rechargeable aerator i bought for around 16 bucks on Amazon and i use a plano plastic box i mounted on top of my 19 qt engel to keep it dry haven't tried it out yet unfortunately but hope it works.
@@AlexTimm you are welcome! I definitely like the stainless ones better. If you have an academy sports near by check out the Magellan bait cooler. I actually like it better but both are excellent
thanks for the vid super helpful. so for the 13 qt... technically that is slightly below the specs of the plug in aerator (5-10 gallons)... have you noticed any problems with leaving that overnight ? too much oxygen?
When my net gets cruddy I soak it in bleach then clean it with dawn and it’s brand new, the minnows aren’t affected after rinsing out the bleach in my experience
I had some shrimp in a bucket with an aerator and they lasted 9 hours they where still alive after i finished fishing and I ended up just throwing them out so idk if your claim is correct
The most I've ever had in it was 3 dozen shiners 2 scoops of fat heads and 2 scoops of crappie minnows. It was packed but keeping the water cool, aerated and changing it daily they did just fine
Bleach the nets then soak them in a product like Seachem Prime (it’s made for aquariums). The Prime will neutralize the chlorine and everything will be fish-safe again.
Not sure which one you are talking about, but here is the Clam aerator and the Aerator stone if those were what you are looking for: • Clam Lithium Aerator: amzn.to/3AJpxUt • Large Aerator Stone: amzn.to/39DbaVN
PJ Jackson, good question, if it were me and using sunfish I would probably go with the 13 for the little bit of extra space. Thanks for watching and commenting!
