I really don't get people talking bad about vstrom brakes, yes they not super sport sharp but i definitely dont need to use much force to stop. Actually i appreciate that they are "forgiving" to not let lock up front tire easily! That goes well with bikes easy going character imo!
@John_Neves
@John_Neves Год назад
I actually agree with you and would go further, in saying that most people probably don't use good pads, neither do proper brake maintenance to keep them up to spec. The cables and HH pads are upgrade enough IMO, and they work very well. I don't see myself mounting other calipers for example. 👍

@@John_Neves I have a stock 2005 DL1000 with 9,700 miles; I'm debating just buying a newer Africa Twin instead of upgrading the brakes and suspension on the V-Strom. The Suzuki is a more reliable machine, but that Africa Twin is sweet.
@John_Neves

@scrateshooter hummm. Why spend so much cash when you have a great bike you hardly use anyway? 🤔 That model Strom is still a great tourer even for todays standards. If you want an off road toy, choose something lighter than the AT 👍

I had one of these for 13 years and I should have kept it; I would have saved a ton of money. Braided lines and EBC HH pads? Awesome. I solved the buffeting problem with a helmet that fit properly. I traded my 02 for a 15 model and I REALLY missed the sixth gear O/D which made it easy to hold steady speeds on the highway. Newer isn't always better.

I bought an 06 DL1000 at a great price. Found a pair of Two Brothers pipes and what a difference in weight and power. But they are too loud for everyday use. Maybe I will find a way to use them as in quiet them somehow. It is a great bike for sure.

Hi , Thanks a lot for sharing your mods !! I have a question . Why did you choose MIVV silencers , what model of MIVV Is that ? Where can we find them ? Thanks for answering !! I ve been riding exactly the same bike K3 for 9 years and i am thinking of putting some lighter mufflers. Will we need a re-mapping afterwards ? Also , do you know if the EBC HH brake pads are sintered ones ? Thanks again. I only ride on the road and never off road Would you recommend the same brake pads of yours for such usage ? I live in Europe
@John_Neves
@John_Neves 11 месяцев назад
Hi there. I'm glad you found the video useful. The silencers i bought because of the looks and weight. Mivv suono carbon. Bought them online from italy. Carpimoto. No mapping needed. Yes the EBC's are sintered and they make a huge difference on and off road. I've used them since. These bikes are amazing with a few mods. A few upgrades and they are just as good as newer bikes on the market. Happy riding 👍

I have the same 2003 model with 120.000 km. I don't know why almost all users praise this engine because it's not that great. Clutch basket problems, TP sensor, stator and magnet problems. Thank goodness mine had all this fixed before I bought it. It's true that I did 40.000 km with it in 3 years and I didn't have any problems, but still. In particular, problems with the basket and the clutch have been lingering at Suzuki since 1997 in the SV, TL, DL 1000 models, until 2020.

Great video!! I have a 2012 dl1000. I've taken several road trips, and I'm currently running a PCV to remedy the know fuel mapping issues. When you are loaded and traveling down the freeway at 75 mph, what are you getting for fuel economy?
@John_Neves
@John_Neves Год назад
Hey there 👋 My bike is quite old, so no onboard computer. That means the only way to find out the average fuel consumption is to do a little maths, so i don't pay much attention to it. But with normal fully loaded 75mph riding, I'll get around 6 to 6.5 liters per 100 km. Not great of course... To solve the fueling on these bikes, my 15 years of experience with her has taught me to sync injection and tps every 2 services. Longer intervals, and she'll ride like crap.... 👍 Hope this helps 👍💪

I have a 03DL1000 also I bought new in 03. I recently found out just how heavy the stock pipes are when i took them off for a bit of maintenance. No way they were going back on.Put on Delkevic shorties and K&N air filter. Had a lean running engine for 4 thousand miles. The intakes tightened up maybe due to the lean fuel. I noticed you got away without a fuel controller,no power commander v of any kind?
@John_Neves
@John_Neves Год назад
Hey there 🖐 I only have a G-Pack, but to be fair it was on before the pipes and my KN. Works quite fine, but my bike likes to have its TPS and throttle bodies all nicely synced every 2 services... It's a bit of a nag, but she's quite fussy about that... If i leave them un-synced for too long, she'll run so lean she'll stall and pop... She also enjoys hi-octane fuel better than standard... That's been my experience at least. Do you often do the TPS and Throttle body sync?

At 178 u don't need to lower seat. Also you need to consider that you also just increased your knee angle, therefore reducing leg comfort

Yes, in my case, i had to lower the seat just a tad to be able to reach the floor with the rear pre-load at the adjustment that benefits cornering. That was my case, it may be different for you and your riding style.

#1000 sub :) Also...650 vs 1000? I REALLY can't decide. Leaning more towards the 650 for price/fuel economy. But i am so afraid that i am going to feel like im lacking the power from the 1000. 90/10 ( road/off-road) Nice content and appreciate the extra work in the timestamps
@John_Neves
@John_Neves 3 года назад
yeah!!!! Thanks man! #1000 😁 650 vs1000... As a seasoned rider, i would only take the 650 if there was a huge diference in weight to make up for the shortage in power. I like my bikes as light as possible, but i also appreciate somewhere around the 100hp range. More than that, rarely gets used. To be honest, even the 100 ponies of the 1000, doesn´t often get used... If you do a lot of 2 up with gear, take the 1000. The extra power will come in handy. But it is not in any way essencial. If not, the 650 maybe the smart choice. Its cheaper to buy and to run, it has enough power for 95% of your rides, and it will take you everywhere the 1000 will, and you'll get there at the same time. Even 2 up with gear. If you're not very experienced, definitely the 650. If one day i trade bikes, the next one will have to be lighter... A strom 800 just under 200 kg, and 100hp would be a perfect bike. Hope this helps.

As someone who had bikes with very different size engines, power and characters.... Get liter bike, i dont see even one reason for smaller vee.... Ok there is one, abs was option only in 650 but thats it. Also dont get fooled, this isn't adventure bike, its purely road bike, if you plan going offroad get adventure bike like africa twin, ktm 950 adv etc. There is no single feature of adv bike here. It has road worthy suspension travel, ground clearance and completely unprotected chassis bottom, road wheels ... I mean... I really don't understand why so many people consider it adventure or dual sport bike, its absolutely not ans its fine! I bought vstrom1000 as purely road machine and couldn't be more happy. For adventures i have ktm 640 adv :)
@Angry-Lynx
@Angry-Lynx Год назад
As for why big vstrom? More power, fantastic sound, fantastic flexible engine with addictive torque from down low, you make all useful torque in lower rpms, so its generally low rpm engine which is perfect for its purpose and very verh pleasant to ride. Regarding fuel cons... If thats yo concern, dont buy bike, buy a prius, way more practical! 😁 We buy bikes for pleasure of riding, not to count money spent on fuel.
