I guess it never registered just how plain he was making his intentions here. “How about some coffee, or drinks, or dinner, or a movie…for as long as we both shall live…” He’s basically telling her he wants to marry her. Like another poster said, it’s the best way someone has ever said “I love you” without saying it. It’s brilliant. If you can look past how dated the Web 1.0 stuff is and this pre-9/11 NYC, it really might be the second or third best romantic comedy ever. I mean, the way Meg Ryan touches herself when Tom Hanks puts his hand on her shoulder-it’s so real, so lived in. The way she’s on the verge of tears without ever actually crying. She is the absolute best. And very few actors ever had this kind of chemistry.
My wife is gone for years every time I see the scene I get my hysterics it’s an excellent movie with an excellent ending and I just have a very hard time with it at the end but I keep watching it so I can remember my lid Linda
@@kkpenney444exeactly what I was going to say. She looked like a plastic surgeons practice dummy when she was done. Such a shame because she was naturally pretty.
@@kkpenney444 Oh shut up. First, Meg Ryan did 30 movies and 7 romantic comedies and then decided to do a movie where she was nude and had sex scenes. Her public freaked out over it and then shunned her for it. So she took a long break from acting and started directing. And, in case you aren't familiar with aging, it happens to all of us. And when you're in the public eye, or spotlot, you tend to feel like you need to look good all the time so plastic surgery is a norm for hollywood. And she did not ruin her face with plastic surgery. Friggen ditz.
@@BrendenLee-dg The millions of people who never went to her movies again would disagree. You're blind if you can't see the damage plastic surgery did to her face- and no, not every actress goes that drastic route, thank God. Now, you shut up.
Different countries have different rules. Note the arabic subtitles. I'm thinking that the rating board in this arabic country would give it an "adults only" rating because of kissing on screen, so they cut out the last kiss to allow kids and teenagers to watch it too.
One of top romantic movies I’ve ever watched. I would say these are top movies - Sleepless in Seattle , Sabrina ( 1995 ) , I’ve Got Mail and Pretty Woman . They’re golden yep 👍
I have watched "You Got Mail", "Sleepless in Seattle", and "When Harry Met Sally" more than 10 times each. WHMS alone more than 20x. While "Kate and Leopold" 4x. What is it with me and Meg Ryan anyway huh? Love those stories. Perhaps I wanted to feel the feelings the characters were having. Meg Ryan sure can talk a thousand words without speaking but just with her body language and facial expression.
If we accept we're to be us only , atleast in this lifetime. No point in splitting the time line and imagine something implausible..... the Universe always looks at the bigger picture and puts whomsoever exactly where they are supposed to be, giving them the opportunity to work on their past lives karma and grow where they are as much as possible, humanly 🎉
I totally agree with you. This film is a great creature of all times. And I never get bored watching it again and again for two reasons - one is to practice my English and second is when I feel romantic 😊 I also like watching these films : “The terminal”, “Curly Sue”, “Groundhog day”, “What about Bob?”, “Hone alone 1&2” and a lot more. It is a pity that we cannot watch them here in RU-vid.
This is like the second or third remake of this movie. And while I definitely enjoy watching this remake I think my favorite movie with this story is with Van Johnson I just looked it up there's four four movies in the good old summertime with Judy Garland,. The shop around the corner with Van Johnson, the shop around the corner with James Stewart, and then there's our beloved You've got Mail.
Once upon a time in history, two conqueror conquer Mexico and Peru for the love of captivity .........and a third one gave up all the gold for love of his life.....Don’t cry shop girl, love will find you, cause the other name of God is Love!!.
This movie, "When Harry met Sally" and Sleepless in Seattle are three of the funnest, not just funny, corniest movies that make me feel good. I've seen all three countless times and once I start watching either I have to finish. Meg is perfect as the "adorable but not over sexed" girl that every guy would love to come home to. Tom is an acting servant comedy or drama and Billy Crystal is one of the best "natural" dramedy actors ever. On a personal note, I wish Meg didn't do the facelift thing I think she was beautiful without it. (Of course what she care about my opinion....)
The original Lubitsch movie, Shop Around Corner is even better. Lubitsch was a great director of Romantic Comedy. Almost all his movies are great. Even the one he was a producer is fantastic: The Royal Scandal, which still has a lot of his touch in it. "He shot himself....he missed himself."
So - find "The Shop Around the Corner" (Jimmy Stewart), "She Loves Me" (Broadway revival with Zachary Levi), and "In the Good Old Summertime) (Judy Garland)
Pretty sad that she blew off him for some online freak. It worked out, luckily. If I were him, I would've been a little offended. Shows her character. I never would've showed.
I disagree. The last shot of the film should have been Meg Ryan, wearing a wedding ring, reading at a storytime at FOX Books with a large circle of children around her and Tom Hanks and the FOX family looking at her with pride. That would have been a winner. This would show that her mother still lived in the storytimes now at Fox Books, and the corporate book business now had a soul implanted there by Meg Ryan and her now closed children's bookstore..
I loved this movie when it came out. Then I saw Meg Ryan being interviewed on Parkinson/bbc where she came across as a nasty piece which totally changed my opinion of her or you you could say she is good at acting nice
I so wanted to hate this movie. Tom Hanks was on my worst actors list because of his annoying way of speaking It was years before I actually watched it. My admiration of Meg Ryan & the wonderfully written story won out in the end. It turned out to be a great movie.
