Hey dude, you are awesome, live your gig. I am a "newbie" (50 years on LOTW's) to the muskie game, great hack. I have already suffered this fate and perhaps set the world record for distance travelled overland on a free range bucktail launch.

This video proves your never too old to learn something new. 25 years of musky hunting and I've never heard of, or even considered, this. Great idea!

I never thought about, or had happen, line fray caused by the hook rubbing it during transport. My concern was always the rod blank being damaged by the hooks because I've noticed dings, chips, and scratches in the blank from hook wear. Breaking the line because of hook wear is one thing. Breaking the rod blank is a whole 'nother level of bad. This is a great tip, Lee. Thanks.

Great tip, bodies of water like Lane St Clair though I find it best and safest to just remove the bait and hook the snap onto the hook keeper. Last thing you want is a bait to bounce loose and have it swing around and hit someone

Great tip Lee! I’ve definitely had a few baits go sailing on me after a long motor. I’ve never thought about my own hooks getting me...

"Lets just say we're out on Lake St. Clair..." lol You cheese heads are lucky to have the musky lakes you have that are so damn calm, I gotta go through hell everytime I get out musky fishing, I was blessed with motion sickness. And the big ones always seem to be biting on the windier days, haha! Nice hack, may try that on my new pounder rod.

Good tip. Ill do this in the future. I usually hook my rear hooks on on top of my reel and the front hook on the front cork. Works too.

I'll have to check my new shock and awe for the hook hole. I used to use the tranx handle to hook onto.

Great tip , I actually have been doing this for a few years now, I have experienced the misery of watching my lure go sailing away after nicking my line after using the hook keeper on the rod
@donmiles9083

Good idea. And as an additional benefit, the hooks don't chip off the clear cote on the rod itself.

I wait till I get to my fishing spot before I put on my lure. Keep your boat free of any hooks or baits not in your tackle box you don’t want to trip and fall on one of them.

I always wandered what was causing that shit I've lost some high dollar baits I'll have my DeWalt out tmrw p.s. I'd love to have that white bulldog the bait store I go to sets on the musky capital of ky cave run lake and they ordered everything they could buy from them and still no solid white ones unless u want one that's 3 foot long I want a older style one that still has a hook threw it's back

Awesome idea, but with my luck I’d probably end up snapping my trigger off lol. And with a rod that cost me $200.00 I’m not about to risk it. Quick question tho; have you guys considered coming up to bommanville Ontario for the musky expo coming up ?
@maxpark81

Pretty good. The Surgical Strike is more designed for smaller baits.

I always take the lure off so I never have to worry about that. Don't think Id ever drill a hole in a 2 to 400 dollar rod. Warranty is instantly void doing that.
@denispoirier5442
@denispoirier5442 3 года назад
I've been doing this for over 20 years & the worst that can happen is the trigger will break off at the hole from being ruffed up in the downeasters ,then the rod is still good . All you do is round off the edges where it broke & you have a normal rod again . If you have enough room left on the trigger you can drill another hole .

I've also been doing this for over 20 years . I also see morons putting their hooks in the line guides & damaging the ceramic guides as well as their line . A good way to damage your reel handles , is to hang the lure hook on the handle as I've seen some of the " pros " doing . These "pros " are so good ,they need to have a guide to show them how & where to fish .

I like to have multiple rods rigged , & try not to waste my time on the water .
@riverbanksurgeons9772

Personally I don’t recommend doing this! I have one Musky rod that already had a factory hole drilled into the trigger, and now it’s a “broken trigger” 😡 the structural integrity gets comprised. Less material, less strength. Accidentally dropped the rod and the trigger broke off. I’ve never had this happen with a “no hole” trigger. My 2 cents.
@MadisonAngling

Been doing it for 10 years now (over 5 years of which having my stuff beat up badly guiding) and never had one fail. Awesome way to prevent line wear!
@riverbanksurgeons9772

We all have different experiences, but after 35 years of fishing the only trigger I’ve ever had break...is the one with a hole drilled in it!
@onemuskynut
@onemuskynut 4 года назад
Yea I love having the holes in the trigger for my baits Heck the bass pro Pete Maina rods did this over 15 years ago. And as a guide my clients have beat up my stuff and never have I ever broken of a trigger
@denispoirier5442
@denispoirier5442 3 года назад
Even if the trigger is broken ,you can still use the rod , it won't affect structural integrity .
