Also for files would be nice if I could go to a file and select which app to open the app in - right now I need to go to the app first which is contrary to how every desktop works
Great video. I as well use apple notes for everything. I’m excited for this update. One thing I’m hoping for is that you can write with your pencil and type in the same area.
its really great to see that apple updates has improved i also really need scientific calculator that i will use for my study when solving math problem
Don’t forget about game mode, First I thought that feature looks useless but it really work. My IPad Air4 can get smoother experience and not overheating while gaming anymore 😊
I’m a major Notes user so I’m really lookig forward to using that and seeing how I can implement it into my workflow. However, it all looks good to me, especially Apple Intelligence. And I’m even a ESR customer with a wireless charging case for my iPhone 15+, two wireless chargers, and the 360 wireless keyboard case for my M2 iPad Pro. They really do have a pretty solid lineup of products.
8:17 I’m loving the new photos app I’m AiOS 18. So much more flexible and customizable. I hope Apple improve face detection, duplicates and similar images. Beta1 is worst at finding duplicates.
I've got 18 beta 2 installed on my Mini 6. It's stable enough that I'll probably install the public beta on my Air 5. Smart Script works in that it does correct my very wonky handwriting, but the result is only slightly less wonky. Scribbling text to delete it doesn't seem to work all the time, and pressing, holding, and dragging doesn't open up space. I expect those features need a minimum M1 chip. The calculator is OK and looks good on the Mini 6 and is very usable. The Files app is one of the many things that stops the iPad being a pro device. As are the lack of font choice and font colours in Notes. Also, the lack of a clipboard manager is just embarrassing. I'll stop there as these points have been made over and over, and Apple just seems to ignore our pleas. The old argument that they don't want to lose contributors of third-party software don't hold water as they all already have a lot of competition and yet they seem to survive quite well. And only Apple can give us a clipboard manager and a proper Files app due to iPadOS's compartmentalisation. One last thought on the Notes app. Collapsing headlines is all well and good, but having to collapse or uncollapse every single one is a pain when you get more than ten or so. I'm guessing that it's a trivial problem to add the ability to collapse and uncollapse all of them in one go, and to collapse all but the one with the text cursor.
I think the AI is quite clever, least it’s not gimmicky like Alexa. I think Alexa is more of a social thing, the older people seem to like it, whereas Apple is trying to create what I would consider a more usable platform. An integrated AI for our everyday technology usage.😊
Did your iPad crashed while being on ios18?? Mine got crashed and rebooted twice today and I’m really concerned if it’s software issue or hardware issue
I'll be glad to have a calculator app on my iPad but the ability to format SSDs and USB-C EXTERNAL hard drives is going to help me with my LaCie drive I got for Christmas last year It's showing me that the creation and modification date of December 31 1969 at 7pm It CAN'T ALREADY HAVE A BAD SECTOR
Maybe iPadOS 20 or 21 may bring something exciting, but 18 seems already old or overdue ‘news’. I bought a beast of an iPad and the OS can’t keep up. That’s what’s going on.
The issue with the iPadOS 18 Public Beta calculator is that it has way too many numerical error issues due to how it stores numbers and many of them are due to naive programming. Given the things I have tested and found error with, I would never use this as a serious scientific or engineering calculator. I really think what Apple has done with photos is split between good things and bad leaning more toward bad overall. Navigating photos is horrendous, slamming favorites into categories and showing them as slides is not workflow helpful. Typing in information about a picture no longer gets copied over into shared folders as an image comment. You have to enter it when saving and there isnt a way tomhave multiple lines because it slams all of it together as a single line not even inserting blank spaces. I’d say that Photos is terrible now. I’d put it into my Beta notes as Photos … WTF,Apple!
Most of these aren't iPadOS exclusively, they're iPhone iOS features that Apple brings over to the iPad mobile OS. As usual, the iPad is a second thought for Apple.
I hope i can disable Apple intelligence entirely. And also the whole "it mimics your handwriting and corrects it" makes me icky. Are handwritings the next thing thing they want to steal, after images, texts and videos?
With the exception of the calculator app which already had free alternatives in the appstore - there are no meaningful upgrades with the exception of being now able to format sd cards within the files app. No improvements to stage manager which remain a disgusting mess of failed multitasking. Fils remains the same crappy shit that has always been. Pages remains the same laughable “alternative” to Word. And so on. The AI upgrades are a laughable gimmick and we don’t even know if Apple will make them available to EU, but who cares really. This is not a huge update. It’s not even on par with the nice stuff iphones got in 2023. This is a meaningless update and a sign that iPad is not the future of tablets for professionals - Surface is.
That screen mirroring is going to open up more problems especially when dealing with the elderly. Most elderly people are not tech savvy so if anything goes wrong with their iPad they will blame it on the person that was mirroring and controlling their iPad.
