Yes and no. There is definitely a place for high quality products. Are there less expensive ways to do things, yes. I have my recover boards attached to my prinsu rack with carriage bolts, washers and wing nuts. Does it work, yes. Do I hate taking all 4 wing nuts off to access the recovery boards, yup. Every damn time. If you can afford the finer things that pay 400 to avoid the aggravation of wing nuts. I’m not there yet, but definitely getting closer. 😂😂
I’ve repurposed an old backpack that was gonna be on its way to goodwill. It’s a bit smaller but I put 2 trash bags inside one for food and wipes and one for recyclables. Has held up for 3 years so far.
while I can appreciate some of the innovation.. most of this is just more expensive complicated stuff to break while bouncing around in the bed of my truck.. simple and functional are rules that will save you on the trail. it is camping afterall... rough it a bit.
Stupid perspective. Why take your truck camping? Why not strap your camping sticks and rocks to your back and walk to the wilderness like our ancestors. Too much work? Everybody has their own comfort levels, interests, way of doing things. Why would someone put their two cents in with how they do things? You do you. Whenever ANYTIME one thinks there's a right or wrong way to pretty much do anything you've lost
I can’t get over the fact someone pays 295 for a tire trash bag.. I got one from Amazon for 40 bucks it’s held up just fine longer then the 1 season that apparently the others last
295!...40!...for a trash bag..!!! Are you kidding me..!..recycle a trash can from your home or shop or whatever ...free and less plastic or materials ...or make your own out of plywood for crying out loud..!!
He nearly fell over when that guy said $295 for that bag. I did too 😂😂 some of the pricing is ridiculous. $55.00 for a paper towel holder, good luck with that 😂😂
@@jslayofficial Agreed. There are a lot of people out there with very expensive machines that are into this craze and manufacturers are cashing in. I am not one of those people, I dont have endless amounts of cash to spend on this stuff. I don’t even like a lot of this fancy stuff. Overlanding and camping should be a little difficult for me, I dont like to make it too easy, lol.
They all base their over priced gear to be "better Quality more durable" Right...i have alot of inexpensive gear that may not be a big brand name but is still going strong.
awesome video, guys. I need that paper towel rack! Thank you for giving me and my partner a platform to share our story with your followers. Happy trails!
@@CorbinN6 For real. You can get a pump hook up for those $20 blue 10 gallon water jugs at walmart now. There super cheap and you'll come out less than just the dometic water jug by like $50. lol
Lets do some math!!! Which is the better deal? Trail Bag #1 that lasts 5 seasons, but costs $295. Trail Bag #2 that costs $45, but only lasts "one season". The cost of 5 seasons of Trail Bag #2 is 5 x $45 or $225. So, even if we could get 6 seasons out of Trail Bag #1, it's still cheaper to buy the Trail Bag #2. You don't get the color insert, but hell, put a sticker on it and call it good.
I bought an Amazon Trail /Trash Bag for $35. Still going strong, very durable. I actually use it for firewood on the OverSand Vehicle Beach. The word Overland inflates prices just like when someone says Wedding....
Thanks for the quality video, but most of this just seems like expensive stuff to show off. I can do the same thing with a third of the cost and very little effort on a lot of this stuff.
Yes and no. I have tried for years to do Overlanding on the cheap thinking the same thing you do. There are some things that you can save money on and some things that you have to pay the price once or pay a cheaper price 3,4,5 times. Take my refrigerator for instance. It’s an amazing Iceco 65L fridge that cost me about 400. At the time it made more sense than paying 1000 for a same size dometic. After a years worth of trips the fridge is starting to have issues. Now I’m going to buy a dometic for 1000. I could have saved 400 by paying the 1000 initially. Now don’t get me wrong. You don’t have to buy the most expensive Icon Suspension when the Ironman 4x4 is such a good value. I’d rather pay double for an item that lasts 3 times longer.
@@fongvang935 wait what? Idk about you.. but I use my fridge every single day. From driving to work, to taking milk or drinks or snacks like fruit on trips for my son to have. When I go fishing I have my fridge full of stuff or me and the guys to drink and eat. Fuck I even carry my Coleman stove for when we do catch and feel like cooking the fish. Just because you spend most of your time in doors lazing about doesn’t mean everyone else does. I work in the oilfield so I’m not home often.. so don’t try to bullshit and say that your ass is too busy..
Yea that Dometic kit is awesome. Owen was telling me off camera that they have a lot more planned for that lineup. I’m trying to get my hands on the water system to test out.
used the shower pouch on last trip and this thing is awesome! So much better than anything we have used and I used the cucumber scent one and was very impressed
I am a truck driver & camper. I don't even do OTR. Buy In have some days where I deliver multiple stops in the heat. I'm going to throw some of these in my bag for those 14hr days.
Not sure if it’s just me, but I feel that most of these guys just lack enthusiasm to even explain their product.. with exception to the shower towel guy who did a great job
Why is it not a standard question to ask where the product is manufactured? I noticed you did it on some but on others you didn’t ask them. Was it because the ones made outside of the USA you did not want to embarrass them? Thanks for the product reviews and the video it was very helpful. Great luck to you in the future.
That is a legitimate question and the answer is, I don’t really have a standard questions outside of the price point and where they can be found. I really just ask questions that I think of at the time. If that is important though I will do my best to remember to ask. Thanks for the feedback!!
Yes, it’s very important to me where it’s made. I prefer to buy American but I would like to know if it’s made in China or Vietnam or Thailand so I can make an informed decision. Thank you so much for your reviews, they’re very helpful in determining what will go on the next trip with me.
Something for everyone. I’m actually getting the paper towel holder for Christmas from my wife! It will be the last paper towel holder I ever buy. I get it though.
I’ll tell you this! When in Iraq as a Marine, we used the mess out of baby wipes! All I asked for while there was baby wipes and socks. The heat and our crappy combat boots wore socks out faster than anything I’ve ever seen. I went through 2 pairs of boots while I was there, ended up with so many socks that I would wear them and throw them away if we stayed out the wire for longer than 5 days. Longest damn camping trip I’ve ever been on. We had 2 Marines that had hygiene problems. We pretty much hazed them in to showering. Oh and we came back to the states we didn’t get to change until we got back to our barracks, so flying from Kuwait all the way back to cherry point we all had the same socks on during that time, when we got to Pennsylvania we had to exit the plane and tsa made us take our boots off so they could make sure we didn’t have anything we weren’t supposed to!! We said are you sure you want all of us to take our boots off?! Lmao “well y’all better break out the Lysol because it’s bout to get bad up in this mfer”
High quality equals high cost! I have seen a bunch of inexpensive gear at the expos but most of it is not quality. I can’t recommend stuff that doesn’t hold up.
You're making the suggestion to the wrong people, he doesn't make the pricing for Roam... Wait for a sale, I got my 95L over $100 off regular price. Pelican cases are equally priced and don't offer some of the same shapes/designs.
Like Mike from Showerpouch said I need that Paper Towel rack! Just placed an order for the paper towel rack to add to my DIY Overland trailer! Thanks for showcasing Expedition Essentials and Showerpouch!
If you contact them from their website directly you can preorder the mount. They are still gauging interest before they advertise. I just preordered mine. Thanks for the coverage AB 🤙🏼
Paper towel deal, heck yeah! But that remote faucet by Dometic...dang!!! China will have knock offs on Amazon next week but I'm waiting til spring. Now make it for SHOWERS!
I know I'm not the target audience but everything besides the bamboo table and shower wipes looks like an over engineered and expensive way to store things. Al, of those brackets that hold things and boxes can be replaced by a bougie cord or strap.
I've been using Shower Pouch for a few years now. I carry extra to give away and tell people how great the company is. If you aren't using Shower Pouch...well, you just stink. 🙂
I’m pretty sure that they use some parts from China, Sweden and Australia and assembled in the US, but don’t quote me on that. Totally going off a conversation I had with a rep from a couple years ago.
Really excited about the dometic faucet and water jug, love the design of both and shocked at the price. Do you know if they’re considering making a larger version of that same water jug?
Reached out to Dometic as we are interested in the storage box and their response was " you're not seeing it online then it has yet to be released and we do not know any kind of date."
Everything seems super cool! I wish it wasn't so expensive. But I'm sure that comes with the best quality. Overlanding can get real expensive, but not as expensive as going to Disney. Plus no lines or bad food, for the most part! Great video, btw! Keep 'em coming!
@@HarryKuloh Agree 100%! What about the magnetic paper towel holder? You can get one from Harbor Freight for a fraction of the cost! Same thing with the shower thingy. Check out Venture Wipes. The Dometic and Roam stuff seemed okay. Still expensive, but might be doable.
Haha you are exactly right. Way cheaper and no lines. I have tried for years to go Overlanding on the cheap and there are just some things that you are better off paying for once than buying crap 4 or 5 times. In my older age quality is becoming more important so I don’t have to worry about holding up the entire trip just to save $40 on something.
I use washable towels instead of paper towels, or just my jeans. Also, use those towels with a good tea tree shampoo heated by jet boil water, and you have those shower wipes.
That might be tricky for sure. Maybe look at a hard shell roof top tent with a high rated rack. Check out the Tank Roof Top Tent from Desert Armor. It might be able to hold it. Good luck.
Lord bunch of non necessary cos-play items, best thing was the shower pouch. Prices aren’t only just high they are just plain dumb. Marketing and PowerPoint people are winning this shit.
Overlanders need the best gear. They spend so much time stuck in the mountains they better be prepared to stay. Their rigs are always over weight and usually top heavy. I see it near me all the time, luckily there’s enough good ol boys in real 4wd rigs around to yank them out or the hills would be littered with remains of Toyotas with $100 trash bags on their spare.
Great video lots of cool stuff really like the water dispenser and Bamboo table. They would be perfect to set outside and not have to worry about it getting wet and breaking down.
Bummed you missed us! We will be at SEMA 2021 at the Ford Booth in the Central Hall. Our PullKitchen will be in the new Ford Tremor display by Blood Type Racing. Check us out!
It is definitely in Flagstaff every year. Check out the Overland Expo website for dates. They also have one in Colorado, the East coast and new for 2022 Pacific Northwest. However, flagstaff is the biggest and I would say the best venue.
Spare tire trash bags kinda crack me up. Just restitch a 600D nylon duffle or pay a tailor to do it (pretty cheap, depending on where you live.) Line it with a properly sized garbage sack if you want extra odor protection, problem solved.
Need some guidance on JK roof rack that was on the Roam box display. I am looking for just the bars that go from side to side. Love the idea of those long roam boxes. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you so much. Good audio is by far the hardest thing to get worked out. It was our first year using the mic and I think it worked pretty well once I got the hang of where to place it. Thanks again.
Yea it is well worth the wait. They just got started on the production version of the water jug. I saw Owen at SEMA and he said they are working really hard to get everything in production to get it out there.
I've often wondered why interviewers don't just carry two microphones. Give one to the subject with a quick instruction on how to hold it, and then have at it. Moving the mic back and forth is ridiculous, and the sound goes in and out.
@@anthonymurphy2540 I commend you for your path. And I completely understand. I started my overland journey in the exact same boat. I just got tired of Kit I needed to work and it not work. I took the stance of saving a little more to not waste on inferior gear. Thank you for what you do!
