Any who read my stories please don't hesitate to comment, state your "professional" opinion of my story or just say weather you like it or not. To all those who support me both here and at home thank you and i am proud to announce that someone has accepted my invitation to illustrate one of my stories, specifically the story on MixHound's 20th chillstep mix. They have a deviant art page (illiarovanna.deviantart.com/) you should check them out they are a talented artist, again thanks for the support everyone. Now without further to do, my story. Humanity always fascinated me, such a confusing race, most of them never do anything significant, but just one act from a single being can reflect down and change something later. I never could understand many of the feelings humans have toward each other, love, hate, guilt, care, responsibility, these feelings can make them shine brighter than the brightest star, and be darker then the void itself. They are a primitive race compared to the many i have seen, met and destroyed, but they have this certain alluring presence about them i can not explain what it is, i have spent over 1.5 million years studying them, and just when i think i have figured them out they change and i am once again confused. Walking across the open plains down a disused road i could see a single light in the distance off to my right. I walked towards it for hours and when i arrived what was before me was a single house built probably in the late 1800s. I walked up to the door and just as i was about to knock the door opened. "Hello." Said a man in his late eighties he had what seemed to be a perpetual smile on his face. I stood there in surprise for a few seconds before the old man broke the silence "I saw you walking up the road, i set a place on thee dinner table for you if you are interested." I took a few seconds to process the surprise then i shook it off, i pulled back my robes hood "I would be honored." The man gestured to the inside of the house and i entered the home was cozy the air smelled of roast beef and potatoes, the walls were covered in canvas painting's, hundreds of portraits of people covered the walls black, white, colored, men and women both, African Americans, Mexicans, and dozens of other cultures and races "Were did you get all these paintings if you don,t mind me asking" I asked curious. The old mans smile seemed to get bigger "Why i painted them myself in my younger years i traveled a lot so i could paint, i still do, but i am a lot less mobile then i used to be." The old man leaned on a cane i had not noticed before and chuckled. "Come on the roast just finished, come join me, you do like roast beef right?" I barked out a quick laugh "Of course i do, and is that potatoes i smell." "Right you are lad!" Said the old man as he led me to the dining room, when we arrived there was a simple round table in the center with with two seats one presumably for me. One of the chairs seemed a lot more cushioned than the other i was about to take the non-cushioned one when the old man interjected "No, that's my seat you can have Darlene's' chair." "Are you sure?" I said not wanting to be impolite. "Yes of course i am used to this chair anyway." The old man sat down and i sat in the other chair, the chair was terribly comfy i almost dozed off when i closed my eye's slowly. I suddenly I snapped out of it when the old man said unexpectedly "Y=Would you say grace please, umm, you know i don't think i ever caught your name." "Gaius, i said out of habit." I almost did a double take, but the man said something strange. "Gaius just like the real name of The Dark Centurion who supposedly had the power of the gods at his finger tips, and the hearts of the people, but lost it because he refused to obey the emperors orders to execute a barbarian child who had tried to kill him?" How did this old man know about that? I thought all record of me had been destroyed, when i refused to kill that child and saved the child instead, I guess it doesn't matter. The statement brought back some old memories that i had nearly forgotten, i raised that child who i had been ordered, i watched him grow to be a strong and kind man, and i saw him grow old and die before my eye's i can still see his chest fall down in a final breath as he was holding my hand. In that moment i felt more human then i had ever been, i felt the tears begin to flow down my cheeks. "Are you alright?" Said the old man concerned. "Yes, just remembering old times. Anyway now that that is out of the way i am supposed to say grace right?" I grabbed the old mans hands and said the traditional catholic grace and as we ate the old man told me his name was Sam, and then old man began to barrage me with questions about myself most i did not answer leaving him puzzled. Finally i got up the courage to ask a question that had been in the back of my mind for a while "Sam do you live alone?" This caused the man to pause and i could tell he as deep in thought "Yes i do Darlene died twenty years ago, cancer, but i take solace in my art and my faith. Speaking of art since we seem to be done eating would you mind if i painted a portrait of you?" The question left me aghast "Yes of course, when shall we start?" "Right now just let me go get my paints and a fresh canvas." Said the old man ecstatic he hobbled down the hall quite quickly for a man of his age. He came back after a few minutes with a painters palate, and easel and a large amount of different kinds of paint. "Alright lets get started." I stood relatively still for about three hours and when the old man was done he cried out in victory. "My finest work yet!" Said the old man. I stood up out of the chair and i looked at the painting, the old man painted thee details of my face perfectly. "Now i will hang your portrait on the wall and i will remember you." This old was one of the kindest souls i had ever met, willing to let a complete stranger in his home and feed him and the paint them a portrait so he will remember. I left with a smile on my face, i never saw that man again, but will never forget him, his massive unending smile that light the fires in my soul that had gone out. How long he lived after our meeting i do not know, but hundreds of years later i walked into a museum and the manager of the art sections looked toward me and his eyes went wide. Finally he manged to say something intelligible in all of the stuttering that led afterword "You are him, the guy in the painting." I had all but forgotten the painting at the time, but when the bartender pointed the wall behind him and it was the same portrait and it looked the same as the day it was made and below it was a plaque. it read "The last man to have been painted the famed artist Samuel J. Renning, no one knows his name for it was never listed in his professional works, all that was written on the back of this painting was "Here is a man who as lived through time and space and seen us change, i hope he will be proud of who we become in thee far off future." I could feel the tears begin to roll freely down my face and i began to sob, because this one man had changed me in ways he couldn't even understand and still he saw me as a man of virtue and kindness. Who i was then is not who i am now, but i hope i will become as great as this one man thought i was. Made this one nice and long for me failing to write a story for the previous mix.
